7. Dub Head - Meatballs & Chilli Pepper [Sofa Sound Bristol]

Introducing some fresh talent to the CIA catalogue, we welcome Kublai for his first release on the label – the eclectic ‘Free Flow EP’. 
True to his city, the Manchester based producer draw inspirations from a diverse palette and his EP is a testament to this, showcasing his sound via four tracks representing four different styes. 
After pushing things forward during lockdown with releases on Goldfat and Vandal (alongside fellow CIA artist Minor Forms), the ‘Free Flow EP’ marks the next development for Kublai; which, with the guidance and encouragement of Total Science, has led him to explore new avenues in DnB. 
“Initially I didn't plan this as an EP, but after writing a lot of liquid, I wanted to try my hand at some heavier sounds... I've just always wanted to make music that I love to hear, that's got soul; whether it be the heavier side of things or the more liquid side of things.” 
Setting things off is ‘Free Flow’ as Kublai experiments with different types of percussion, atop of uplifting pads and vocals. A driving bassline carries throughout, leading neatly into ‘Emerald Funk’, where some tech funk influences come into play on a darker stepper that’s seeping with groove. 
Switching the vibe again, even to his own surprise, ‘Revelation’ sees Kublai impressively exploring on a jungle tip for the first time, with rolling breaks, vocal cuts and switching bass, before completing the EP with the piano strewn, sultry sounds of ‘Young Soul’ – a full circle back to his soulful roots.

The Legion Of Doom. The Bushwackers. The Rockers. The Hart Foundation. There have been many great duos bulldozing their way to fame in the ring before – and now Kublai and Minor Forms are intent on doing it on the Drum & Bass canvas too. 

Seemingly sitting on a never ending stock of quality music, this pair of prolific young producers link up once again on CIA, but this time for a slew of collaborative tracks, on the Future Motion EP. Slowly but surely crafting their own niche in a saturated scene, the pair are able to meld depth, musicality and bassweight in a prodigious style that’s seeing them build an impressive discography. 

Comprised of four quality cuts, the Future Motion EP shows the pairs ability to turn their hand to a range of sounds and styles. From deep rollers, stepped out modern jungle and drum break workouts, Kublai and Minor Forms once again prove that they are becoming a force to be reckoned with on their latest CIA outing.

Quadrant & Iris are finally back on CIA, with Seattle’s deadliest Drum & Bass duo returning to the fold for yet another master class in future funk. 
Their last foray on the label was actually already six years ago, and with only a handful of weighty and laser precise contributions to the scene in the interim, their return is both overdue and welcome in equal measure. 
A Quadrant & Iris release promises a heady mix of top-drawer production expertly interlaced with melancholy and depth. Their new ‘Double Path EP’ almost seems to reference this, each of the four compositions a twisted journey. 

‘Accurate’ is as it states, straight to the point and the most stripped of the four. ‘Double Path’ pairs scatter gun breaks with an acidic bass before dropping into deeper territory, whilst ‘Ambergris’ is almost like a deep dive into early 2000’s liquid, with ‘Sonder’ tidily wrapping up the package, 
The EP feels like a succinct melding of both artists dance music influences, with a range of bases touched upon, a nod to what inspires them. This is production mastery at it’s finest, so jump right into Quadrant & Iris’ Double Path world.

A massive reconstruction of the original 2012 weapon. The VIP hits harder, cleaner and colder — upgraded drums, wider mid-range, and a rolling drive that feels like a cyber-punk riot unfolding in real time. The classic hook is still there, but now transformed into something far more brutal and intelligent.
A perfect “statement track” for EMOSHIN’s return.
