Hailing from Saint Petersberg (Russia), the extremely talented Jiminy Hop made his initial appearance on our imprint in early 2021 with his single - "Tension" and soon afterwards followed it up with a milestone 3-tracker EP featuring "Summered", "Contemplation" and "Desire", an ode to the the melody-rich side of progressive house with it's bright tones and ethereal emotions. After garnering wide-spread support, we're thrilled to present our 54th release that features new remixes of the EP by label returnees - Eric Lune, Dimuth K and Anton MAKe.

Returning to the imprint after his debut EP and contribution to our 'Tales of Time' series in 2019 is Melbourne (Australia) based artist - Eric Lune. Ever since, he's been consistently putting out incredible music, most notably on Madloch's 'Sound Avenue' + '3rd Avenue', Guy Mantzur's 'Plattenbank' and the US Goliath 'Proton Music'. Revisiting Jiminy Hop's title track - "Summered", Eric Lune channeled his inner sun-kissed memories and elevated the track into a whole new dimension by bringing in as many euphoric feelings, highlighted by a 90's inspired lead and guitar riff.

Following his immense ‘West On Mars’ EP on Bedrock last autumn, Guy J returns to his own Lost & Found imprint with two absolutely stunning pieces of journeyman techno. Inspired by the classic trance sounds that he grew up to, Guy J has dug super-deep and returned with something super-special. Musical, emotional, hypnotic: both tracks will take you to places you’ve not explored in years.

‘Aurore’ hits with chunky drum arrangement that’s reminiscent of Deep Dish at the height of their powers; deep, driving and wide enough to carry the weight of the pristine synths, humanised rhythmic textures and melodic weaves, this keeps building until the very end of its epic tenure. Beautiful.

‘Airborne’, meanwhile, is the full trip: almost 10 minutes of locked-in beauty as we glide further and further into a state of unblinkered positivity. Building us up with precision tension, Guy doesn’t even introduce the life-affirming riff until 4.30 but by jove you know about it when he does. Immaculate elevation that seems to come from nowhere; timeless emotionally rich techno like this is universal. Reach for the skies…

Roger Martinez's Higher States imprint continues a strong start to their journey by welcoming GMJ to the label for his debut EP. Based in Melbourne, Australia GMJ aka Gavin Martin has been a primary figure in the progressive house scene for over a decade. His passion for deep and emotive electronic music has seen him land releases on the industry's most esteemed imprints. From Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music to Cid Inc’s Replug Records and UK behemoth Anjunadeep, it's GMJ's storytelling style that continues to surprise and inspire even the genre's most discerning fans. Now following an EP for US conglomerate Proton Music, GMJ debuts on Higher States with the much anticipated 'Enter Universe' artist showcase.

Spread across three tracks it's the warm, redolent grooves of the title selection which gets the release underway. The seven minute journey effortlessly melds organic percussion, arcane atmospheres and hazy harmonic concepts, for what results in a travelogue of mystical audio. Delicate yet powerful it perfectly sets the stage for the peak time flavoured 'Multiverse'. It's astral designs and percussion cadence prove instantly compelling, while a foundation of pulsating beats and electric rhythms continues to drive momentum forward. A cascading motif sits at the spiritual core of the piece, evocative and fluid, gently elevating mood with each successive pass, until elegantly peaking during a poignant final act. Rounding out the collection is the mid tempo 'Niloquai'. Highly creative, it's blend of clustered vocal fragments, spatial arps and textural drifts makes for an enticing storyboard, all playing out over waves of contoured bass and striking tonal design. Following two tracks on the label compilation “Variables,” Iranian-born, Berlin-raised DJ and producer Nyma returns to Items & Things with Kybernetik, his debut solo release for the label, released here as a digital exclusive. A mainstay on Berlinʼs club scene and perennial figure in the Items & Things camp, Nyma hones his craft with Kybernetik, its slow burning disco groove and relentless funk guaranteed to function as adequately in a warm up set as at peak time; its contagious rhythms as appropriate for that early morning injection of energy or for the creation of that late night disco explosion.
 
Fusing organic instrumentation with machine, the driving rhythms, slap-bass hits, and infectious guitar riffs of the original are drawn out on the EPʼs flip side, with the dub version bringing the bass even further into the forefront of the mix: breathing additional groove into the track whilst nevertheless maintaining the dynamic intensity of the original. 

Remix duties come from label boss Marc Houle, who in true Items & Things fashion strips Nymaʼs original down to its bare bones, sprinkles it with his unique blend of experimental techno, and turns the bass up to eleven. What results is a mix as eerie as it is groove driven: its building lead lines, stuttering 909 hats, and synth eccentricities a flawless expansion on the funk of the original.
