Nine years ago today, Jessica and I got married in LA. Every year I write an anniversary song - usually a hip-hop parody - and this year I flipped Common's "1999" because the number nine just felt right for where we are.

We went from California to Arkansas, from newlyweds to parents of Carter and Quincy (plus Mia the dog), from figuring it out to actually building something that lasts. The song is about slowing down enough to appreciate what we've got, even when life moves fast.

Nine is the last single digit - end of a cycle, threshold of something new. In Chinese culture it means "long-lasting." Mathematically, it always returns to itself. That's what nine years of marriage feels like - tested by everything, but always coming back to us.

Shoutout to Common, Sadat X, and Talib Kweli for the original. That DJ Premier beat is timeless.
