Steep of the Week 069

The first release on the label is inspired by a recent disruption in our lives. It is about the story of a woman who became known as the Queen of Bethnal Green. The EP is a social warning about the dangers of mephedrone abuse and the message is delivered in  techno  force.  The  music  wants  to  arouse  a  wake  up  call in  the  affected  area  of  East London  and  its new  generation  of  ravers.

Ramiro Lopez drops the electrifying follow up to his ‘Pretending’ EP from May this year. 

For almost a decade, Spain’s Ramiro Lopez has established himself as one his country’s leading proponents of techno, with strong releases across labels that include Suara, Intec, Octopus Recordings and Bedrock. He first debuted on Drumcode in 2016 with the rousing collaborative track ‘Clap Your Hands’ that ranked among one of the label’s standout tracks for the year. With one Drumcode release already under his belt in 2017 and a new label project Odd Recordings with fellow DC cohort Arjun Vagale recently launched, he’s enjoying another strong year.

His return to the label comes in the form of ‘Being Alone’, a powerful trio of cuts, all of which featured in Adam Beyer’s Awakenings Festival Day 1 performance. The title track is a multi-layered weapon, propelled by a dizzying vocal, swirling synth effects and pin-sharp percussion that build toward a smooth classy finish. ‘Dark Science’ is an effective stomper brought to life by a bell chime hookline and undulating synth melody ensuring its peak-time prowess. ‘Der Raum’ rounds out the EP, highlighted by Lopez’s deft drum work, proceeded by a driving, euphoric climax.

H-Productions is the longstanding label from Stockholm starman Cari Lekebusch that dates it’s launch back to 1986, which is an incredible longevity in anyone’s book.

The latest two tracker is brought to you by veteran producer Mattias Fridell, a previous mix guest (DTMIXS14) of Death Techno and fellow Swede, who has released his killer tracks on the likes of Gynoid Audio, Affin, Sonntag Morgen, Labrynth to name only a few.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the second track titled “Aklamera” that is floor focused with jacking techno at its core. The punchy, raw sounds have a familiar analogue feel that instantly bring the cool factor, and where a combination of gritty stabs keep it sounding fresh throughout. The woman featured on the cover of this sixth Proletarijat release is the nurse Milja Marin. This was a household portrait in Partisan circles, called Kozarcanka - “woman from Kozara”. After the war, Milja said she had very little to smile about, nor did she want to carry a rifle. But she did it anyway. Our struggle thus demands, as the old Partisan song tells us.    

With this release, Sev Dah continues to celebrate those who dedicated their lives fighting fascism. Two old-school techno beasts as a nod to those who came before us, finishing with a futuristic space-traveller on the B-side as a reminder that the fight never ends.

A fascinating, vibrant new artist, frequenting the outer realms of post punk, industrial, techno, you-name-it and has a plethora of releases on cd, vinyl, digital and even cassette tape format to date on labels like Sonic Groove, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Ant-zen, and Total Black.

C12 is a multidisciplinary nightclub and platform run by the Deep in House collective, located in the heart of Brussels. It's a safe place where freedom, diversity, creativity and alternative culture are protected from the restrictive and normative outside world. The project was launched in February 2018 and includes concerts, art installations, lives, club nights and exhibitions.

The Corona crisis is keeping our doors closed and dancefloor empty for several weeks now, with no hopes yet on new line-ups and crowds of enthusiastic dancers. But this unprecedented situation isn’t holding us still. Continuing to support our local Brussels and Belgian electronic music scene, C12 is proud to announce its own label with 10 music compilations dubbed Social Distancing. All artists involved are Belgian or strongly connected to the Brussels scene. Confirmed are Le Motel, Stellar OM Source, A.Brehme, Front De Cadeaux, Davy, OCB Casa Voyager, Cabasa, Techno Thriller, Orphan Swords, Different Fountains, Bear Bones Lay Low, Gols, Hadone, ... and our residents Session 4000, Kafim & Chris Ferreira. Compilations will also be curated by female artists promoting platform ‘Psst Mlle’ and queer culture collective ‘Benediction’.  

Each edition consists of a collection of several tracks and will be released every two weeks, leading to a total of approximately fifty tracks. All music will be available to add on your favorite streaming service Soundcloud, Youtube, Spotify (coming soon) and Bandcamp. In addition for each track we offer a limited amount of 500 free downloads through our Bandcamp page, where donations are also enabled for those who wish to support us and the artists involved.
