Rushin Steele has never been a fan of anything too mass produced or main stream popular, choosing instead to carve his own path. That is certainly reflected in his music style. Steele's musical approach as a solo artist combines traditional singer/songwriter aesthetics with elements of country , rock and folk. Edgy lyrics about country living , alienation , addiction and lost romance.
Steele kicked around with various bands through the early 90's before co-forming a rebellious Texas band called Hog Legg Ellis in 1999. Hog Legg Ellis opened for bands like Randy Rogers , Reckless Kelly and the late great Rusty Weir and performed all across Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas. The band broke up in late 2005 after releasing only one album.
Various central Texas artist have recorded songs written by Rushin Steele. Sony Music artist Kristin Kelly released 2 albums in her early career that featured his work. Steele also has a song credit on the solo album of Jeremy Lynn Woodall, who is the long time guitarist for songwriting legend Billy Joe Shaver. Rushin also wrote and performed a moving tribute to the victims of the West Fertilizer plant explosion in April of 2013. The song was featured on a compilation CD that helped raise money to rebuild a local park.
　
Rushin Ray Steele was born in Waco, Texas into a family with deep roots in the State of Texas. He's a direct descendant of Alfonso Steele, whose portrait hangs at the State Capital in Austin, Texas. Alfonso was a soldier under Sam Houston's command and noted pioneer of Texas.
