BSV: Hello Joyana. You are the first lady visioner in our session series. How that feels like?
JOYANA: Hey Marko! Thanks for having me here, it's a great pleasure! To come to your first question... It´s fantastic on the one hand, but a bit of a shame on the other, because I think there's an incredible amount of female talent. I know enough girls who would like to make music but don't really dare. At this point I can only say: Just do it, girls! It would be a shame to have to say: What would have happened if I had...? Or?

BSV: What about your artist name? Are you always full of joy (like your music)? What’s your real name?
JOYANA: You had the right nose! My artist name was actually created when I really wanted to have a logo. And for a good logo I also wanted a good name - self-explanatory. My friend Pia, who knows me very well, was talking on the phone and she said: "Something with joy, for my fun-loving and open-minded nature." We brainstormed a bit and in the end joyana was born.

BSV: Music searching, is that your daily routine?
JOYANA: Definitely! A day without music does not exist for me. I listen to music every day, and also actively search for new tracks. Of course, you often find something great new, where you would not have expected it. But of course I also listen to non-electronic music... For example I like old school hip hop, R'n'B, Latin or something rockier, like the H-Blockx.

BSV: Favorite hometown DJ?
JOYANA: That's difficult... There are some actually: Kollektiv Turmstraße, Solomun, Oliver Huntemann and last but not least Magdalena.

BSV: How did you get into electronic music? 
JOYANA: My father. He did a lot of DJ-ing in the 90's, but still in the classic way with vinyls. And since I was little I listened electronic music. And last year at the first lockdown in Germany he said: "Why don't you just start to deal with software like that? I thought to myself, "Yeah, why not?! I played piano for thirteen years and music has always been the biggest part of my life." So I loaded up Traktor Pro and not a day went by that I wasn't totally in love. That was just under a year and a half ago now. I'm very glad that he gave me the right push there, kept asking for new sets and I had a certain incentive as a result - I also wanted to prove it to him somehow: Your daughter can do it too! At this point: Thanks, Dad! But also of course all my friends who supported me because they really celebrate what I do. Last but not least, I'm also incredibly proud of myself for what I've learned so far. But of course there is still a lot of room for improvement. You never stop learning.

BSV: This mp.3 file has “Journey Through Space” title. Why?
JOYANA: When I start a set, I think about what story I want to tell. Since I have an extreme affinity for outer space and watch a lot of documentaries about it and am very enthusiastic about science - not to forget that I am also Marvel and Star Wars fan - this was an obvious choice for me. So I imagined a journey through space with different events and stages. Of course, it takes a little imagination, but I think if you close your eyes, dance and imagine it, you see it, you feel it.

BSV: How was this mix recorded? 
JOYANA: My dad and his partner had visited me the days before and drove that day. It was a bit rainy, gray and I then got a visit from very good friends. We played backgammon and it was just cozy. And at some point I just started. Had my story in my head and played one song after the next. Especially I wanted to make a new set as you gave me a great opportunity and hereby also want to thank you very much for your support and chance to get more attention from your audience!

Polymod is the tripped out space techno’d alias of Shadow Child, touching on areas of ethereal melodic electronica that he’s not usually known to reach. The German label-founder spoke on what the release embodies, stating: “Music From Space (Dimension A) is the brand new edition of this compilation concept, which you can take literally as it comes. I’m very happy to have collected eight exclusive tracks from the likes of Swedish Lady Molø, our newest signing Pôngo, ex-youngster Rodriguez Jr. and many more besides.”

Italian pairing Hunter / Game begin the journey with No Man’s Land, a slow-building piece packed full of ethereal synths and cosmic-themed vocal tones. Croatia’s Petar Dundov ups the tempo on Andante, showcasing his hallmark techno-trance sound through poignant chords and driving kick-hat combos, before longstanding Systematic affiliate Rodriguez Jr. arrives with Mare Serenitatis. A six-minute showcase in stripped-back, melodic groove, the celestial cut rises and falls with a gentle lucidity, opening beautifully into Fleut. Produced by rising Swedish artist Molø, shimmering keys
reside atop whispering hats to create an introspective dancefloor number, paving the way for the VA’s first collaboration: Eternity, courtesy of Systematic head Marc Romboy and Bedrock regular Oniris.
Breaks-inspired percussion marries up next to hauntingly-beautiful string solos, as the sounds of Germany and France collide.

Original techno luminary Scan X makes his label debut with Stellar Nebula, a late-night creeper that represents extraterrestrial worlds far removed from ours. We’re soon graced with the starry-eyed sounds of Pôngo, whose vocal offering leaves us in a state of reflection on Blind, before Munich mainstay Julian Wassermann transports us to martian territory with The Red Planet. An apt title, it acts as the penultimate track on the VA and sets the tone for the final collaborative effort:Neutron, produced by two electronic music veterans in the form of Oliver Linge and Olaf Pozsgay.

Marc Romboy’s Systematic imprint has built up a global following ever since its inception sixteen years ago. Inspired by the sounds of his Chicago heroes, Marc launched the label in 2005 and has since gone on to welcome an eclectic array of producers to the fold, from Mike Dunn to Fur Coat and a myriad of fellow talent. In most recent times, the likes of Robert Babicz, Pôngo as well as Marc himself have pushed the Systematic sound further, garnering the label a reputation for releasing emotionally-charged music that remains ripe for any dancefloor.

Bio:

Born in the suburbs of Milan, David developed a curious interest in music at a young age. Buying his first DJ equipment at 14, he pursued his passion for electronic music. Initially making mixes for his friends soon lead to his first real gig at 18 and various other clubs in north Italy.

In 2008, he started producing his own music and defining his unique style—a dark melodic blend with some deep techno influences. Popular artists like Tiësto, Kyau & Albert, Darin Epsilon, Eelke Kleijn began to support his music, as well as multiple labels like ICONYC, Euphonic, Lost On You, Proton Music, and Balkan Connection. And in 2017, David started a collab with the dutch producer Steve Banning, co-founding a music platform called “Melodic Deep” to help recognize and develop relationships with other talented artists.

In recent years, David continued to share his love for music becoming the Italian Ambassador for the Burn Residency in April 2018 — playing venues throughout Europe including Kappa FuturFestival, Movement Torino, A Summer Story Madrid, and ADE Amsterdam.

BSV: Gde si bre tebra? What’s going on? Any mad horses in Konjarnik?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: Nah, man! We chase away all of them! :D ahahah

BSV: When you were enrolling in audio engineering studies, did you want to be involved in the production of electronic music (DJ-ing)?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: Yes, I started DJ-ing first, and after some time, I just wanted to make some music, to see if I can do it at all.

BSV: One of your first performances was nothing less than a warm-up for Timo Maas. What can you tell us about that experience?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: I didn't do that.

BSV: By listening your remix of Groovy Soul (feat. Mila Mono) we found some Gramophonedzie influences. Is that coincidence?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: Not at all, he is one of the nicest guy in the industry and I like his music style, production and groove. I've been a long time follower of @gramophonedzie and his example of hard work is something I can look upon.

BSV: Favorite synth vst?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: Arturia Collection and Analog Lab.

BSV: You are working as a mix engineer in Force Records, so you have the opportunity to mix different genres. Has that expanded your current production range?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: For sure, I love to do different genres. Every genre is specific and how you approach it, and most of all, you need to listen all those genres to be able to mix it on the right way. 

BSV: Favorite female producer / DJ?
IVAN TANASIJEVIC: C'mon Marko, you know me, I am a gentleman. I can't name just one, so I can encourage as many female producers / DJs to keep making / playing music!
