"Some time ago, I'd shared 50 House tracks with Moskalus from Ostrava, Czech Republic. He picked 21 tracks and the result was this absolute gem of a mix that sums up everything nice about House music.

Starting warm, the mix very quickly takes a wild turn and will leave you yearning for more by the end of it. Lo-Fi House fans in particular, will love this mix.

At the age of 12 he was already moving in the right circles, befriending Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy whilst frequenting the famous Warehouse. His upbringing in Chicago in the 70s and 80s meant that he was exposed to a range of genres and different styles of music including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Curtis Mayfield and David Huff. These same names would prove to be the roots of his influences.

A tally of successful hit records, remixing and collaborations resulted in his talents being sought by artists like The Pet Shop Boys, Derrick May, Angel Abi, Paul Johnson and Mr Lee. He has also worked with Larry Heard & Robert Owens, Dave Angel, Tjen Tjen, Felix Da Housecat and Will Smith.

Dan has been involving himself with many different projects and crews since 2012. 
He has co-founded Live Presents, an event with the sole intention to provide underground electronic dance music, played live. 
He is also the co-founder of Sixthsense, a psychedelic and progressive techno and prog house night with a focus on heightening all 5 physical senses.
He has played to dance floors including Revolver for the Red Moon Tribe takeover, for Renegade at My Aeon and he opened the Bush Techno Stage at Esoteric this year.

The Lost Playground Radio #3 - Dan Abel

I will always remember this set. The first of the decade on NYD with a super grooving engaged dance floor @ my beloved Wildwood!

This is a fitting share for me, as its been 8 months since my last set I released from Modem Festival, and this is really representative of my current approach to life. Light hearted fun, yet at times a serious adventure, all while pushing the creative envelope. 

This is a short one as due to the fires all our set times got squashed, but was grateful to get to play.

The space we created at Wildwood allowed for true expression and I find myself flowing through genres a lot more than anywhere else.

Reflective of my journey this year, at times we dance with childlike play and at times we need to focus on the task at hand.

This was never going to be shared, but hey, I dont know when my next gig is, so I hope you can find some fun in here. I am looking forward to getting back onto a real dancefloor soon! This set features elements of music from every decade since the 80s. 

My challenge to you is to chuck on some headphones, turn it up and clean your house while boogying to the grooves, see what you can get done in this journey.

JOOF Sessions 006 - Ambient. 

As you know I’ve been trying to add different flavours to each weeks JOOF Sessions gatherings, this week we’re going to do something different and play an ambient set. For those who have experienced my open to close sets you’ll already know I open the evening with some ambient vibes, this not only creates anticipation for the night ahead but is also the roots of the DJ you know John 00 Fleming. Ambient music is the roots of how it all started for me and what got me fascinated with electronic music in the 80’s and still today influences the JOOF sound. 
These are tracks that I regularly play at home, full rich sounds, dreamy and hypnotic, they are very powerful and stimulate new parts of your mind. We’re all going through difficult times at the moment, though we’re getting stronger each week, we still have those bolt of lightening reality checks of the world situation. I want this session to put you in a different mindset to take you away from everything, to give us hope, happiness and appreciate everything around us. Music is a very powerful healing tool and something I turn to all the time. I’m going to leave the camera pointed down because being honest with you, many of these tracks bring me to tears, but in a good way. Many people are holding mass pressure on their shoulders at the moment and not released tears yet, I hope this offers a release for you, you’ll feel better after. 
 Keep this set for years to come, and it will make you smile. I’ll also make a Spotify playlist of this too after and keep adding to it.

Across the ‘Street Rave EP’ McVicar marries Chicago inflected raw house sounds with an unmistakable UK rave slant throughout. From the buoyant combination of undulating bass and a rich palette of synths, stabs and vocal drops, the title track is just under six minutes of earworming hooks. ‘Dorian’ is a tougher, more clipped affair with a stomping, acid-inflected groove doing the work while closing track sees McVicar team up with fellow Scot Roose for a no-holds-barred workout which fuse 4:4 UK hardcore to a rock-solid house beat.

Overall streaming traffic is down for everyone down due to the mass volume of streaming out there, and as I’m seeing personally traffic is rocketing on my podcasts and Soundcloud as its much easier for people to listen again in their own time. For as long as this world situation hangs around, I’ll keep doing these live sessions as I love the feeling of us all gathering together for that one united weekly intimate party, gives me a feeling of those small underground dark clubs that we like to party at together…and WILL again soon.

I promised to take you down the rabbit hole this week, plenty of deep dark pounding hypnotic moments. As you know I took a small step away from the Turbo side to let me rediscover something more fresh, original and forward thinking and you’re now starting to get a small taste of what’s coming and where I’m heading. There’s more work to be done, but that power side of me is itching to come out, but as and when it does, I want it to blow you away into the sonic future and experience something you’ve never heard or felt before. Thats always been the ethos behind what I do, the DJ you know, the JOOF sound. Without your trust, your openness all this wouldn’t be possible to let me unleash sets just like you heard in JOOF Sessions. 

Unlike in clubs where I can see your reactions, I can’t sitting at home/studio. I’ve learned over these few weeks to not look at the comments as I just want to end up chatting with you all (😀) and I need to keep focussed unfolding my musical journey. Please let me know your thoughts as its the only way I get feedback.
