  For Reggae Archive Records latest lovingly compiled and annotated testament to the nascent UK roots/dub scene of the 1990s, we've gone straight for one of the best with “Rise Up – The Riz Records Story”. With an output that spanned most of the decade and a catalogue that stretched beyond the usual handful of singles to include some very strong albums, Riz was a powerhouse for the revival of UK reggae and  the growth in it's popularity that continues to this day.
     After much difficulty in deciding which of the many first rate tracks we'd have to leave off due to time constraints, we've achieved a fantastic selection of 15 of the best the label has to offer. If that wasn't enough, six of the tracks feature exclusive discomixes from Rootikal's David Hill whilst tracks from Willie Williams and Earl 16 are previously unreleased. How and why these excellent tracks slipped through the net is now forgotten; it definitely wasn't down to lack of quality.
     One of the labels strengths was the ability to attract and record leading Jamaican artists as well as those from the UK. In addition to Willie Williams and Earl 16, we've included tracks from Johhny Osbourne,   Admiral Tibet, Danny Red, Bob Skeng, Orville Smith, Mikey Mystic, Indica All Stars and of course the ever present Riz All Stars, the sort of line-up that most of the UK's independent reggae labels could only have dreamed of recording. All the tracks were taken from the original master tapes with everyone involved in the project aiming to achieve the best possible sound. We think we've achieved it and this really is a treat for those who value sound quality; these tracks have never sounded better.
      In addition to the music, the package also contains extensive sleeve notes recounting the label's story with contributions from key players Nick Manasseh and Gil Cang as well as archive images, with the vinyl version coming in hand screen printed sleeves. Whether a long time fan looking to fill in some gaps or upgrade worn out singles or just a reggae fan looking for a great compilation with nothing but strong tracks you may not be familiar with, then this album is for you.
      “Rise Up – The Riz Records Story” is released by Reggae Archive Records on 27th January 2013 on CD, digital download and as an extremely limited vinyl pressing, spread across two separate LPs, complete with screen printed sleeves and sleeve note insert. Between them the two records contain all 15 tracks, available from all good retailers and direct from Reggae Archive Records.

Revolutionary Brothers Music rises up to the next level with its "Basque Times Riddim". This is a version of the famous English rhythm now rescued and arranged by the German "Far East Band". The project includes the launch of two 10" vinyls, Volume 1 and Volume 2 published on January and May 2014; and besides the CD   "Basque Times Riddim CD Gold Edition".
The CD is the final step of the riddim series, collecting all the songs of the first two vinyl volumes along with 2 new vocal versions, a melodica version and a dub version. 

This second vinyl of Basque Times Riddim series brings three new tunes by the jamaican veteran Toaster Ranking Joe, the Brixton MC Brother Culture and young and talented french singer Jr Yellam, including the instrumental version played by the German Far East Band. Pure Roots music. 

The design wants to reflect the mix of sound system culture between and the Basque Country, a mixture of music and traditions, accompanying the force of Basque Times Riddim sound.

West London’s Dark Angel is a talented and versatile roots, dancehall and R & B singer who in recent years has built up a name within London’s underground dancehall scene and on pirate radio. In 2008 gave way to the release of the lyrically inspired herb anthem “Medication” on the Norwich Foundation label.

Dark Angel tackles the rhythm like a man sent on a mission from the creator, his militant singjay tones sounding reminiscent of Capleton over a relentless, dark rhythm track equipped with punching 80’s drum sounds, infectious synth lines, a subsonic bassline
and futuristic piano chops. The subject matter is strictly cultural as he chants down the injustices of the Babylon system:
“you ever wonder why Babylon invaded? Churches and villages them go ram-raided.. The past is the present them try to erase it…..

  Prolific reggae producer Clive Chin ranks as one of Jamaican music's greatest heroes. While working at the family business, Randy's Record Store and the crucial studio upstairs, Randy's Studio 17, Chin oversaw seminal recordings by the '70s top reggae performers and producers: the Wailers, Tommy McCook, Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Lee Perry and Black Uhuru. From 1969, when it opened, Randy's Studio 17 became a focal point of Jamaican music, with the studio booked non-stop. Working with innovative engineer Errol Thompson, a teenaged Clive Chin laid down thick bass and drum rhythms which became a signature of the roots reggae, dub and rebel rock/rockers sounds. Music personnel flocked to Randy's to get the rich bass sound and full sonic image on their songs. 
                                      
     Mr Chin first rose to prominence by producing a record for a classmate Horace Swaby, a.k.a. Augustus Pablo. This record, Java, became a slow burning international sensation with its Eastern motif played on the melodica. LPs followed, namely This Is Augustus Pablo and Java Java Dub, which elaborated on the rhythmic achievements of the single. Another of his biggest hits on the British National Chart was "Fatty Bum, Bum" by Carl Malcolm. Ultimately, these halcyon days came to an abrupt end in 1978, as the Chin family closed shop and relocated to New York, where the record operation was renamed V.P. Records, today, the largest reggae distributor in North America. Distanced from the scene, Chin spent much of the '80s helping the family to run a new business, a Jamaican restaurant in Queens. As of 1998, Clive Chin has begun to produce records again, and it will be refreshing to hear new work in the '90s from this producing legend. Underappreciated, largely due to the longstanding unavailability stateside of even the milestone productions of Chin's career, a spate of reissues has brought Chin's productions to the light of day once again...
