Back in December, 2018, we had the pleasure of hosting a special live set from Australian producer Nali at a party at OHM, Berlin. Nic is not only a supremely talented producer, but also a close friend of our collective, and someone who has been a part of our journey from the very start. His performance was a true highlight of the night and its careful pacing, delicate melodies and understated power have stayed clear in our memories ever since. 

Indeed, over time this live set has grown to become an important reference point for us, as it naturally formed the basis of our first EP release with Nic. Together, we have dived into these memorable 90 minutes time and time again, drawing direct inspiration for the tracks on the release from the music and ideas presented within. 

As we prepare to release our first record - Nali's Chance Encounters EP - we’re happy to share a recording of the live set that brought this release into being. We hope you can feel (or relive) the energy and electricity that inspired us to embark on this journey together.

Patterns of Perception 88 - Nali

As an artist, @gigi-fm ’s energy and vision is unmistakeable. Known for truly wide-ranging and eclectic selections, and her electric presence in the booth - her sets feel unpredictable, warm and inviting all at once. Underpinned by psychedelic, transcendent atmospheres and rhythms, her sounds expand organically in all directions, with shades of techno, electro, breaks, house, IDM, ambient and more used in vivid, kaleidoscopic and unexpected combinations.

Recorded live at our party from this past summer, GiGi’s Patterns of Perception 89 perfectly embodies her indelible energy. As a closing set, this was a blistering performance that left the audience totally transfixed over the course of two and half blissful hours. Capturing spontaneity, improvisation, diversity and vibrancy, this set had a profound, lasting impact on all those present, and we’re pleased to be able to share this recording.

Patterns of Perception 89 - GiGi FM

For Patterns of Perception 112, we're very excited to welcome back @kondukukonduku - a truly stellar all-round talent and dear friend of our collective. 

Four whole years have passed since we last featured Konduku in our mix series. In this time, he has reached new creative heights, adding textures, shades and vibrancy to his distinctive sound - in the process finding homes for highly touted releases on the likes of @spaziodisponibile, Mantis (via @delsinrecords), @nousklaeraudio, @amenthia-recordings (with @aasudd) and most recently @djnobu_bitta's Bitta.

As a DJ, his creativity and skills are similarly vaunted, and see him regularly take the stage at key festivals, venues and events across Europe and Asia. 

Recorded live at Patterns of Perception @ OHM Berlin on Apr 21, 2023, Konduku's Patterns of Perception 112 is a showcase of his thrilling abilities behind the decks. Unpredictable yet totally engrossing, this set is a profound tale of tension and release. Tightly wound grooves and eerie psychedelia leading us unerringly to ecstasy. A fine balance of intuition, control and spirit from a visionary artist in full-flight.

Patterns of Perception 112 - Konduku

Chinese-German artist @samgoku has a distinctive take on techno that draws on his own Asian heritage and blends it with contemporary electronics. Across two sublime albums for Atomnation and Permanent Vacation, he has infused his fluid rhythms with gorgeous melodies and ambient haze, traditional Eastern instruments and ethereal moods. This summer, he debuted on the Dekmantel label with four tracks of unconventional techno that marry the physical with the emotional in exceptional style.

There are plenty of similar contrasts in this week's mix, which is an almost two-hour dive into his sound world. It is a deep and compelling blend of supple rhythms that are always subtly shifting. His pristine selections take in dubby and cavernous grooves, tripped-out minimal details and stylish techno cuts that always come with plenty of colour and high-definition designs which lend the whole thing a futurist edge but very human soul.

Dekmantel Podcast 474 - Sam Goku

There was impressive scenery on the second floor on the last day of the festival. The time for Sunju Hargun, who was to take the stage with two different sets, dancing and listening, to heal the bodies of the dancers who had been dancing so long in the rain. Deep dub echoes, Layered drones, and healing sounds echoed through the room, melting listeners' consciousness and guiding them into a deep meditative state.

フェスティバル最終日、セカンドフロアの朝の光景は印象的なものでした。ダンスとリスニング、二種のセットで登壇することになったSunju Hargunが、雨で踊り続けたダンサーたちの身体を癒した時間です。とろけるようなダブエコー、ドローン、ヒーリングサウンドが室内に響き渡り、リスナーの意識を融解させる深い瞑想をガイドしました。

Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. 

"I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions.

This mix is a studio recording rather than a live set from an IT event because I feel that this style of music requires a more intentional approach to the context of an event. It hasn’t quite aligned with the atmosphere of my time slots—at least, not for now." — Craig Gonzalez @craig-gonzalez

For our March introspective radio show, we had the pleasure of welcoming an old friend of ours, Casper Clark aka Volte-Face to take you through two hours of ambient & downtempo selections from his sizeable collection of music for curious ears 💫

As expected, things got pretty interesting on air at Netil Radio that Thursday afternoon and we are so happy to finally be sharing the recording of the show with you today. It’s a smooth voyage departing from the misty ports of spacious drones and sailing patiently into the deep ocean waters of progressive half time and dusty alternative experiments ⛵️

Volte-Face, a moniker of BleeD promoter/label-head Casper Clark, was a fixture on the European techno scene from 2014-2019, with his own productions (also as Rote alongside Daniel Avery) appearing on labels such as Semantica, Phorma and Non-Series His BleeD imprint also released material from the likes of Wata Igarashi, DJ Nobu, Refracted and Svreca, and he played regularly for the likes of Berghain, fabric, Tresor and Khidi . After an enforced hiatus , he's started to rear his head again with a recent mix for Oslated and a forthcoming ambient session for Deep Breakfast Series. He's also been hosting his own Through The Wreckage ambient mixtape series on Soundcloud, which is updated regularly.

This recording from October of 2019 at OHM in Berlin is her and I opening the party from zero and doing six hours of tension building hypnotics.
