Just a small excerpt of the approach:
The thematic leitmotif was to be the element "water", which was conceptually divided into the workingThe concept was divided into the thematic areas of "SENSE and Silence", "Infinity" and the mighty "Power of Water".For all created or composed parts, I attached great importance to my own sound development (e.g. through my own recordings mainly of water sounds, key - pitches - tone lengths - frequencies - LFO rates - resonance - attack - decay - filter settings), which were worked out with a great deal of commitment, partly discarded or changed again.and were partly discarded or reconstructed. The pieces reflect the claim of a "breathing, surreal minimalism". In some cases, different versions were created from one piece, with the final decision being made in favour of the thematically "most appropriate piece". Theapproach and realisation corresponds to a single theme, namely climate change in relation to the theme of water, and aims to represent thethe problem as well as to give hope. I chose the titles in connection with the respective musical topic by researchingvia scientific journals, Wikipedia as well as the Logia source QCover and videos:The rather surreal water album cover was made in late summer 2021 at a fountain in Cologne, with my camera Canon EOS M50 with the Canon Zoom55-250mm. I filmed the videos in slow motion in the dark with ice and water in a glass. The light source was a torch and a candle.candle and filmed with the Canon macro 28mm. I set great store by "surreality" in order to allow openness during the viewing and to pick up the mood of the music pieces. the mood of the music. The photos and videos were all kept in black and white and post-processed to better represent the surrealism.to be able to present the surrealism better.

What’s better than a mix from electronic music royalty Cio D’Or? Two mixes. This week we present something very special, a tale told across two chapters. As a mainstay of techno for over two decades, Cio D'Or has consistently pushed boundaries, gracing the decks of revered institutions worldwide and crafting a legendary discography with releases on Prologue, Semantica, Hypnus, Time to Express and more. 

Across both mixes you will hear Cio’s unparalleled ability for sculpting minimalism and sonic architecture, masterfully recontextualizing familiar and obscure tracks alike, breathing new life into them and unveiling hidden dimensions. She dissects, reassembles and creates intricate connections between disparate sounds, all flawlessly executed with an alchemist’s touch.

Prisma 33 starts at a slower tempo, delicately building into an eruption of psychedelic minimalism. Dada grows with kinetic energy, with Cio sculpting sounds and textures into a deep trip where time seems to bend and dissolve, finishing with an unexpected wildcard that only a master selector could make work.

Cio D’Or hardly requires an introduction, having long stood as both a pillar of our scene and a source of inspiration for so many. Over the course of her singular and decades-spanning career, the Cologne-based artist has cultivated a universe of sound entirely her own, immediately recognizable yet endlessly evolving much like the work of her contemporaries and collaborators Mike Parker and Donato Dozzy. To experience Cio’s music is to follow a throughline that traces the complex history of contemporary techno in a single gesture, compelled by the vast unknown and the primordial familiar in equal measure. Recalling the blurred realism of Richter’s photo-paintings or the timeless intricacy of Bach’s fugues, Cio’s self-contained sonic world delicately reframes our own precious lifecycle, a reflection revealed through its elegant and subtractive minimalism.

In collaboration with our friends at Mostra, I’m honored to share a selection from Cio D’Or’s set performed at this year’s edition of the Barcelona-based festival, a sublime triumph from a scholar of sound.

777 years o 16 min o la iteratividad hipnótica de olvidar el tiempo.
Cambios lentamente desplegados, capitulados, sin grandes rupturas. Cinética que no sintéticamente, la pieza “777años” de Cio D’Or se mueve de manera (in)consciente hacia la producción de un nuevo tiempo. Un tiempo intemporal, elástico, ucrónico que elude gramáticas musicales, inmiscuyéndose en las fronteras del techno, el ambient o el dub para escuchar su propia escucha.

Cio D’Or

Cio D’Or (Cio Dorbandt) es una figura clave del techno alemán. Nacida en Hannover, pasó parte
de su juventud en el Berlín de los 80s formándose y trabajando como bailarina. Residente en el club Ultraschall de Munich desde 2001, adquirió reconocimiento internacional a finales de los 2000s desde las cabinas del Berghain, el Tresor, o el ://about blank​.
Con años de experiencia como dj, el trabajo de estudio llegó un poco más tarde, aunque su sonido se ha convertido en ineludible para tratar de hilvanar la fragmentaria genealogía del minimal y deep techno, junto con artistas más habituales como Mike Parker o Donato Dozzy, con quienes colabora asiduamente. Ha publicado álbumes y EPs para sellos como Prologue, Telrae, Hypnus, Time to Express o el madrileño Semantica, con el que acaba de lanzar su último álbum, Fluidum III (Semantica 120).

Cio D’Or is an artist, composer and DJ who seamlessly bridges the worlds of techno, art and composi,on. Her artistic drive and creative process begins with an idea that emerges from silence and aims to convey something inexpressible and indescribable. Her work testifies to the timeless possibilities of music and movement.
Cio D’Or’s sound is characterised by attention to detail, weaving together ethereal textures, subtle rhythmic complexity and an undeniable emotional depth, creating a balance between architectural precision and fluid, cinematic immersion. Each element is placed with intention and shaped by a keen awareness of structure and space.
Her releases on Semantica, Prologue and Kynant are timeless expressions of her minimalist and cinematic approach to electronic music.
Known for her dramaturgically structured DJ sets and cinematic productions, she has performed at Berghain, Dekmantel, Bassiani, De School and festivals worldwide.
Cio D’Or’s sound blends architectural precision with immersive atmospheres, informed by influences from Eno to Vainiø, from Bach to Stravinsky, and rooted in decades of sonic exploration. Her music continues to evolve. Her lifelong study of music does, too.

Through her creative process, live performances, and the balance between macro and micro perspectives, we uncover how Cio D’Or transforms the ‘power of less’ into a profound, intentional form of presence.

Designer of an instantly recognizable sound, she produces warm and deep complex structures, constantly on a fence between light and dark cliffs, noises and silences, cinematic settings and authentic presence. Part of a family of intricated sounds brought by artists such as Aleksi Perälä, Alva Noto, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, she’s a high representative of the minimal movement. She honors painter and pioneer Frank Stella’s quote “The aim of art is to create space,” she does through deep refined electronic music compositions and stripped piano pieces, delicate yet substantial.
Intriguing and engaging, her musical minimalism invites the listeners to bridge gaps with their thoughts, making them active in the artistic process and, therefore, contributing to the immersive effect. The mental activity is yet effortless for them: minimalism allows a focus on the essentials, by eliminating the dispensable sonic excesses and by creating space. Such a process brings mental freedom to the listeners, by breaking through the wall that a too-dense track would normally build. On the contrary, Cio D’Or’s music is open, and inviting, with an exquisite balance between artistic depth and hopeful, melancholic intelligence.

These are my personal rules based on experience and love for music, promoters and audiences:
