In the lead up to the release of my DJ Kicks on 16th June I'm giving away (one a week throughout May) the four tracks I've produced over the years that I'm most proud of - 'Mbira', 'Pause', 'Sequential Circus' &amp; 3000AD. Last week was 'Mbira', next up is 'Pause'. With 'Pause' I really wanted to try and write something with a big recognisable lead line rather than just deep pads and atmospherics....as a result this track took bloody ages to get right - but in the end I was really pleased with it and it does work the dance floor really well if I do say so myself! French legend Laurent Garnier teams up with Chambray for a steamy collaborative track titled 'Feeling Good' - set to land via Rekids on July 12.

Boyard from Belfast Ireland, makes completely sick music and has his own imprint called Mystic Mountain Express and we trust those of a fine musical pedigree will check that out! We planned to release a complete album of these “old studio jams” but due to the sheer volume of wicked tunes felt it was better to break them down into two easily digestible eps. Fear not dear listener, both arrive with different tastes so you can enjoy them without moderation. A brief description of what transpires next: “Staring Into Space” is hot for the heads that love a square bass, and be honest ‘who doesn’t’? “Interstellar Express” comes strong on the breaks but has an understated acid vibe, with overlapping LFO sweeps and earworm vocal. A real groove builder. Totally spatial. “Night Shift” has a tribal dub mayhem meets a ”sort of Metro Area” vibe. Hard to not be into this. “Out of Sight” wraps things up with a 3/4 idm riddim thing going on and almost like a chem bros thing going on.. And i’m about it! Get lost in this collection of movin’ jams.

Lee returns for his sophomore release on clipp.art with "Reflections since 09" showcasing the many different tones at disposal on this young producers’ palette. There’s a lot to talk about on this tune which is both subtle and sharp, bold and tender, a mixture of breakbeat and squiggly acid house that relentlessly drives forward an urgent groove, underpinned by Lee’s soulful vocals and dotted by cinematic highlights. Another top notch release by the Dallas resident.

KARLITA delivers AMOR FABOLA - the sophomore 5 track extended player on clipp.art by the French artist. Throughout Amor Fabola, Karlita deepens into the sound she developed on her wonderful 2019 debut release Lazydayz, while exploring the more rounder elements of house  music. It’s a sound Karlita warms to and there is a clear affection for the transformative power of house that oozes and permeates from every fibre of the project. From the warbling intro, underwater vocals and distorted perc patterns of “I Can’t Wait” to the linear movement of “Body Language”, rough edges of “a tiger in the heart” and propulsive electro vibe of “Eternity”, Amor Fabola is music created from emotive energy, and pieced together from those elements occupying introspective dancefloor spaces. But at its centre this is a work of love. A love of house and the moments and freedoms that house music affords the listener. While the choir vocal pads of closing track “Unfaithful” echo stylistically the floating mantra of 10CC’s “I’m Not in Love”, the core of this material invites similar intimacy. AMOR FABOLA itself translates from the Latin “love story”, while Fabola also lays roots in “storytelling, tales, drama” and in French “Fabuler” can mean “invent” or “make up” or “fantasize”.  There is crossover in the word “fabricate”. While Amor also takes up in “infatuation, attachment, adoration”. And like anything created there is a process. As the listener we are invited to also make up our own story, as if to say we all have a choice in the things we love and hate. Locate the drama where we will. Piece it together. An artist also known for working through the medium of collage, Karlita thematically stitches together elements from what is known and beyond knowing. About house music. About the individual and their art. About the things we make up. In her own words “This album tends to retrace the process of a romance, good or bad, to each his own interpretation”.
