Safeway at 56th and Illinois is closer to 38th and Illinois than Kroger on 16th, more affordable than Fresh Market too. Absolutely still a food desert since Double 8's closing though. I remember hearing that maybe North Church ran a shuttle for area residents looking to shop there for a period of time after Double 8's closing, not sure how long it lasted though. Would be disappointed to see all this new investment in the area only to overlook the needs of the people who live there now. A brewery should not be first on the list of new potential new development.

Interview 4: Miss Leslie

Adeleine: A year ago, we had an idea.
Tucker: We wanted to write a podcast for Indy, about Indy
Tucker and Adeleine: Hi, how are you?

Adeleine: I’m Adeleine
Christin: Nice to meet you
Tucker: So we’re working with the Harrison center for the arts on 16th & Delaware and we’re writing a podcast this summer
Adeleine: We’re here to tell the stories of neighborhoods and the people that live in them. We want to shed light on the places that you might know nothing about.
Unknown Female Voice: If they do use it, they’re gonna have problems in the basement. because there used to be a starter home in the basement.
Adeleine: Really?
Unknown: Yeah
Tucker: We believe in community, and the way a place changes and grows. The new tattoo parlor that’s opening, and the original car wash that’s been there for 50 years.
Adeleine: But most of all, We’re interested in the people. The way they see change and experience it, and the way we all contribute to our communities.
Unknown Male Voice: A couple years ago, they just tore all of that down a couple years ago, I was there
Adeleine: Really? So they completely stripped it?
Unknown: Ah yeah, they tore down everything
Tucker: Wow
Adeleine: How long did it take?
Adeleine: We’re setting out into the neighborhoods of Indianapolis to see what’s really there.
Tucker: We love story, and we hope you do too, because that’s why we’re here.
Adeleine: These are great places, and we want to tell you about them
Tucker: We’re going to step into these communities, inquire about their backstories, storefronts, and most of all, the people
Adeleine: Forgotten memories will be recovered, there will be intrigue, discovery, and rejection.
When we started, we weren’t sure what to expect, Maybe broken down buildings and people who had given up hope?
Tucker: We’re here to tell you that we were wrong
