there have been many terror-filled days at sea
I've been wondering if I'll ever get home

  When now the mists lighten over the scene of battle
then there are many soldiers longing to go home
to his dear children and to his wife
it could also have been girls who had been in battle

When now the smoke from bombs that hit their city
has been driven away with the strong wind from the north
