'Amsterdam via Wales DJ & producer Maroki unveils a darker, more eccentric side to his productions, this time opting for four bass heavy, left-leaning cuts of idiosyncratic dance-floor experimentation on LTFIRE. Nestled amongst the trees along the river lJ, Maroki is surrounded by influence, from the city's bustling streets to the tranquility of nature's boundless beauty; Maroki’s work walks the tight-tope between these two spaces, a place where machines and human complexity meet.

‘Pots & Pans & Handstands’ opens up the A-Side with a high-octane journey, meshing breaks and shape-shifting bass with hoovering pads that sound like landing UFOs. ‘Hasnoot’ continues this menacing theme, providing an immersive experience that feels compulsive and raw. Yet, there’s elements of fun and flashes of colour, adding to the almost audio visual vibe Maroki can create.

The B side opens with ‘Boiler’ a nocturnal groove that sways ominously in the wind; If the UFOs were landing on the records A side, this is the soundtrack to their dystopian future. Maroki completes his metamorphosis with ‘San Andras’, visuals of large spaces with high concrete ceilings come to mind, where the track's mechanics can thrive, reverberating beautifully amongst the looming shadows of dancers.'

Paulina Rodriguez aka Paurro is what dance club cats consider a real DJ. She has built a reputation for pumping House music ecstasy and complete body workout on the dance floors of New York City, her hometown Mexico City, and the new shores she’s been heading to, expanding her rhythmical generosity down south up north, east and west around the globe.
A luminous spheroid of plasma held together by her own gravity - she glows in disco darkness enhanced by smoke machines and strobes - Paurro, as we speak, has become an integral and essential part of not only Ciudad de México’s, but house lover’s night life - or as Franklin Fuentes put it: “It’s hot in here, it’s wet in here, it’s dark in here, I like it here!”
After a few releases including her fantastic remix of “Nuestra Forma” by DJs Pareja and Lupe, Cómeme is proud to present her very first appearance on the label:
5 dirty House bangers, driven by sharp breakbeats, acidic-straight-in-your-face-synth-madness, rolling and wall shaking (sub) bass lines and laser sharp strings.
Paurro’s “Galavision” is full of floor fillers, lush psychedelia, basement jams and peak time jacking craze for those who know and those who wanna learn.
The release also includes a remix (of the track “They’re here!”) by no other than “The Don” aka Matias Aguayo, presenting a more stripped down version, lovingly dedicated to the vibes both DJs achieve to create when playing together in already legendary appearances at the shores of the Pacific Ocean and the CDMX’s nasty City Centre. “Galavision” Is only the beginning. Pasteleira EP is the second release from the Archermano duo and is set to come out on September 8 via their own O Sótão Records imprint. Techno music maniac Tomás Archer and the creator of the O Sótão platform Francisco Esp. have been expanding their love for electronic and progressive music into production duties resulting in the Psalms EP, released in 2021.

Their second project is named after the neighborhood they grew up and live in, a demographically diverse area in Porto which blends high all the way to low classes in a small part of town, much like the rest of the city. Currently known as the main drug hub in the north of Portugal, Pasteleira has been the focus of national news outlets due to the increasing population of homeless people struggling with addiction, with many traveling the country to get a regular fix and survive. Since late 2019, and subsequently heavily impacted by the pandemic, this phenomenon has created a situation in which two vastly different worlds, are confronted.

This work tries to depict that from the perspective of two guys in their early 30's, as their neighborhood changes and their youth starts disappearing. Pasteleira EP is a 5-track coming-of-age record that pays homage to where they come from: the expressions they use, the nightclubs they go to, the culture that pervades them, and their neighborhood, just as it is at this point in time, without any judgment.

2020 marks five years of Rhythm Section International and to celebrate the Peckham-based label has brought together a host of family, friends and newcomers for a hefty compilation, SHOUTS. Spanning a wide breadth of sounds and styles, the 36 track release features the likes of old friends like Prequel, Mallard, Neu Graffik and Contours, as well as contemporaries and newcomers like Yu Su, Emma Jean-Thackray, Session Victim and our pick from Chilean Born, Milan Based DJ and producer Paula Tape. 

Label boss Bradley Zero penned some words about Paula and her Rhythm Section debut for the compilation: "Her Track 'Panamericana' channels her South American roots with a conga-led percussive pattern backed by a driving Italo rhythm - a gentle nod to her adopted country where she has quickly become an integral part of the scene. With staccato vocal samples, arpeggiating synths and hypnotic screeches, Paula Tape demonstrates her prowess as a composer with a keen ear for the past and a vision for the future."

I original stumbled across Joseph back in the early aughts when Membrane Recordings was releasing a ton of cool grungy acid. He's kept to that since then, still making grungy acid and I dig it. The newest venture "Jack Trax On Wax" is a label he's jointly running with the TSR fellas and so far they've knocked out 4 EPs of swinging acid jack. I'm pretty sure he's also my 4th favourite Swede (but only by virtue of being the 4th one I met we're going 100% chronological order here). Joseph's track on this Boxed set of Bleeps is 1 of 2 total acid tracks. Of course there's always room for more, but where does one draw the line before it turns into an Acid comp? I think we've got the ratio down pat.

To celebrate 500 episodes of Bleep Radio...

In 2003 I began streaming live via Livesets dot com. Over the years the number of annually archived shows has always fluctuated, but eventually it appears 500 has arrived. Sure the actual number of streams is probably triple that or more, but that's harder to celebrate.

This 4x12" Boxed Set represents the artists whose music I play the most on Bleep Radio. Literally and objectively played the most. I'm a big number crunching statistics nerd and have trended my own track-lists for years as many of you know. As a Canadian, far removed from where the music I like shines the brightest I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to meet with and play alongside a lot of these folks in person and not just via the stream.

Bleep Radio is expected to hit show 500 on May 14th which is when --if all things align-- this release will be ready. The 500th show will consist of a mix of all of the tracks on this release by myself, plus...guests?

This release is isn't just a milestone, it's an open love letter to all of you whose music I play and will continue to play and support. Keep it wonky folks.
