Surprising release by Gerd on the Basement Series with an old classic themed techno track he found on a dusty DAT tape while archiving some old recordings. Somehow a traditional techno track with metalic basslines, stellar string sounds and retro futuristic vocals with a classic theme... time & space. The original slower paced version did get an reshape/makeover that gives it a 2011 update that will be a standard record in the box for many! Remixers on duty are Rotterdam's Duplex duo who are back in business and deliver two remixes. Timeless tracks that will stand out between all dj tools!

Voyeur make a return to Madhouse Records this April with the ‘Tonight’ EP, comprising four original compositions from the rising duo.

Benson Herbert & Leo Picking aka Voyeur stepped onto the scene in 2012 with their ‘Blame It On The Youth’ EP, released through Kerri Chandler’s then fledgling MadTech imprint, the New Jersey legend has mentored the duo ever since shifting them onto parent label Madhouse with the ‘Rain Away’ EP and featuring a Voyeur remix of his and Jerome Sydenham’s ‘Mama’ on his Watergate compilation.
Here we see the pair return to Madhouse with their soul-infused sound that’s seen them pick up support from the likes of Norm Talley, Nicholas and John Daly.

Title cut ‘Tonight’ kicks off the release and sees Voyeur offer up a classically sample based cut, fusing an array of chopped up snippets with loose organic rhythms and ethereal synth flourishes running alongside analogue bass licks and hypnotic vocal murmurs. ‘Don’t Lie To Me’ retains a similar aesthetic with dusty drum sounds running alongside lavish piano, horn and vocal hooks.

Entering the latter half of the release we have ‘Why’ which takes on a jazz-infused house feel, employing infectious guitar riffs, fluttering Rhodes lines and a bumpy rhythmic swing. Closer ‘Philae & Rosetta’ then rounds off this classy collection on a deeper tip with sparse understated rhythms while an underlying blues vibe adds a smooth and smoky feel to things.

Voyeur’s ‘Tonight’ EP is out on Madhouse Records 16th March (Vinyl) and 6th April 2015.

Clone Classic Cuts serves another cult Italo disco classic! Gorgeous female vocals slapped on that lovely 80's synthesizer/drum programming. This is one of those releases that easily makes it into the top 50 of all time greatest italo disco songs. Produced by Roberto Ferrante (also known for his Pinneaples project) and originally released on the obscure Airport label in 1984. We managed to restore and re-master the original versions and the lovely 'Paris' mix. On top of the original versions we serve you a new re-rub by italian Italo specialist Bottin (Eskimo, Artifacts etc). Bottin did a great job with a new crazy soundhack mix that cranks up the energy level and makes it more jackin. Pretty amazing when you realize that these tracks are making people dance for 28 years now. More then enough reason for a proper re-release on high quality vinyl. Enjoy!

South African house and synth-funk from the kwaito era by the legendary Senyaka Kekana. The unexpected deep house jam "Bayanyonyoba (1993)" and the illustrious soul song "Don't Judge Me Bad (1987)" are big RH favorites. Original copies are absolutely impossible to find, now released on 12inch format for the first time…



Kwaito is not just a form of house music, it’s also about the way South Africans dress, talk and dance. The lifestyle took shape in Soweto and gained popularity throughout the cities and townships of South Africa during the nineties. In the backdrop of a transforming South Africa, this slow, loud and striking form of house music emerged just before Nelson Mandela took office as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. Kwaai meaning hot, kicking - kwaito is a style in which the sung, rapped and shouted lyrics played a prominent part to mobilise the youth and push for change.

Senyaka's 1987 album Fuquza (Dance) was years ahead of its time and gave rise to his reputation as a forerunner of the kwaito sound. The album includes "Don't Judge Me Bad" as well as "African Rap" and "Go Away". Later, in 1993, with South Africa on the cusp of democracy and the kwaito movement about to explode into the mainstream, Senyaka cemented his position with the release of his landmark album Ma-Gents, which included the song “Bayanyonyoba”.

Regarded as one of the first African rappers, this pioneering artist was best known for his eccentric, controversial lyrics - delivered with a bold and at times funny approach that endeared him to many fans. Outside music, Senyaka also grew in popularity thanks to his roles as an actor, including in the popular homegrown film Moruti wa Tsotsi and the television comedy Ashifa Shabba.

The emblematic artist successfully reinvented himself during his career, which led to divergent works. The late Senyaka’s versatile character shines through in this release as well. “Bayanyonyoba” is a soulful, loud but dreamy South African house gem, whilst “Don’t Judge Me Bad” is a more introverted electronic soul song.

Three dance floor hitters by the Dutch Arp Frique. "Nos Magia" holds collaborations with Nigerian funkster Orlando Julius and Cape-Verdean legend Americo Brito. Surprising new cuts that could easily have been made in the 70ties! Big tip!

Arp Frique is Niels Nieuborg from the city of Rotterdam, who has been actively involved in the Dutch live music scene for years, working with Cape Verdean & Surinamese musicians especially. After all these years, he finally presents his own true musical output. 

"Nos Magia" is a classic sounding, but unheard Cape Verdean funana song featuring the old skool Americo Brito on vocals. The b-side holds two collaborations with afro-beat protagonist Orlando Julius.....enjoy!!
