London based producer Gray’s rise to prominence within Drum & Bass is nothing short of astounding. The DJ and Producer cut his teeth on the underground circuit of unlicensed raves and free parties, but now plays the biggest Drum & Bass parties around the world, such as the main stages of Boomtown, Warehouse Project and Printworks. Showcasing a fiercely up-front and dynamic production capability, his amalgamation of styles fuse to form a truly deadly combination for any dance. 

Infatuated with music from an early age, Gray's first flashpoint can be traced to a family friend introducing him to seminal records from dubstep pioneers Caspa & Rusko, most notably their Fabriclive 37. Immediately obsessed with these otherworldly and ineffable sounds, Gray found himself hooked, and the expansive realm of dance music had opened its gates, and with it, his journey as a producer began. Attending his first rave at 13, Gray's early immersion into UK soundsystem and rave culture moulded his tastes and expertise perfectly for a career as an artist. He built a reputation across the capital's illicit musical underbelly performing at squats and raves, incorporating his myriad of influences to carve out a distinctive sonic identity. Gray soon set his sights on Bristol at 18, as he sought to further immerse himself in the drum & bass hotbed, and take the next step in his career. 

Soon after moving out west, Gray swiftly caught the eye of Born On Road who immediately identified the talent at Gray's disposal. Expanding his reputation as a DJ at illegal raves across the south-west, Gray soon found himself performing frequently at Bristolian staples Lakota and The Black Swan as well as making his debut at the legendary Boomtown Fair’s Tangled Roots stage. Through these early performances Gray carved out an exemplary reputation as one of the fastest rising talents on the circuit and with his dubs akin to gold-dust, it’s no mystery as to why. 

His debut solo EP ‘Rubadub’ took the young producer to dizzying new heights, with seminal hits One Spliff and Rubadub inescapable for the eardrums at raves across the globe amassing millions upon millions of streams. He now has a myriad of wildly successful releases under his belt from liquid bangers like ‘Twilight’ with A Little Sound to underground stompers such as ‘The Preacher' which just further showcase his versatility as an artist. A truly distinguished DJ, and one with an impeccable track record of igniting any dancefloor. His molten production and signature mixing ability have rendered him a favourite for both fans and artists alike. This monolith success led to his nomination as ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 2020 Drum & Bass Arena Awards and it’s clear the sky’s the limit for the young talent. With plenty more music to come, be sure to keep your ears to the ground as Gray is only warming up.

Reggae and Jungle are genres of music with strong roots in the UK and Aries has immersed himself in both cultures which has heavily influenced his whole ethos to production and DJing. It is this integrity and dedication to the scene which has earned him respect amongst his peers meaning he now flies the flag internationally for modern day sound-system culture.

Aries’ sound combines vintage Jungle sensibilities with traditional Reggae music polished off with modern day production techniques. The finished product is his own Dubwise strain of the UK’s one true homegrown genre, Jungle.

He broke through to the A-list of the Jungle world after releasing music on legendary record labels: Congo Natty, Dread and V Recordings, plus Aries has recorded with a whole world of vocal talent that does by no means stop at Top Cat, David Boomah, Solo Banton, Nanci &amp; Phoebe, Demolition Man, Jah Mason and Johnny Osbourne. His DJing is in demand across the globe having played high profile DJ sets in most major countries.

Back in 1990, Aries launched himself onto Pirate Radio in his hometown of Birmingham where Reggae and underground Dance music were dominating the airwaves. This is where he learned his craft as a DJ. He then promoted himself to throwing parties and finally graduated to the recording studio where he has been creating music ever since.

Aries’ projects vary from his solo exports to collaborations with other producers from Gold Dubs and Kelvin 373 to the Chopstick Dubplate crew, which is the world’s first international Reggae Jungle sound crew which is fronted by himself, Jacky Murda and Tuffist. Recently, he has also been touching on other projects from Hip Hop to Dubstep which all tell an ode of his roots.

Within the reputedly closed doors of the Jungle Drum &amp; Bass world, true support is carried by your peers and it is they who validate your career. Aries has been met with open arms by figureheads of the scene. In the mainstream, Aries receives radio play from BBC’s Toddla T, Zane Lowe, Rob Da Bank and DJ Hype plus his Youtube views reach the millions. This is all from one of the most humble people you are likely to meet in the music business.

It is undoubtedly true that Aries will continue his ongoing plight to serve the world true grassroots Dubwise Jungle dubplates. Whether it be releasing his own music, collaborating on projects or running record labels, Aries will be pushing the sound that he loves.
