Clandestino’s own Nick J. Smith breaks ranks for a solo outing on the label, setting hearts aflutter with three balmy kaleidoscopic cuts. Each track is forged in ideas from the classic dream house era between 1988-’91; evoking the halcyon period’s sense of hope and positivity yet presented in a modern lustre for today’s dance-floors.

‘You Make Me Feel’ has tight crisp drums to underpin heavenly keys, woozy pads and choral voice stabs. Breese fleshes out the classic house feels even further with his Frankie Knuckles style emotive piano-led groove. ‘Gets Me High’ takes a deeper path, with its infectious bell melodies and sparkling chords driving the spirit along. Clandestino jack the energy levels with their edgier, acid take. Racing drums set out a moodier atmosphere, the tension swelling and eventually popping as the originals stuttering keys are finally brought in.  ‘Can’t Stop’ closes out in a dreamy style; swirling pads and cool organ touches combine with a seductive vocal to trance you out. 
This is a package that chimes with longer days and warmers nights, as the darkness begins to fade and pastel coloured skies draw near.

We decided to contact all the artists that we came across in 5 years, whether they released on the label or not, and asked them for demos!

The quality of stuff we received was so brilliant that we moved from releasing a digital-only compilation to a vinyl record!

We are super pleased to introduce you to 8 tracks by 8 brilliant producers hailing from Tel Avi, Paris, London, Leipzig and Munich.

8 man, 8 definitions of electronic music but 1 common sound, Burnin Music.

To compliment the music we asked Theo Cerri, a talented Italian artist living in Edinburg, to design the cover.

We've been big fans of Leftside Wobble's 'Acid Soul' series, so we are delighted to have him put together a mix for us. Here are some words from him regarding his mix for us:

"Leftside Classics is a retrospective featuring some of the tracks that have meant the most to me over the last five years or so. These are the tracks that somehow always find a way back into my sets, tracks that rise above the transient and tracks that defy limiting genre pigeonholes. My sets have always been about joining the dots, celebrating the eclectic and supporting those tracks that exist in the rich hinterland between dub, funk, disco and house. Hopefully this retrospective captures that overriding ethos.

I've included a small selection of unreleased LW bits and a few exclusive versions of well known staples to keep things pushing forward too.

Scotland has long been a hot bed for underground electronic music; they really know their stuff up there and plying their trade longer than most are respected DJs and promoters Steve Cass & Justin Wilson with their No Strings Attached parties. Now in their 20th year the list of guests appearing alongside them is endless and the longevity of NSA is down to them constantly pushing their sound and bringing back the artists they personally like to hear. Based in Galashiels, south of Edinburgh the duo use a small basement in their local football club with a capacity of only 120. Guests have included Andrew Weatherall, Slam, Ivan Smagghe and Justin Robertson and they have also hosted numerous parties in the Scottish capital including A Love From Outer Space.  NSA never stick to one genre expect; anything from weird disco to techno and the odd classic thrown in with this fine mix for us.

And so we come to our 100th episode. We have been lucky enough to have showcased some incredible mixes since we started; it's truly been a pleasure to feature established guests as well as giving a platform to lesser known names. For this milestone mix we always had a particular guest in mind and we're more than honoured they agreed to be a part of the series. Optimo's musical ethos bleeds into the way we approach all our musical endeavours, be it a club night, DJ set, the label or indeed a mix series. We often find ourselves difficult to explain musically, which in this day & age of everything having to sit in its own box can on occasion be a source of frustration. But then when you look at Optimo who constantly and succesfully champion just great music who cares about genres. It's a mantra that's hopefully mirrored across our mix series. This year Keith and Jonnie enter their 20th year with Optimo; more relevant than ever with their exciting, eclectic DJ performances around the globe. Keith's two labels Optimo Music and Optimo Trax are garnered to shining a light on new and unusual music both for the club and beyond. Ethereal pads ease us above the clouds, then as the kick gradually takes over we are slowly but surely pulled back down to earth. As the sub bass enters the fray, our feet are firmly on the ground treading a familiar four four groove; reminiscent of the bleep/warp days of Sheffield and the skipping snares of Renegade Soundwaves 'Thunder.' In an almost pitch black warehouse, a solitary green laser skits across raised hands and swirling strawberry scented smoke. Spacious repeated melodies scatter in and out of the ethereal pads and cavernous sub bass give us a sense of hope to a better future.

Started as a local music community Serenades became a hotspot involving dozens of international musicians and DJs with podcasts and parties. True aficionados of music which lay between ethnic and electronic, Serenades have created a real oasis in Russian snow.  In 2019 Serenades continue their story with the first ever release – a big & eclectic compilation where every track is exclusively produced for the label concept by musicians from all over the world.  Shamanic ambient, percussive drums, slow industrial beats from the compilation clearly represent Serenade’s taste in contemporary world music.

If that isn't enough Crazy P's irrepressible Danielle Moore is drafted in to drop the sass all over it like only she can.  Sometimes a little fun is needed in music, this has got it in spades.

New York's Wolf+Lamb stable have long held a solid reputation for representing a laidback style of classy dance-music by a tight knit group of DJs and  producers that include of Soul Clap, No Regular Play, Deniz Kurtel, Slow Hands, Voices of Black and friends. Their latest offering hail from Northern Italy's underground scene in Italian and Ghanaian duo Lowheads. Their upcoming LP 'After Tokyo' is a joyous ride through italo, funk, disco, afrobeat and Chicago house. Today we premiere 'In This Moment' from the album, a glorious slice of modern funk that gets underway with an extended looping arpeggio intro and teasing vocal stabs before the electro-style drums drop in to break the tension. A female-male vocal duet gives the track a pop sensibility that glides dreamily over an infectious bassline. Simply irresistible.

Nick Smith breaks cover from the sanctuary of his Clandestino guise and makes a long-over due, yet welcome return to his solo project as he delivers a humid, intoxicating EP for Phil Cooper's NuNorthern Soul outfit. 'Waves Take Hold' consists of three atmospheric recordings that richly mine influences from early Nineties utopian Iberian dance-floors to far away exotic islands. Here we spotlight the breezy 'Palm Cove'; languid hand drums marry with gentle marimbas as Nick's love of New Age motifs come to the fore. Delicate strings sit in the background while subtle field recordings add to the genteel atmosphere, perfectly capturing the ambiance. A summer highlight for sure.

In homage to the infamous post rave meet up that exists on the fringes Tisno’s famed festival site Forriner have produced an emotive summer house anthem for the ages. ‘Meet Me At Burgerellas’ is built on tear jerking strings, clever piano hooks and a chest thumping bass riff that all hangs together over super tight, punchy drums. Label stewards Clandestino pick up the house baton and run wild with it, initially going for a deeper vibe until letting rip with firing 909 drums and heady arps. Their slower ‘Sunrise’ take is a more contemplative affair, dropping the beats completely letting the strings breathe and soar while adding subtle fluttering keys and dawn break pianos. ‘The Cat & Dog Stairs’ is aching for open air dance-floors with its genial, atmospheric synths and melodic feel. A polished house track dripping with style. Longhair stick to the summery brief by turning out a shimmering mid-tempo house rework; it’s lush keys sparkling over an infectious bassline conjuring up images of the sun glinting off the sea.

Glasgow’s Ali Herron has long been a mark of quality with his OOFT! moniker. Originally running the L.E.S.S. Productions imprint alongside The Revenge, with excursions onto labels such as Instruments of Rapture, Delusions of Grandeur and Wolf Music Ali’s steady stream of solid output moves deftly between slo-mo disco and classic house sounds. It’s the latter style that infects his Clandestino EP. Rich, lush Detroit flecked textures, sun dappled reflective cuts and soaring emotive house music all combine for a wonderfully warm EP fit for an array of moods. Clandestino don their night and day hats with their remixes, turning out both a slightly more energised take and a blissed out version respectively.

We've not seen or heard too much from Glasgow man Ali 'OOFT!' Herron in a little while, so we were happy to lay eyes on this, his forthcoming EP for the Clandestino crew.

Having released a steady stream of high-grade underground club sounds – ranging in style and tone from slow-motion disco to organic sounding house – OOFT! first came to our attention over a decade ago, with outings on Delusions of Grandeur and Instruments of Rapture, as well as the L.E.S.S. Productions label he ran with The Revenge. He's also graced the rosters of labels including Wolf Music and Quintessentials, Midnight Riot, and his own FOTO imprint.

He has a knack for capturing an infectious hook and has turned-out a selection of essential edits over the years, but here he delves deep into realms of emotive, classic-sounding house with a delicately varied EP.

There's a distinctively retrospective essence to the entire EP, which wouldn't have sounded out of place in the '90s golden era, alongside the output of Pacific Records and the like. Opener 'Reclaim Landscape' is a blissful sunrise jam, it's staccato acid line providing the steady core around which emotive pads soar and hypnotic spoken-word vocal permeates. 'Obligatory Consumption' retains the lush atmospheric texture but has a more urgent feel, upping the tempo and adding a Detroit-influenced chord progression to take it further into club territory.

El Clinico Magnifico' is the most mellow of all the original versions here, gently chugging along as ethereal waves swell and subside. On '21 Processes' the emotive feel continues, rich but melancholy pads rise over a rubber band bass and crisp drum programming, with snappy snares adding energy over the evolving melodies.

Balearic leaning housers Clandestino complete the package by offering up a pair of lovingly crafted remixes of 'Reclaim Landscape'. The first version stays true to the essence of the original, unfolding over a lively arrangement adding a respectable rave break and organ stabs to the repurposed acid part. The 'Beach Version' drops the tempo and pulls the drums right back to deliver a super-chilled ambient excursion, introducing the track into purely horizontal realms.

Clandestino have been involved in Leeds' underground music scene for over 20 years; regularly throwing diverse parties and inviting exciting DJ talent. Their esoteric style of dance music has gained them gigs at some of Europe’s premier club spots such as Renate in Berlin, Stalingrad in Paris, Geneva’s La Graviere and Powerhouse in Moscow in addition to being regular fixtures on the discerning festival circuit.
