Interview 4: Miss Leslie

Adeleine: A year ago, we had an idea.
Tucker: We wanted to write a podcast for Indy, about Indy
Tucker and Adeleine: Hi, how are you? 
Christine: Good, How are you?

Tucker: Tucker
Adeleine: I’m Adeleine
Christin: Nice to meet you
Tucker: So we’re working with the Harrison center for the arts on 16th & Delaware and we’re writing a podcast this summer
Adeleine: We’re here to tell the stories of neighborhoods and the people that live in them. We want to shed light on the places that you might know nothing about.
Unknown Female Voice: If they do use it, they’re gonna have problems in the basement. because there used to be a starter home in the basement.
Adeleine: Really?
Unknown: Yeah
Tucker: We believe in community, and the way a place changes and grows. The new tattoo parlor that’s opening, and the original car wash that’s been there for 50 years.
Adeleine: But most of all, We’re interested in the people. The way they see change and experience it, and the way we all contribute to our communities.
Unknown Male Voice: A couple years ago, they just tore all of that down a couple years ago, I was there
Adeleine: Really? So they completely stripped it?
Unknown: Ah yeah, they tore down everything
Tucker: Wow
Adeleine: How long did it take?
Adeleine: We’re setting out into the neighborhoods of Indianapolis to see what’s really there.
Tucker: We love story, and we hope you do too, because that’s why we’re here.
Adeleine: These are great places, and we want to tell you about them
Tucker: We’re going to step into these communities, inquire about their backstories, storefronts, and most of all, the people
Adeleine: Forgotten memories will be recovered, there will be intrigue, discovery, and rejection.
When we started, we weren’t sure what to expect, Maybe broken down buildings and people who had given up hope?
Tucker: We’re here to tell you that we were wrong

We meet Marilyn, owner of Mardog’s Variety and Things at Monon 16. She has a unique style, an eclectic store and home, and a passion for development.

38th Street was once named Maple Street, Broad Ripple used to be a town separate from Indianapolis, and Maple Crossing has a unique history of its own. 

Episode 3: Mapleton

We've heard about the vision of Monon16 through the perspective of Marilyn. Now, we hear about the vision through the perspectives of some key developers, who have an equally ambitious idea of what it should be.

Episode 4: Juxtaposition

A new tattoo parlor is opening in Maple Crossing, and the owner has big plans for the future of the community, and an insight into it's past.

A tale of two schools and the building that connects them across time.

We live cuz of someone else 
No one's story lives alone so we gotta

It hasn't changed since the first one was on the earth 
Dignity and a self image that got some worth 
Goes a long way it's nice to know that you wanted

Looking for some change had a place that was rough 
Mix a lil money and some love now the business up and it's all good

One can only miss the shots that he takes

None of this is new to me 
Same with my grandpa 
You can choose what you believe
I know we don lost a couple geniuses for lack of opportunity 
 all we needed was opportunity
