Reflex is the unstoppable duo, based in the south of France, who erupted on the scene early 2012 with debut single ‘Wavering’ (and its ecstatic JBAG remix), a song one can only cherish fondly, just like priceless memories. Indie-dance? Electro-rock? Discopop? Who cares? You can hear influences, conscious or not, Chilly Gonzales, Italians Do It Better, Aeroplane, the synth pop classics and more… yet Reflex’s music claims nothing more than spreading balearic love for the soul… and the bodies on the dancefloor.

Yet Ludmila & André aren’t about reviving the 70s nor the 80s. If anything the past decades inspire them to be challenging, show that electronic music can still be exciting by offering people songs and emotions that aren’t simply formulaic. Ultimately their desired Mediterranean lifestyle, the sun, the sea… have only but galvanized their inspiration. The pair can’t get away from the studio, writing and remixing non-stop (they’ve lately given the Reflex touch to Black Strobe, Juveniles, Continental’s Shindu and Kill The Hero…). Always on the move, gigging or deejaying in clubs and festivals alike, they’ve just completed a 10 dates US tour which included SXSW, L.A., Vegas… and culminated in Hawaii.

As a result of all those late night outs, Reflex have decided to hit the dancefloor hard for their second single. ‘Together’ is gospel music according to The Haçienda’s evangelism – big piano breakdowns, hands-in-the-air, sweaty smiles abound… and the lead vocal celebrating the night away and beautiful newfound friendships. Dare we say housey? Oui, but à la Mancunian with a French twist please.

‘Together (Remix!)’ the second EP comes with four new exciting reinterpretations. First on the bill needing no introduction are Punks Jump Up who deliver one of their trademark dancefloor-slayers. Joe and Dave have got the TR 808 and 909 out for a deep yet muscular re-rub that will please the big room jocks out there. Second is Oxford, Continental’s latest protégé who might as well be dubbed mr vibey for turning out such gorgeous reworks (check his remix of Shindu ‘Just Go’ on Continental last year or his fab take on Goldroom ft Cheetah ‘Fifteen’). More to come soon from this stylish Gallic disco dude… Next is another solitary producer, the one and only Tronik Youth who - never scared of challenges and pushing the envelope further - takes a chuggy almost US house turn complete with quirky Steve Silk Hurley saxophones. Last but not least Los Angeles’ Colour Vision – a name to watch - delivers a truly yummy mix to be sipped by the pool, ideal for late night partying during tropical heatwaves.

Go on treat yourself and your audience, pick your fave ‘Together’ remix and watch those smiles on the floor. Summers were designed for such tunes…

Today - 21st January 2014 - we bestow upon you a gift, a completely new piece of music from the Vaults of the Digitalism Music bunker in Hamburg called ’Fahrenheit 32!’ Available exclusively for you to play, download, share, burn, cut to vinyl, edit, remix, bootleg, mash-up, the options are endless.

‘Fahrenheit 32’ marks a new direction for us both musically and creatively. It’s not just a milestone on a long journey of ours, but also a peace offering for what’s about to come. In 2014 we want to let the music and creative side of our work take the forefront of our image, which unfortunately means that you will be seeing a less personable version of us, especially in light of how much time we will spend in the studio. We chose this route because for the first time, in a long time, we found ourselves in one of the most creative periods of our career. Over the past months we have been writing music for ourselves and also for other artists, we remixed and re-edited our peers and DJ’ed some of the best shows throughout our 10 year career. So it seems fitting to let all of this have a face and image of its own, whilst our own faces are busy programming, sequencing and staring into computer screens. 

‘Fahrenheit 32’ represents the start of this new creative era, so please treasure this music and enjoy it as much as we did making and playing it, as well as hearing it on BBC Radio 1, Triple J and KCRW in the last few days. It’s a moment in time, our time - 2014.

"Anyone that knows me, knows that my main passion is music. I spend all day listening to music at work and my vinyl collection of 16k pieces greets me when I get home. I knew about Ghostly International before they contacted me in the early 2000’s and we would write off and on. They used to send me big packages of white labeled vinyl, it was decadent.

Late 2007 I got a call from Ghostly asking if I was up for designing a new single for Dabrye. It was a dream come true and I feel like I found a friend who really understood me. I have had the distinct privilege to design over 100 covers for Ghostly, and that is only the half of it.

When they asked me to do a compilation, I was all about it. I wanted to do three or more compilations because I wanted to segment it up into different sections (Ghostly, SMM and Spectral). It is impossible to reduce the entire label to 15 tracks. Ghostly is dynamic, they don’t fit one sound, genre or idea.

So I approached it as a mixtape of sorts. I tried to find a common thread that spoke to me and create a mood around that idea. Some of my favorite tracks are not on here. JDSY 'Horizon Line' makes my head spin. Choir of Young Believers 'Paralyse' takes me to another place. There are so many more.

What you are hearing some songs that have spoken to me over the years in a distinct way. I don’t feel like they are obvious choices but they all are nothing short of amazing. I hope this compilation helps you see a different side of one of the best labels to ever do it." - Michael Cina
