Last May, we launched Clasico with ‘Touch’, an EP by Miami’s Coffintexts and our very first release. 17 months and five releases on, we’re back in business together.

Since releasing ‘Touch’ last year, Coffintexts’ star has only risen. She’s toured the world, her music’s been in rotation with everyone from Overmono and Mall Grab to Ben UFO and Pariah, and she’s fleshed out her catalogue in every direction: who else can say they’ve released on both Florentino’s Club Romantico and Chris Lake’s Black Book labels? This is real ‘girl who can do both’ shit.

This new release is the first in a pair of Coffintexts two-trackers scheduled for release on Clasico in the coming months. A-side ‘Todo Mi Cuerpo’ continues to hone and develop the musical language that Coffintexts has made her own in recent years: Latin percussion, pumping sub and dubby FX narrated by her own hypnotic vocals. B-side ’88 ST’ meanwhile takes things a little harder: it’s Coffintexts in her dark garage bag, womps and all. Atmospheric 2003 vibes on this one, in the best possible way.

In Coffintexts' words: "I love this pair grouped together. They're both different, yet they emphasize and enhance one another". Slinky, sexy and slamming club music from one of the most exciting dance scenes in the world? That’s Coffintexts’ MO — and so many ways, that’s Clasico’s too.

I’ve spent the last months figuring out a direction I want to take my sound and the common theme has been Bass, for some strange reason I just gravitate to the lows man. This mix is an introduction to my new sound  “Freebass”, a sound system exploring Bass music from around the world. The idea  for this mix is to start with liquid bass so you can hear a bit of Electro, minimal Techno , GhettoTek and acid Foot work (Strictly 140BPM and up). Coffintexts – Todo Mi Cuerpo

Coffintexts makes it a perfect hat-trick with her third release for Clasico – a submarine-deep pair of tracks from our regular Miami correspondent.

A sequel of sorts to last autumn’s ‘Todo Mi Cuerpo’ / ’88 ST’, these new tracks dial down the tempo but turn up the atmosphere. “It’s deeper, and dreamier than the last two tracks I released on Clasico,” she says. “Felt right to follow up with something along those lines.”

A-side ‘Mas Fina’ steps out with dubbed-out vocals, sonar bleeps and stuttering snares - club music for the bottom of the ocean, or at least for that moment in the night when everything feels a bit detached from gravity. It’s one of those tracks that feels simple on the surface, but reveals extra detail and submerged layers with every play.

B-side ‘Vamos Al Club’ ups the pressure: it’s Coffintexts in pumper mode again, with pitch-shifted hats, cheeky woodblocks and a wriggling bassline made for fogged-out rooms. Vocals come from fellow Miami resident Le Poodle. “I made the beat first, then reached out to Natalie to see if she had any vocals lying around. I chopped up some of the recordings she sent, and boom – it sat perfectly on the beat. Love her voice.”

The pair first crossed paths through mutual friends Paperwater back in 2017. At the time, Alex and some other local artists would pull all-nighters in Airbnbs and studios around Miami for makeshift writing and beat sessions – and you can hear that ease and chemistry woven into these tracks.

As for where these tracks belong? “Like 4-5am in a medium fogged out room – could be a club, a house party, even a Getty" (that's a get-together for the uninitiated). "Everything washed in a soft red light. Everyone’s still dancing, it’s that in-between moment where the night’s turning into morning.”

“These two beats are meant to capture a feeling. A moment that felt right in the studio. I’m excited to share it, and see how it connects with people.”
