Foxcast 1: Adriatique - The Cityfox Experience (July 2013)

A returning Cityfox favorite, Rodriguez Jr. never fails to amaze us whether it’s when he’s doing his live set on our stages or in the studio with his productions. Brought up under the tutelage of the great Laurent Garnier, Rodriguez Jr. has made waves in his own right with his prolific and award-winning music productions. While the world stood still in 2020, Rodriguez Jr. labored without fail in the studio to bring us his third album, Blisss, that came out on mobilee records. Featuring collaborations with his wife, Liset Alea from Nouvelle Vogue, the album is an attestation to his tactful skill in creating epic melodies that never disappoint. 

Taking the time out of his busy release schedule, Rodriguez Jr. has afforded us a spectacular Foxcast that features his own works in addition to a Patrice Baumel remix of Cubicolor, tracks by Agents of Time, Ede, and others. A well-crafted aural journey, Rodriguez Jr. gently steers the listener through the soft waves of melodic and ambient deep house with vestiges of piano keys to harder-hitting tracks where the bassline really sings. Adeptly creating an ebb and flow, he inflects hypnotic and twangy tracks to keep things riveting, though a satisfying melody is never too far behind. 

As the sun shines brighter and the days of spring get longer, there is hope in the air elicited by the sounds of Rodriguez Jr.’s delightful Foxcast. Here’s to hoping that we all may be reunited on the dance floor quite soon and be able to host our favorite artists once more.

We're excited to present the next Foxcast by Brooklyn-based Bedouin. Tamer Malki and Rami Deejay (Abousabe) are staples on the East Coast, with longstanding residencies in Boston and New York City, separately honing the craft alongside the scene's most recognizable names. When they joined together as a production and DJ duo, the sum of their parts led to something on another level.

Their productions speak for themselves: boasting  releases on Supernature and Get Physical, All Day I Dream and Kindisch, but it's their DJ sets that speak to their complex style and sensibilities; winning over new fans one event at a time. As only their second released set, this Foxcast is deep and groovy, simultaneously brooding and sultry. Hi everyone, @atish here. Those who follow me closely know I rarely release live recordings, sharing mostly studio mixes. For live recordings I have released, there's an internal debate weighing my discomfort with putting out something I'm not totally happy with against requests or promotional value of having it in the wild.

But everything about the night of The Den put me in the zone: I could DJ without thinking since tracks I chose sounded pristine on the KV2 Audio sound system, the incredible vibe from a 2000 person floor of dance music enthusiasts energized me as performer, a 1-3am timeslot between Mark Slee and Martin Buttrich meant I could musically toe the line between deep and driving.

And I was wearing my favorite shirt (it's funny how these little things matter). For this recording, there wasn't the typical internal debate. I'm excited for you to hear it, and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did playing.

As residents of the Cityfox New York events, it was high time @adriatique had the chance to flex their repertoire and range beyond a 2hr peaktime slot. On April 11, did they ever. After superb sets by Mark Slee (@mcslee), Atish (@atish) and then Martin Buttrich live (@martin-buttrich), Adrian & Adrian took the decks before a packed and very ready house, playing on a super tight KV2 Audio system. Very simply, the greatest testament to this set is that they started at 4am and when they finished at about 9, most on the dance floor remained to hear them through the end. We've never seen so many people stay out so late in NYC, which says it all.

German producer @ruede delivered a massive LIVE Foxcast with a delectable taste of the sounds he will bring for The Cityfox Experience at The Brooklyn Mirage on September 9th, alongside Job Jobse, Atish, Patlac and more.

In this Foxcast, Ruede weaves a hypnotizing tale using only his productions, remixes, and edits. A mystic intro hooks the your ear into a gradual submersion of driving bells that permeate the mix. The familiarity of 'Fetzo' and his remix of Marc Romboy's 'Counting Comets' anchor a slew of his other grooves.

A self-taught producer from the outskirts of Berlin who discovered the computer as a means of expressing himself, Ruede moved into the city to be closer to the epicenter of the music he loves. As a producer, he focuses upon perfecting melodies, a passion that is more than evident in his work. His finely-produced, detail-oriented music has been released on the likes of Watergate Records, Keinemusik, and Lebensfreude Records and his talents have been lauded by Sven Vaeth and Michael Mayer.

We daresay this mix achieves near perfection for initial enjoyment and countless re-listens. At times symphonic, other times choral, at times riveting or euphoric, with seamless transitions and ever-steady groove between each motif. Mathias maintains a perfect mood during the hour-long journey as he traverses between all, with nary an off-note. We can't wait for his live primetime set.

@oliverschories shows off his fluidity in our first Foxcast of 2018 with a fantastic DJ mix ahead of his anticipated live set for our Cityfox Experience on April 14th at Avant Gardner Brooklyn (https://bit.ly/2ILF4I1). 

Inside the mix, Oliver artfully transitions from the moody and melodic to the ebullient and techier side of house, using each minute to carefully showcase his range. We find ourselves weaving through ruminative tracks that lull us into a sense of feeling even-keeled, the calm before the storm. The latter half of the mix dives into dance floor movers and shakers, picking up the pace and unleashing raw energy in a whirlwind whilst adding a poignant political message in one of the overlaid vocals. At the end however, Oliver gently sets us down once more on solid ground, returning the listener once more to a meditative state.  

We have been fans of his productions for quite some time - starting with his second album "EXIT" released in 2013 - and are happy to have him on board April 14th showcasing his live set. The Hamburg-based producer and DJ has always had a knack for eliciting deeper emotions through his productions and effortlessly transferring that ability to his DJ sets. We cannot wait to experience this first-hand during his specially prepared live set for us.

The Danish trio of prolific producers, consisting of Tomas Barfod, Jeppe Kjellberg, and Tomas Høffding, who are now on their sixth album, explore concepts of humanity through their musicality. Their songs have a knack of eliciting the listener’s emotions through their own brand of unconventional indie pop electronic that is inspired by the likes of David Bowie and James Blake. Their versatility between classic rock band and electronic music act, and ultimately the integration of the two, is what truly sets them apart.

Despite their busy touring and production schedule, WhoMadeWho has favored us with this introspective Foxcast just in time for the weekend, taking on a sonorous journey that will guide us into the new year’s eve festivities. Madrid-based Henry Saiz has been releasing music since 2006, his music some of the most diverse and sound-spanning in house music today. He founded the Natura Sonoris label in 2009, which was recognized and lauded as the best of the year by DJ Mag Spain. But one imprint wasn't enough: 2017 saw the advent of his Lost Worlds Records, on which he debuted Calor, a record from his alter-ego, Hal Incandenza. His first album as Hal Incandenza is a foray into dancey synth-pop that exhibits Saiz' versatility. The following year, Saiz evolved yet again to release Human under the alias Henry Saiz & Band, taking the synth-pop sounds of Calor and adding more intense, cinematic hues, with a strong spotlight on vocals and lyrics not heard in any of his prior EPs.

Those cinematic hues—grand, evocative of differing moods but harmoniously synergistic—are ever-present in this Foxcast. It spans from high-energy, melodic house to epic, organic instrumental scenes reminiscent of his work with his Band.

He's a mainstay at clubs and festivals the world over, from Glastonbury, Sonar and Ultra, so it's an absolute delight to host Henry when he makes his Cityfox and Brooklyn Mirage debut for a very special b2b session with fellow Spaniard Edu Imbernon.

This past July, Henry Saiz (@henry-saiz) and Edu Imbernon (@imbernonmusic) performed in The Kings Hall at Avant Gardner and we recorded their incredible b2b set. In this edition of Live @ Cityfox, we hear a blend of uniquely mixed, sustainable house grooves woven about cinematic hues—grand, evocative of differing moods, which sound harmoniously synergistic, against Imbernon’s energetic, worldly harmonies and ethereal vibes.

Edu Imbernon burst on to the scene in 2009 with an infectious worldly house music track co-produced by Coyu entitled “El baile alemán” (Liebe Detail, 2009), and seizing the attention of the community winning “Best Underground Track of the Year” by Beatport. He cemented his presence a year later, releasing a remix of The XX's ‘Crystalised,’ using the momentum to then start the label, party, and brand Fayer in 2012. It reflects Imbernon's music, bridging the gap between indie and electronica melodies with house and techno structure and beats. Over the past decade, his signature sound is encapsulated by the imprint: favored by partygoers from his hometown of Valencia, to the world. He's curated and remixed music from the likes of Adriatique, Maya Jane Coles, WhoMadeWho, Jonas Rathsman, and Patrice Baumel.

Since they’re both mainstays at clubs and festivals the world over, from Glastonbury to Creamfields, Sonar and Ultra, it's an absolute delight to have hosted these two for an especially uplifting travel soundscape journey on this Foxcast.

Hold on to your caskets and get ready to raise your talons in triumph and terror as @DJHellOfficial brings us on a dizzying two hour and 40-minute techno peregrination in this brand new Foxcast podcast episode. Just ahead of his Cityfox Halloween 2019 appearance, DJ Hell presents a mix that seemingly parallels the Electroclash pioneer’s career characteristics: consistent and enduring, protean and piquant, meditative and visionary.

We celebrate this master of the techno vanguard for four decades of pioneering and blending musical genres, establishing label International Deejay Gigolos, co-collaborating with other critically acclaimed industry label giants and artists, serving as creative mentor and guide to both established fashion and music industry brands, and more influential firsts than many can and have achieved in their lifetime. His humble beginnings as an experimental, versatile club DJ in 1978 propelled this electronic music industry giant into becoming a recognized A&R lead, one of the first techno DJs to produce his own records, a resident at Munich’s first-ever techno club, and a fashion elite advisor and icon.

Now, with more than 300 singles and albums released through the IDG label, and more than five studio albums featuring originally produced material, there’s almost no sound DJ Hell hasn’t explored and exposed his audience to and this mix is no different.

On October 26, we marveled at this man who mastered techno, introduced the world to the first trance compilation, founded a popular subgenre of techno; a man who deserved being awarded the title ‘Man of the Year’ after producing a double album that replicated New York nightlife’s seductive and elusive day-to-night sound and culture.

Foxcast 34: DJ Hell (October 2019)

On September 28, 2019, @OliverSchories brought scintillating deep house grooves to energize The King’s Hall at Cityfox TRANSCEND 2019, the Brooklyn Mirage closing event. His cavernous, yet gritty drumbeats, shoulder-jumping melodies, and layered samples woven beneath funky synths on full display!

Since infiltrating and exciting the electronic scene in The Netherlands post-debut album release,’Herzensangelegenheit in 2011, Schories — a now celebrated German born-and-bred DJ and producer has been busy, focused, and consistently committed to releasing coherent, quality work spanning seemingly uncorrelated genres and decades and playing the worldwide stage from festivals to underground clubs. His most recent EP is the impressive, fifth studio-album release ‘Blitzbahn,' dropped in March 2018.

Oliver's formative adolescent years were spent listening to rock legends like the Credence Clearwater Revival and The Beatles. He attended his first electronic music nightclub when he was 15 years old, fell in love with the record ‘Experience’ by The Prodigy and still sites his early introduction to fellow hometown hero, Stephan Bodzin as being the pivotal moments that cemented his love for the genre he’s heavily influencing today.

In this mix, you can hear the appreciation for the popular whining harmonies of guitar strings and vocal samples creating a lyrical rhythm beneath a sometimes haunting and sometimes hopeful sustaining house beat.

At the Brooklyn Mirage season finale @andhim dug a groove so deep in the King’s Hall the people couldn’t stop dancing. For two hours, the super DJ duo took the crowd on a pop-synth odyssey with jumping drum beats that summoned hands waving in praise and feet stomping with power and purpose, while occasional ominous vocal samples reminded the room of the house journey we were on together.

andhim - LIVE at Cityfox Transcend (September 2019)

Amidst the height of the darkest season, Rodriguez Jr. illuminated The Immortal Kingdom at The 2019 Cityfox Halloween festival with a signature Live house set, taking us on an undulating synth-laced voyage with attacking drum beats that made the crowd quake with rigor and might! What a delight.

Over the course of the one and a half hour set in The Immortal Kingdom, Olivier Mateu performed an homage to his Chicago and Detroit house music influences with bouncy house synths haunting and weaving into whimsical harmonies uplifting the crowd over clapping snares and incessant hi-hat tinkerings, while maniacal samples looped to make melodic phrases worked as a nod to the spooky season.

He worked the crowd as a natural, classically trained musician does and his performative alter ego came alive for the ride, plus he gave us insight into the track list (a rarity!) so take a peek below and comment where your favorite musical moment peaks.

Rodriguez Jr. - LIVE at The Cityfox Halloween Festival (October 2019)

In the early morning hours on Sunday, October 27th, German-born and bred DJs Mathias Kaden and Santé closed out The Immortal Kingdom at The Cityfox Halloween Festival with a raucous blended house and techno set against a backdrop of illuminated skulls and zany costumed dance music lovers.
The room bopped and jumped for almost three hours and we've preserved forever almost two hours of the incredible set below for your listening pleasure. Consistent kick drums, celebratory claps and snares, and house-music vocal mantras made the mood for this set automatically upbeat and creative, just like the two masters behind it.

To celebrate the end of the decade, we bring you an exclusive, one hour and twenty-minute emotionally evocative, melodic odyssey from the studio of @Fideles, Italian DJ duo who met nine years ago in a club near a town where they both were living, and the rest is history! Foxcast 35: Fideles (December 2019)

In this latest exclusive Foxcast, decorated deep house artist and Anjunadeep label favorite, @Marshmusician delivers a one-hour sparkling, momentus deep house mix that tantalizes and energizes the spirit. 

Born into a musical family, trained in piano, and educated in music technology, Tom Marshall methodically developed into the nuanced and sophisticated artist we know and love today. He fell for and created an emotional connection to the energy of early Trance music and eventually debuted on Silk Music in June 2012 with ‘You’ll Be Fine,’ which gained industry-wide support and thrust him onto the electronic dance music scene. Since then, it’s been a steady stream of spotlights, features, and appearances. His Spotify page alone has accumulated over 7 million streams and reaches 2.4 million listeners.

Foxcast 36:  Marsh (December 2019)

On the first day of 2020, @Ida-Engberg made her Cityfox and Avant Gardner debut, filling the Void in Brooklyn with a decadent four-hour techno set for all to two-step into the new year. 'The Arrival,’ an audiovisual installation from visionary A/V architect duo, 404.zero, designed a spatial fantasy that interacted with the height of the drops and the depth of the bass, creating a journey of sound that lured people in from every corner of the five-stage complex. Listening back to this incredible early evening in January with Ida will surely have you craving her beats for weeks. Rayson Diaz, a contributor for FreshMusicFreaks.com writes, “Around 3 pm I decided to check out the lovely Ida Engberg, some of you may know her as Adam Beyer’s wife but I know her as a Techno goddess after this set. The production in the room known as the Void was insane thanks to a special art installment, which perfectly matched the intensity of her set.” 

A product of Sweden's techno scene, Ida Engberg has distinguished herself as a DJ/Producer through relentless hard work, passion, and her discerning ear for deep house. Her versatility and performance energy is infectious; whether she’s playing big room techno at Drumcode shows or waking up the spirits at after-hours all around the world, Ida continues to surprise and entice the sophisticated ears of the most committed techno listeners. Marsh - LIVE at The Cityfox Odyssey (NYE & NYD 2020)

On Saturday, February 29th, beneath a halo of shimmering lights and amidst a dizzying array of lasers in Great Hall, Rodriguez Jr. delivered his newest opus, featuring tracks from his new album Blisss, (debuting on April 24 on Mobilee) to an eager, captivated audience at Cityfox LIVE. The impending album name accurately portrayed the overall mood of the whole live set, a body of work that projected elation and sheer beauty upon listeners. Each sound meticulously crafted and placed to create a grandiose ambiance, at times orchestral in its arrangement, elicited the sense of being part of something bigger than oneself. Coupled with entrancing visuals, a frenetic circle of lights that extended into the audience, and various lasers, it seemed quite clear that our production and Rodriguez Jr.’s music were simply made for each other. 

Harkening back to this amazing 1-hour live set, easily some of Rodriguez Jr.’s best work yet, recreates the magic of the night in the mind’s eye without any difficulty. For those who were unable to attend - here is a chance to experience a sliver of what makes Cityfox LIVE so special. The epic melodies, vocals, and range of sounds - even touching upon some acid house notes - makes this set an aural feast.

Rodriguez Jr., hailing from Paris, France, has graced many Cityfox events past and it is always a pleasure to have him. Rodriguez Jr. - LIVE at Cityfox Live (February 2020)

Kicking off the first live set of the Cityfox LIVE in Great Hall on Saturday, February 29th, was none other than the young prodigy from Cologne, Germany - Tim Engelhardt. The room was already packed, brimming with anticipation of a night experiencing new music, some improvised right here at Avant Gardner and some planned well in advance. In the case of Tim, it was the debut of his stellar new album material, coming out this summer and well planned indeed.

Incorporating sultry vocals and jazzy elements, Tim’s set was a perfectly balanced journey of melodic riffs and groovy beats. Highly attentive to detail, Tim is very diligent about his music production - which was clearly evident in his live set. “I  take a lot of care on the bass, the frequencies, and all these sounds,” Tim has told Night Mag. “I spend a lot of time checking if something could disturb the listener.” Standing amidst the swirling lights that encompassed Tim and his live gear in a lightbox of sorts, it was if he was in his own studio except surrounded by thousands of people, with hands in the air, ears peaked, and bodies engaged.

With his first record released at the age of 14, Tim Engelhardt’s star has steadily been on the rise. With brilliant releases on the Cityfox label (Chymera and Ida), Tim has been a welcome regular at Cityfox events since his first play with us in September of 2017, his US debut. In addition, he has had well-received releases on notable labels such as Anjunadeep, Bedrock Records, Poker Flat Recordings, and Last Night on Earth to name just a few. His productions are energetic renditions of melodic house music that intertwines classic elements with monumental builds and soothing vocals, which have awarded him a growing fanbase. In these uncertain times, sit back and take in Tim’s masterfully produced live set as we dream of the day we can meet on the dance floor once more.

Tim Engelhardt - LIVE at Cityfox Live (February 2020)

Spectacularly closing out Cityfox LIVE on Saturday, February 29th, was none other than the duo Schwarzmann (Frank Wiedemann and Henrik Schwarz) featuring a guest performance from Chicago house legend Robert Owens. The former, two well-respected live acts of the world-renowned Innervisions label, coming together as one and the latter, a product of the Chicago music scene since before the day house music was born. Relive the culmination of the night with this splendid two-hour mix featuring masters of their craft.

Kicking off their jam with a jazzy start, Frank and Henrik faced each other from across their tables of synthesizers, soundboards and other equipment, encircled by lasers and lights, with their body movements synchronized to the sounds they were unleashing upon an eager and packed Great Hall. That night, Schwarzmann enlightened the room to the true meaning of house music in more ways than one. While Henrik Schwarz and Frank Wiedemann have graced our Cityfox events several times over the years, they rarely play together as Schwarzmann stateside, let alone alongside Robert Owens - making this performance a special aural treat for the Cityfox audience and Schwarzmann fans alike.

The jazz undertones continued throughout the energetic set with articulations of saxophone, piano, trumpet, and organ brilliantly weaved in, and also included the sprinkling of hit classics such as one of Frank’s productions (as Ame), “Rej,” a fan-favorite that aroused cheers from the crowd. Robert Owens commanded stage presence from the moment he walked on, effortlessly working the crowd and the mic, spreading the message of love at the same time while Henrik and Frank provided the beat in the background. Telepathically in sync, the three friends picked up jamming and singing easily from where they left off the last time they played together, with only a short rehearsal between them since. Robert’s enigmatic smile and his words mixed with Schwarzmann's closing melodies provided a grand finale to remember for a Cityfox night of world-class LIVE electronic music.

Schwarzmann [Henrik Schwarz & Frank Wiedemann] - LIVE at Cityfox Live (February 2020)

Approaching what would have been the start of the 2020 Mirage summer season, Cityfox Regenerate on May 9th, we are instead facing a somewhat different reality in experiencing music for the time being. However somber the tone of the world, this has not stopped artists stepping forth with musical creations for us to while away the time in musical splendor. For this Foxcast, on what would have been their Cityfox debut, @Innellea takes on the playing field to come up with a euphonious journey of their own.

Innellea, which initially began as a duo project, began working on their first productions eight years ago in Germany. Eventually, their first releases were on Music Autonomica and Underyourskin Records. Hard work over the years paid off and Innellea’s star rose quickly. Being named by Groove Magazine as best newcomers of the year in 2017 spurred further successes such as EP release “Vigilans” on the widely popular Afterlife imprint, "If Sarah Wouldn’t Cry“ on Innervisons and performances in 33 countries around the world. 2020 is the year of new beginnings, however, with Michael taking over the project after an amicable split with partner Daniel(after he fell sick due to heavy touring and pressure), alongside the release of two new tracks and a remix.

Professing an affinity to “melodies, strong basslines, and crazy arrangements,” this 90-minute Foxcast is a testament to Innellea’s musical style and varied tastes. For them, things as simple as a conversation can serve as inspiration for their music and they do not let themselves be bound by genres. Luring us in with a quote that is relevant to the world’s current situation, the mix takes a plunge into an electric array of effusive synths and epic melodies, interwoven with emotive vocals throughout. At the very end of the mix, us listeners are reminded of the message that launched the Foxcast: to not give up, to stay strong, and to stick together; that even after the strongest thunderstorm follows the most beautiful sunshine - words that cannot ring more true in these uncertain times. 

Sit back and take in the lovely journey of melodies that Innellea presents us with, to hold us over until we can all be on the dance floor once more.

Foxcast 37: Innellea (May 2020)

Inside the cozy and vibrant Lost Circus, Tim Green and Justin Marchacos delivered quite the energetic live set to an eager, excited crowd that came with an open mind and dancing shoes ready to go for Cityfox LIVE on Saturday, February 29th. Let this mix with Tim and Justin at the helm, take you back to the riveting night in our beloved wooden spiegeltent room, full of warm colors, groove-inducing sounds, and exhilarating vibes.

Although both are Cityfox artists with releases on the Cityfox label, Tim Green and Justin started a pond apart. Tim Green, native of the UK has been producing for over 13 years with numerous notable releases on Cocoon Recordings, Get Physical, and now most recently, All Day I Dream. Justin Marchacos is one of New York’s own, whose music career actually began with Cityfox, with his debut performance at the New Years Eve 2015 event. Since then he has been expanding his repertoire of productions and gigs.  



The two, who have been working together in the studio, united for the special occasion of Cityfox LIVE to bring us a live set that is bursting with melodies and sultry themes, including Cityfox release and fan favorite, Tim Green’s remix of Atelier Francesco’s ‘Dead End’. The soaring synths and epic bass lines easily recreate the amazing night featuring just LIVE acts, even as we experience this from the comfort of our own homes and personal listening devices. Tim Green b2b Justin Marchacos - LIVE at Cityfox Live (February 2020)

The winter cold was mild as the clock struck midnight on Cityfox Odyssey’s NYE 2020 celebrations. In what proved to be a whirlwind of an amazing night-into-day affair, the jovial DJ duo Andhim took over Kings Hall just after the ball drop, encased in a light box installation - their spaceship and the vehicle to outer realms for the night.  Blasting off their set with tracks that were full of whimsy and mirth, the crowd was overjoyed and elated. Everyone was ready for their first journey of many that night.

Andhim, comprised of Simon Haehnel and Tobias Müller, are the best friends you always want to have around: lighthearted, cheeky, and most importantly - they never take themselves too seriously. This mantra and joie de vivre is reflected in the musicality of their sets, which has become a genre of so-called “Super House” and has endeared them to the crowds. Hailing from Cologne, Germany, Andhim has quite the repertoire of productions over the years since 2010, with classic tracks like “Wizard of Us” in 2013 and other releases on Get Physical, SuperFriends, and Monaberry.

This riveting live recording is emblematic of Andhim’s funky put-a-smile-on-your-face style mixed in with smooth and sexy rhythms that one cannot help but move and groove to. Strong believers of closing out on an uplifting note, Andhim cinched the three hour journey with feel-good tunes “Lunar Fling (Aera Remix)” by RSS Disco and “Last Song” by yours truly. As they have said themselves, “The last track needs to be strong. In a way, it's the centerpiece of the entire set. It should engage everyone and lift your own spirits. If it does, everyone walks home in the perfect state of mind.” 

Times may be tough and we miss our friends on the dance floor, however let this mix bring you to a sunnier mindset, perhaps a smile and a little two-step or two. Andhim - LIVE at The Cityfox Odyssey (NYE & NYD 2020)

Oh, the trials and tribulations that this year has seen! Now as the year comes to a close, with our dancing shoes gathering a bit of dust, we look to the new year for hope and the possibility of physically coming together in the name of music once again. In the meantime, our eyes and ears have been peeled for new sounds and rising stars. Taking center stage for this Foxcast, we present @Budakid, an upcoming talent that is making waves out of the Netherlands with an enviable release catalog. Providing us with a beautifully mellow yet uplifting mix that eases the senses and the mind, Budakid helps us smoothly navigate out of the turbulence of 2020 and into a new era.

Effervescent at times, moodier at others, this Foxcast encompasses the qualities and sentiments that Melodic House fans love most – elation, morale-boosting, the inclination to dance, darker musical twists that always return to melodic sounds, providing a euphoric elevation of the mind. One cannot help the cliché of throwing their hands in the air - even older jaded stalwarts of the dance floor have no shame in admitting so. It is quite evident that Melodic House greats like Guy J and Sasha have an intrinsic influence on Budakid’s production style and musical tastes in this carefully crafted Foxcast, which also features tracks by the likes of Joseph Ashworth, Deetron, Frankey & Sandrino, and Shiffer.

Budakid’s beginnings may not have been very different from other DJs, however, it is his music and proficiency at production that sets him apart. With sixteen releases in 2020 alone on a myriad of well-respected labels such as Anjunadeep, Armada Music, Diynamic, Exploited, Last Night on Earth, Lost & Found, and Einmusika Recordings (label of Cityfox regular Einmusik), his talent is hard to ignore. With a residency in Utrecht and gigs in 22 countries – not to mention one on the Great Wall of China - already under his belt, Budakid has become a mainstay, especially in the Melodic House realm.

Foxcast 38: Budakid (December 2020)

@ChloeCaillet graced Cityfox decks for the first time at the 2019 Mirage Closings, delivering a spectacular 3-hour musical voyage (which is available for your listening pleasure on our Soundcloud in our Cityfox LIVE playlist). The French American DJ has graduated from the fashion circuit and is now seeing her star rise faster than ever, completing a residency at Transmoderna in Ibiza in 2019. We cannot wait to welcome her back to our soirees when the time is right again. In the meantime, she has bestowed upon us a gem of a Foxcast to tide us over.

“Fools rush in” as the saying goes, however, the real masters of the mix are those who are adept at the slow build, as is the case here with Chloe Caillet’s Foxcast. The appreciation of the slow build is like the appreciation of fine wine, enhanced by age. Often times it is omitted when it is oh-so-relished. The chugging beat of a pitched-down “It’s a War” (SS UK Re-Edit) by Kano defines that sentiment, warming the waters yet hinting of the funk and punchiness yet to come.

The mix follows a journey that picks up pace with masterful subtlety, with a tasteful sprinkling of world music from the likes of Lord Nelson and others meshed in seamlessly and lending the mix a hypnotic aspect.

Astral and atmospheric sound effects accentuate our daze until, all of a sudden, we come out of the dream and realize the beat is driving and the mix is a vibe. Encapsulating the mood of our times, this Foxcast from Chloe is just what the doctor ordered to allay our frenzied emotions. Rounding out the mix with uplifting notes from Jon Gurd’s ’Together” (Tom Demac Remix), she arms us with emotional buoyancy to weather the storm of our times.
