When Your Love Is Safe (Classixx Remix) - Active Child

Friendly Fires are an English dance punk band from St Albans, Hertfordshire. They are currently signed to XL Recordings. Their self-titled debut album was released on 1 September 2008[1] and was announced as one of the shortlisted twelve for the 2009 Mercury Prize on 21 July 2009.
Friendly Fires met at St Albans School. At age 14, the members formed their first band, a post-hardcore outfit called First Day Back[3][4] which existed until they began university. During this time lead singer Ed Macfarlane released his own music (under his own name) through the electronica label Skam, and Precinct Recordings. Upon leaving university they formed a new band inspired by dance music, "lush shoegaze melodies"[5], and classic pop songwriting[5]. The name Friendly Fires originates from the opening track of the Section 25 LP Always Now.

Infantjoy - Departure

Winter / Cyan's Child" is the hot new two tracker from Michael Cassette, aka Matti Heininen and Erkka Lempiäinen. Over the last 12 months these two Finns have established themselves as the masters of 80's inspired melodic house music, first with Shadow's Movement, one of the highlights of SOS' excellent Balance compilation, and more recently with their remix of Paul Keeley's "A Sort Of Homecoming", which stormed the Beatport charts and picked up BBC Radio One airplay on James Zabiela's Glastonbury Essential Mix.

Winter is a real feelgood gem, with 80's synths and riffs riding bareback across a magical, goose-bump inducing groove. Cyan Child is a more intense affair and sounds like a natural follow up to last year's debut single "Zeppelin", picking up a huge reaction when road-tested at the pair's recent performance at Ministry of Sound.

With this new single and another EP lined up on on Anjunadeep under their Komytea guise, not to mention a monster bootleg in the works, it looks set to be a big year for Michael Cassette…

Having minted his Snowfall imprint with the acclaimed ‘Clamor’ EP earlier this year, Ross Tones aka Throwing Snow returns on December 3rd for his second EP of 2012, the eagerly awaited ‘Aspera’. As with its predecessor, the title comes laced with Latin rhetoric: “Aspera” translating as “to make rough”, providing an apt description for the aesthetic of the four original tracks on offer. 

From the title track Tones' creative direction is clearly displayed. Hinging round a warming bass, coarse stripped back drums accompany frosty arpeggios and washed out synths atop a bed of hidden strings, whilst on ‘Melum’ flickering percussion, ethereal guitars and throbbing melodic jabs combine with Throwing Snow’s trademark distortion, culminating in an unexpected segment of footwork punctuating the track’s expansive growth.

‘Lingerwell’ sees four knackered piano chords wrapped in warm crackles and hypnotic atmospherics blooming into life with a burst of pulsating stabs, before ‘Behest’ closes the EP with a climactic slugging match of drowned drums, throbbing bass and ecclesiastical synths, and a drop to make even the most atheistic of us think again.

Snowfall is now two releases strong, and having set out with an honest mission statement we are left highly anticipating what will surface next.
