We know next to nothing about this band, other than they're from Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. You might even have guessed that from the distorted thumb pianos which are highly redolent of Kinshasa's most famous recent export, Konono No.1 - but Mbongwana Star (Mbongwana means "change", apparently) are a very different proposition. There's some very strange dubwise production, courtesy of Parisian and sometime Tony Allen collaborator Doctor L, some eerie postpunk-sounding guitar work, and an altogether unique vibe. They're coming to Europe in April and May and there'll be an album on World Circuit around then too. We will be paying close attention.

Nina Las Vegas is a groundbreaking Sydney DJ responsible for triple j radio’s long-running “House Party”, the current host of “Mix Up Exclusives” and her own ecstatic, innovative “NLV Presents” tours. Her keen ear has kept her at the forefront of the Australian dance music scene helping to foster and break emerging talent. Swick is Melbourne’s own well-shaken can of bubbly fizzy drink whose body-moving bonafides include oiling up J-Lo’s “Booty” with Diplo and a deeeeeep discography of experimental club bangers. These two OZ OGs have combined forces for Cool Sports, a hyperactive five-track EP of laser jams, tweaked pop, FIFA club, and assorted power-ups that will leave you sweaty, smiling, and fiending for more.

NLV Records drops another free download - this time one of Nina's own productions - “Contagious’’ featuring Mad Decent’s Snappy Jit; a bass heavy, tribal track that is certainly as infectious as it’s title would have us believe.

From the very first spin, ‘Contagious’ is a straight up booty-dropping classic – Nina’s latest flex seamlessly blends a pulsating, killer bass hook with pitched-up, steaming vocals - augmenting classic genre rhythms to create a dancehall inspired, club-ready cut. The relentlessly pulsating kick drum and energetic claps act as a bombastic underpinning for Snappy Jit’s sizzling refrain and even during the breakdown, the ethereal synths leave the listener hungry for the tune to drop once again. The undulating energy and drums throughout ensure that Nina manages to maintain momentum until the very last beat and proves her capabilities as a champion innovator of ground-breaking, new, electronic dance music.
