High Groovin Sessions Best Of 23 Part II

Two deep and soulful UK house aficionados, KingCrowney and Jimpster unite on The Remedy Project featuring vocals from LEGZDINA. KingCrowney is widely regarded for his work as a trumpeter, recording and touring with MOBO and Brit Award winning collective Rudimental ever since UK number one ‘Feel The Love’. As such, lively jazz influences often pervade the London producer’s smooth releases, who now teams up with Freerange Records and Delusions of Grandeur founder Jimpster; the revered UK DJ’s discography of deep house extends back to the late 90s, with his informed sets pulling in house heads ever since those seminal releases. ‘The Back’ combines the two artists propensity for the golden era of house into one, slick Remedy Project release, featuring spoken-word vocals from mother of poetry LEGZDINA – a Latvian artist whose idiosyncratic style has led to collaborations with Idris Elba, lau.ra and Bianca Oblivion on Jamz Supernova’s label Future Bounce, with an EP incoming on Three Six Zero in Spring 2024.

The city's temperature hovers around 33-34°C, basking in abundant sunlight, a stark contrast to the cooler, more reserved Danish capital.

This episode comes to you a bit earlier than planned, a spontaneous creation fueled by the relaxation and joy of my holiday. The backdrop for today’s session is nothing short of inspiring; perched on the 36th floor, I’m surrounded by breathtaking views of Bangkok's sprawling skyline.

In a few moments, I'll be taking a refreshing dip in the swimming pool located on the 27th floor, where I can enjoy almost the same mesmerizing vista. This unique setting not only elevates my mood but deeply influences the selection and flow of tracks in this episode.

After coming into his element in recent years, Berlin based The Checkup looks to broaden his horizons even further in the coming period. Raphael has become synonymous with energetic house sounds of old and new, maintaining a soulful outlook as he meanders between animated productions, and positive storytelling with his DJ sets, both of which he has received global acknowledgement for.
Whilst traveling around the world he finds himself on a never ending search for rare 90s house records, occupying the dustiest corners of record shops to uncover gems of the past. 2022 was notably the finest year to date for the vinyl enthusiast, he toured South America, played in European hotspots London, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid and Tbilisi and landed frequent action in Berlin at the likes of Sisyphos, Watergate, About Blank and Wilde Renate, the home of the Paradise Garage Hommage parties where he holds a residency, and assists with the bookings. His dynamic US house influenced sound has also seen him showcase his music on the legendary Nervous Records, Large Music, Madhouse, Toy Tonics and Meta to name a few. Bucket list material for the continuously rising French talent, flourishing at an alarming rate.

Whilst balancing all of the above The Checkup continues to propel stellar sounds on his own Heattraxx, a project which has seen him sign the likes of Demuir, Elisa Elisa and Demarkus Lewis, a sought after label collaborating with some of the finest names in house music on a regular occurrence. On a day to day basis he holds down the fort at Beatport as the House curator, a nod of approval for his impeccable taste within the genre, and closely related vibes.

It is to no surprise that in recent years The Checkup has received love and support from some of the most inspiring artists within the scene time and time again. A few artists who recognize the realness are Archie Hamilton, Jamie Jones, Kerri Chandler, Alinka, Ben Rau, Riva Starr, Mark Broom and Honey Dijon, a mixed bag of support marking the true versatility of his productions and personality in the booth, with some of his productions gracing the likes of the Panorama Bar dance floor.

The upward trajectory continues and his grips are firmly tightened on even more prolific years ahead!

Tom Kerridge’s celebrated Girls of the Internet collective returns to Classic with the label’s first ever garage release ‘Gravity’, featuring vocals from Glasgow’s ALLKNIGHT. The success of previous singles on Luke Solomon’s label, ‘Affirmations’, written by Sophie Faith, and ‘Never Ever Ever’, featuring Irish singer-songwriter shiv, cemented the group as authorities in the realm of soulful dance music; one that fits the label’s sound perfectly. The year has already been busy for the group, who in March revealed a remix of legendary producer Moby’s ‘You & Me’ with Anfisa Letyago and sold out a show at The Jazz Café in London. Now unveiling latest single ‘Gravity’ featuring Glaswegian dance vocalist ALLKNIGHT, an artist who has garnered millions of streams across collaborations with rising electronic producers. ‘Gravity’ showcases the upbeat side of the collective’s signature sound; an eclectic amalgamation of Tom’s love of jazz chords and boogie basslines create an electrifying track, underpinned with a UKG beat and spotlighting ALLKNIGHT’s ethereal vocals floating atop.

House #Saladcast 944 - Interstate 55

The Interstate 55 project was born of a friendship between two young French and American students, Alex and Chris, at a warehouse party on the south side of Chicago in 1995. Press correspondents for Coda and Trax Magazine in Paris and Chicago for 3 years, the two boys helped promote the Midwestern sound in Europe, interviewing some of Chicago's biggest legends. The duo also helped book as many Chicago DJs on the Paris scene for public and private parties, and several bookings on major Paris radio stations. 25 years after the best parties, Interstate 55 is back mixing to promote the underground again on SoundCloud since last year, with "the Lake Shore Drive series", and several invitations on the best radio shows. This new set, mixed by Alex for House Saladcast, attempts to recapture the energy of the old mix tapes with a wide variety of tracks, often recent, but sometimes much older.  In a few days' time, Alex and Chris meet again in Chicago. The opportunity to relaunch the Interstate 55 project exactly as it was 25 years ago, promote the underground sound and prepare new musical productions on a new dedicated label.
