The Vendetta Suite (@vendetta-suite) is one of Belfast's most seasoned producers, often spotted serving up dubbed out sounds on Italian Hell Yeah! Recordings. Having cut his teeth as engineer for the legendary David Holmes, his ability to turn heads in the studio comes as no surprise. 🌙

Here he contributes two hours of pre-summer bliss, with obscure 80's and modern balearic influenced goodness giving us a glimmer of optimism for a return to dancing in the open air. 💛

DC Promo Tracks #707: A Vision Of Panorama "Chords for Gourmets"

As the world and its wife tries to board the last plane out of 2020, Eclectics rolls up with a charter flight big enough to ferry all-comers to Shangri-La. The Oh! EP, from Ibiza-based Italian producer Luca Averna and legendary British veteran Chris Coco, is 35 minutes of delightful, deep-dive distraction from a world gone mad.

This isn’t simply a collection of tunes sitting cheek-by-jowl with their remixes, this is a soaring suite – a movement in five parts put together with care, confidence and consummate craft.

First up on the in-flight entertainment is “There Is No Planet B”. Despite the distress-signal sentiment of the title, it’s an audio hug of breathy synths, languorous lead lines and slow, whirling propeller percussion. A mid-paced reminder that we really are all in this together, the melodic flow coalesces midway through, giving directions to the dance.

The Veteran Delinquents (Joe’s Bakery and Passport to Paradise stalwart Craig Christon along with producer Tim Hutton) pick up the baton and increase the momentum like veteran DJs reading the room. Their remix follows on seamlessly from the original, bigging up the boogie with handclaps, piano and a beat that channels electro and new wave New York.

Next up is Jazxing (The Very Polish Cut-Outs/ Transatlantyk), who find another gear and chug straight ahead – full steam in widescreen. Increasing the bandwidth even further they throw in guitar licks and percussive punctuation, forcing the familiar melody into bold new territory.

And suddenly, there you are, in the middle of a four-to-the-floor groove for discerning dancers after a journey so smooth you couldn’t even feel the corners.

As the bass peters out, title track “Oh!” blossoms into view, building slowly, layers lapping over each other, gentle yet steady, fragile but with a firm foothold. The pace has quickened, but the pin-perfect pacing means you don’t realise until you’re halfway in and committed to the ride. Oh! indeed…

Then, the final act. Once again, Eclectics frequent flier James Bright tales the controls and banks away beautifully from the original, leading you into territory littered with broken beats, rippling synths and an afro-infused groove. This is all played out against a gentle backdrop, a watercolour wash of sound that smooths the flightpath, tempers the turbulence and joins the dots between guitar flourishes and snare snaps.   You have reached your destination. Enjoy.

Following hot on the heels of Laroye’s Be The Change, the label offer another heartwarming release, this time from Brooklyn-based artist Greg Paulus. Perhaps better known as one half of No Regular Play, Greg has appeared on labels as diverse as Soul Clap, Let’s Play House, Ghostly International and Kompakt.
For the City Movements EP Greg has delivered three brilliant originals which showcase his talents as a trumpet player, vocalist and producer.

Hell Yeah welcomes the red hot pairing of Tuccillo and Willie Graff for a new four track EP that includes 'Gliding', as heard on the recent Buena Onda compilation. This is a serious serving for real DJs only.

Willie Graff & Tuccillo have been cooking up their delicious deep house dishes for more than a decade now on labels like Finale Sessions, Freerange and Circus Company. Tuccillo is also behind the Balearic Gabba classic 'Solo un Delay', and Graff - a born and bred White Isle native, who is also a long time cohort of Kenneth Bager`s Music For Dreams - is the youngest person to ever have a residency at the legendary Pacha nightclub. They have a rich sound palette that gets all horizontal and Mediterranean across these four fresh new tracks.

Day Side opener 'Crystal Ball' has a nimble bassline and bouncing kicks that get you on your toes while the lush synths do a playful dance up top. The excellent 'Gliding' track from the Buena Onda compilation is a super go slow anthem with scuffed up claps and lazy kicks that take you on a real trip far out to sea.

Flip on the Night Side and 'The Moment' picks up the pace, exploring late night deep house with a melodic air, distant whistles and subtle acid sounds that make for a tropical beach rave. Last of all, 'Tic Tac' is six minutes of dreamy rhythmic bliss, with delicate drums and new age ambiance washing over you like a cooling Azure breeze.

These are classy DJ weapons for those who know.
