Igor Stravinsky - Le Sacre du printemps
Igor Stravinsky was a Russian composer who lived in Paris. He had success with his ballet the firebird and was asked to write another ballet for the Ballets Russes in Paris. He always dreamed of writing a ballet in which a primitive ritual would stand in the center. 
It’s premiere was on the 29th of may in 1913, the choreographer Vaslav Nijinski made a very ‘square’ and difficult dance for the performers to match the music. An actual riot happened, people were angry, others loved it and there were even people fighting because of the different opinions. The police had to come in and calm the place down. At the end there was some applause but definitely a lot of booing. 
Stravinsky went to Switzerland shortly after the premiere to recover from a bad fever. After living for some years in France, he moved to the United States and lived there until he died in 1971. 

Henriette Bosmans - Sonata in a minor for cello and piano

Henriette Bosmans (1895-1925) was a Dutch composer and pianist, she lived in Amsterdam her whole life. She composed many pieces which were premiered by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. They had a very close connection, not just because she was a great composer but also because her father used to play the cello in the orchestra. Unfortunately he died when Henriette was just a few months old. 
Henriette kept making music during the 2nd world war and after the war she wrote 2 pieces connected to the grieving and also the hope of rebuilding and recovering. ‘Doodenmarsch’ and ‘Lead Kindly light’. After she wrote pieces for piano and voice and gave many concerts.

Frieda Belinfante (1904-1995) was a celebrated cellist and conductor, for some years the two women lived together until they broke up. Frieda went to the United States after the war, where she had a flourishing career as conductor.
