A Benefit Compilation for Homelessness in Los Angeles County from Pleasure of Love

Pleasure of Love presents a compilation of dance music to raise awareness and benefit the homelessness epidemic in Los Angeles County.  DJs, producers, and musicians from Los Angeles and around the world contributed tracks, hoping to shed light on the issue and provide a little relief over the winter holidays and beyond.

Artists included are Aimes (Wonder Stories), Wild & Free, Club Tularosa, JMMSTR, Ghosts of Venice, Turbotito, FSQ, Peter Croce (Rocksteady Disco), Ladymonix (Frizner Electric), Mojito Boys, Sacre Galaxie, DJ Duckcomb, Air Zaire, Dream Machines, Band of Misfits, Mix & Fairbanks, and Nala (London).

Homelessness in LA County surged over 75% in less than 6 years, as reported by the LA Times back in February, 2018.  Housing shortages, rising rents, and a slow response to help aid the homeless have created a complex and dangerous situation in LA’s notorious skid row and beyond.  In an effort to best utilize the funds we generate from this benefit, we’ll be donating specifically to Downtown Women’s Center in LA.  Per the shelter’s website-

“The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness and formerly homeless women.
We envision a Los Angeles with every woman housed and on a path to personal stability. Our mission is to end homelessness for women in greater Los Angeles through housing, wellness, and advocacy.”

About Pleasure of Love-
Pleasure of Love is a weekly disco, house, and international funk flavored party in Hollywood, CA.  On its 2nd year, the party has had guests from around the world play alongside founder Dino Soccio, focusing on underground house and disco in the small basement club Dirty Laundry.  A small cult following led to the launch of a vinyl only imprint in 2018.  The label is currently working on its 4th release slated for January 2019.

Duo-Tone Productions recently teamed up with Sense of Sound Singers to release a brand new cover of the Disco-House anthem, ‘Follow Me’. Now, OPOLOPO, one of Scandinavia's most extraordinary producers, has given the track a lively, groove-filled remix!

Opolopo DJ:s from London to Tokyo. His sets span from funk, boogie and soul to various shades of house. From sweaty, stripped down and dirty to uplifting and lush. All unified by his worship of The Groove. 2019 started of with two #1's on the main Traxsource chart. The remixes for Spencer Morales' Teena Marie cover - I Need Your Lovin' and disco legends Change's Make Me (Go Crazy) both sat at #1 for weeks in January and February. 2019 will also see a third EP for Z Records and a second EP and album for Local Talk Records. In late June Opolopo curated and mixed the Ibiza 2019 Poolside compilation for Toolroom Records. The compilation features three exclusive original tracks as well.

The original 'Follow Me' was created by New Jersey trio Aly-Us and was executive produced by DJ Pierre, a member of Chicago outfit Phuture who are often credited with inventing the Acid-House sound. ‘Follow Me’ was originally released on the renowned Strictly Rhythm record label and was a big success for the band, reaching in the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart Top 10. Now, Duo-Tone Productions have taken the musical and cultural heritage that lies within the song and given it a 2019 update with the help of Liverpool’s most respected choir.

Sense of Sound Singers is an award winning collective of phenomenal vocalists, renowned for delighting and thrilling audiences locally, nationally and internationally. Their incredible talent has been recognised by many big names, leading them to become the resident singers for Cream Classical and perform backing vocals for the likes of Paloma Faith, Jon Bon Jovi, Seal, Nile Rogers and Chic, Damon Albarn, Peaches, and many more! Having recently recorded with Indie-Pop sensations, Blossoms, the choir return to the studio once again to deliver this brand new track.

‘Follow Me’ captures the emotions of the choir’s renowned live performances, and condenses it into one powerful Dance track that radiates with their positive energy. By adding in their collective chorus, this modern cover builds on the original track’s understated 90’s sound and brings it to life in style. With its infectious rhythm and uplifting vocal prowess, this new release lands just in time to be your next summer soundtrack. 

Sense of Sound Singers is led by creative dynamo, Jennifer John. She  manages the choir and injects her soaring musical ambition into their every performance. This new collaboration demonstrates this perfectly, with Jennifer taking the song’s socially conscious lyrics (that are just as relevant today) and adds to them her own personal twist.

After establishing club nights in Liverpool, Duo-Tone then went on to strengthen the brand with an eclectic mix of consecutive House, Electronic and Nu-Disco releases. Recent singles came from the likes of KOVA (which hit the Upfront Club Charts Top 10) and Josh Hunter (which has received extensive support from Radio 1 and KISS FM). They have now expanded beyond their label/event format to present new tracks under the name of Duo-Tone Productions. 

Previous releases featuring the likes of Tori Cross and Gazelle have garnered much success (with the latter hitting the UK Music Week Club Charts Top 10). This cover adds a new flavour to the label’s catalogue, giving the 90’s classic a modern reworking.

Yes Confection are back with a new single "It's So Long (Since We've Touched), taken from their upcoming album. It's their first release since their second album "Private Conversations" was released in 2012, following up from their seminal self-titled debut "Confection" in 2007.          

After this long hiatus, thankfully nothing has changed.....the formula of raw vs smooth, live vs machine, the seamless melding of funk, boogie and soul, the luscious melodies, ear worm choruses and Juanita Tippins' totally unique vocals gliding over everything, is 100% present and correct.
