it's those places in and around my hometown that I only saw in passing, hardly ever visited, was very young at the time, and/or didn't give much attention; for whatever reason, memories of them are few and faint, but that makes the feelings tied to them all the more significant. that's what this song reminds me of.

"paradigm shift." was originally born out of frustration, anger, and hatred.

i was going through the worst creative burnout of my life. my surroundings filled me with dread as everything and everyone around me was seeking perfection, viewing everything analytically, and acting apathetically corporate. the people i was surrounded by demanded too much from me, expecting that i would gladly devote my body and soul to make my music "perfect" for the sake of another's ego and vision, who probably couldn't care less of other people's thoughts. i grew angry, and that bled into my music to the point that i started to hate it.

i disappeared for a week. i did nothing but sleep as my dreams felt more comforting than being awake. i socialized with no one except for cat. after a few days, i became slightly better, and i opened up fl to try to make a song. that was when i began work on "paradigm shift."

after nearly a year of sheltering within it, this song, that was originally made out of anger, morphed into a story. an epiphanous story of acceptance and peace.

"paradigm shift." is about my journey as a creative that is expected to meet the demands of what others consider "perfect." it's about my journey of realizing that i don't want nor need to be "perfect." it's about my journey of realizing that all i wish is for someone to feel something from my creations.

cat told me how this song sounds like i took my frustration and found beauty within it.
i love the sound of that.
