This mix is a pot-pourri of French and European 70s sounds that french artist Jerk 45 and myself digged during the year 2005, with a lot of editing, cut'n'paste-style.

Selected artist notes:

Nuphlo  AKA  Mannie  Sandhu  is  a  producer/DJ  based  in  Leeds.  His  style  is  a  combination  of  depth  and dancefloor while always trying to keep things a bit different. 

Redpine & Solo are London and Leeds based musicians John Stuckey and Sam Moss. Two artists from totally different musical backgrounds coming together with one clear goal – to create electronic music with depth and soul. 

EVM128, AKA Evermean Beats is a producer and DJ originally from Bristol, now based in East London. He has been on the radar for a few years and has supported the likes of LV, Artwork, Darq E Freaker, Flako, Afrika Hi-tek, Dj Vadim, Roots Manuva, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay and Don Letts.

Hailing from the small town of Stroud, SW England, young upstart Marcel Lune (AKA Motz Workman) has been quickly building his reputation as one of the hottest new talents in UK Bass Music. With his re-fix of Inner City’s classic 'Big Fun' and remixes for Enter Shikari, The Moodyboyz & Zacky Force Funk (One of Gonjasufi’s latest signings) underway he has already gained support from the likes of Paul Woolford and Mala.

Though  he  was  already  playing  around  with  a  bit  of  D’n’B  productions  for  a  while,  it  was  only  after  a revelatory visit to DMZ at Brixton’s Mass, that Izik created the Bunny On Acid moniker, influenced by the dubstep movement and the FlyLo-like fringes of the hip-hop world.

Lewis  Badwan  is  a  composer  based  in  Kingston-Upon-Thames.  Focusing  on  percussion  and  melody, Lewis’  style  amalgamates  both  Eastern  and  Western  influences whilst,  to  an  extent,  still  haunts  the contemporary London scene.

Coop stalwart IG Culture (http://igculture.com/) and Bugz In The Attic co-founder Alex Phountzi (@phountzi), and went on a high-flying 3-hour b2b session spanning broken beat, neo-soul, breaks, dancehall and everything in-between. The pair also record together as @namebrandsound, go check.

DIM074 - IG Culture & Alex Phountzi (Live 2016)

On December 11, Co-Op - the definitive club night and home of the seminal, early 2000s broken beat movement - returns to Boiler Room for a second round.

Last November, Co-Op Presents combined members of the original community (including IG Culture and Bugz In The Attic members Seiji and Alex Phountzi) with current torchbearers like Henry Wu, K15 and Alexander Nut (Eglo Records). 

The memorable session was a flashback to broken beat's Plastic People heyday, reigniting interest in the influential scene and eventually resulting in Co-Op manning their own stage at Dimensions Festival 2016.

As if that's not enough, the crew also return with new music in the bag. The story goes that the day after last year’s event, Boiler Room programmer, Errol Anderson, arranged a studio session where the original and current folk could collaborate for the first time. 

The first glimpse at that get together is now ready to share. Listen to “Substance” with South London producer Henry Wu on original production and IG Culture and Alex Phountzi on remix duties.

Henry Wu “Substance (IG Culture & Alex Phountzi remix)” will form part of an official release (due mid-2017) featuring other original music sourced from that studio session.

As the pendulum swung back and forth his mind slowly became fuzzy. He began to fall under a deep and luxurious spell in which he had no grace or control. His mind now belonged to the hypnotist and there was no way back. It was quite a skill to be able to hypnotise someone in such a fashion, to encourage their inhibitions to leave their body and fly wild with the wind. This was no magic trick or a play on words but a full blown takeover of mind and soul. 

Anma Records deliver a three track EP featuring Sofatalk and K15 on remix duties. This one is an embodiment of deep and soulful house with lush textures and graceful elegance.

One of my first edits from my library of found sounds: "Relaxing Rain and Loud Thunder" is designed as a brief intro into my perspective on contemporary field recording. This is actually a few different storms, recorded in different times in various places piled up on top of each other to create a uniquely soothing three and a half minutes.
