This composition was inspired by a series of photographs taken by Helena Whitten at an abandoned hotel, crumbling into neglect.

The strange thing about the cover picture is that I overlooked it many many times when scanning through Helena's work, almost as if it had concealed itself amidst the other images. When I did chance upon it however, the power of the image really resonated with me.

The character crouched behind the door lingers in the mind long after you have stopped looking at the photograph. Who is she? Why is she there? Who is she hiding from? are all questions that remain unanswered but inspire an endless chain of possible narratives.

We also commissioned a truly amazing video by Stefania Buzatu. She specialises in the infinite zoom technique and and she deployed this with Helena's photos to remarkable effect.

I have a new great-grandbaby, Ava, and maybe this will help her sleep on restless nights. Hopefully this gift will stand the test of time long after I'm gone.  I learned not long ago that my grandmother and great-grandmother were both accomplished pianists although I never got to hear them play. My mother played as well. after dinner my sisters and I often stood at the piano and sang while my mother played.  I'm guess that a piano was in the lives of generations further back. I never made a decision to play the piano, I just always knew I would.  Who will be next in my family to carry it on?

Sgurr na Lapaich is a mountain in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. The mountain reaches a height of 1,150 metres (3,773 feet).  There is no higher ground to the north of it in Great Britain.

For harp, classical guitar, marimba, Bansuri flute, field recordings from the Jökulsárlón Galcier Lagoon, percussion and other virtual instruments.
The Jökulsárlón Galcier Lagoon is a large glacial lake in the southern part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland, that developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.  The ice cap, a vast dome of ice, rises to a height of 3,000 ft (910 m).  The icebergs that calve from the glacier edge move towards the river mouth and get entrenched at the bottom. The movement of the icebergs fluctuates with the tide currents, as well as being affected by wind.  These icebergs are seen in two shades: milky white and bright blue, which depends on the air trapped within the ice and is an interplay of light and ice crystals.
