Moments before Mario is killed and Tosca commits suicide, Puccini’s lovers merge their identities in a mighty cry of victory: “Together in exile, our love will soar through the world…our love will spread song and color through the world! Our triumphant souls tremble with hope, in mounting heavenly heat. Our souls fly together toward the ecstasy of love. I’ll close your eyes with a thousand kisses. I’ll whisper in your ear the thousand names of love.”
