Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, at a meeting Oct. 2, 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, announced that Chicago had lost its bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. "Chicago, having received the least number of votes, will not participate in the next round." The event would be given to  Rio de Janeiro.
