Oh what a time it's been...

After a small hiatus with the mix series I felt it was important to keep going with it. This beautiful healing music by Berlin based @slowfoam is exactly what the doctor ordered. Slowfoam is the cyber-atmospheric, bubblescape, synthetic pop, and ambient sound project of Madelyn Byrd

"In this mix, I wanted to drift between otherworldly realms to reassociate with the things I love most about ours. For me, some of these things include laying on the earth and pretending to merge into the blue sky, the sonic and energetic sensations of being alone in nature, or staring at a glistening river until falling into a trance. But also, having friends and loved ones I miss so much I start to giggle when I think about the fun we've had together, and then fun we'll have together again."

A fresh face to the production world, Tangerine (aka Clementine Girard-Foley) has proven that she is here to stay, with the finesse and talent of any veteran of the scene. Tangerine seems to walk two distinct yet related pathways in her musical world, on one hand she waltzes, writing beautiful contemporary classical piano compositions, as seen recently with her track ‘Spiral’ on Pure Space’s ‘Proximity’ compilation. On the other, she struts showing her darker side crafting driving experimental electronic sets which effortlessly weave between slo-mo techno, electro and drum and bass, her debut performance reaching Melbourne Music Week audiences. With a background in piano, Clem found the rigidity of performing the likes of Chopin Nocturnes to the standards of the classical music world somewhat cruel, but unquestionably stifling. Lucky for us, she found comfort in her own compositions - no doubt the free and boundless nature of electronic music production also drawing her to the dark side. In amongst it all, Clem also finds the time to build platforms for our creative community, co-founding Verve Zine, a multidisciplinary multimedia platform dedicated to promoting emerging artists. If this is just the beginning for Tangerine’s production journey, put me down for staying until the end. Tangerine joined for episode of Passing Notes 120 on 26th June 2021. Clem also kindly answered my prying questions, with a lovely which can be accessed at passingnotes.radio.

The fourth instalment of the Voyages mix series is lead by Ukrainian-born, Warsaw based @shjva who's warping production and tripped-out selections have spent hours ringing around our ears at base camp. 

With releases spanning a breadth of contemporary psychedelic soundscapes, notably the self-released 12-tracker 'zemlia', we were delighted when they agreed to take the reigns on a Voyage on Plantera.

Shjva lays down a shamanic journey of ritualistic hypnosis through the ripples of space and nature.

This mix is by Nessim, and to say the least, a very impressive one. Through residencies on Bethlehem's Radio Alhara & Amsterdam's Echobox Radio, Nessim has cultivated sounds that lean towards the aqueous, percussive, and expansive sides of experimental electronics, breaks, jazz, and ambient.
This mix for Knekelhuis is an ode to experimental dance/electronic music scenes of the 1990s, from Illbient to IDM & breakbeat techno.
