'Medicine' was written especially for the Zane Lowe curated rescore of the 'Drive' movie soundtrack. 
 
After we stole him we made our way from Los Angeles through the Californian desert to Las Vegas. Drowning my sorrows and (narrowly) avoiding conflict from many directions..... I sat down with Jim (Zane Lowe's Producer) and he began to explain to me how he was in the process of re-scoring a movie and did we want to be involved. The film in question was the modern classic ‘Drive’. So of course my answer was ‘yes’. We wrote Medicine for our chosen scenes.   Medicine, it’s title and sentiment, goes all the way back to the original The 1975 project that was based in my bedroom. It’s a new piece of music informed by the genesis of our band and our love for ‘Drive’ as a film. Having the opportunity to re-score a movie of which we were already so familiar provided us with a sense of knowing and allowed us to be slightly more introspective than we maybe would have been approaching something unknown. The movie itself plays with the duality of resignment and hope - and this is most obvious and stirring in the scenes we chose to score. The song is a testament to that same idea and has in turn become one of our most personal and best loved pieces of music to date. I won’t delve into what the song is about lyrically because frankly I want to put those ideas to bed; but being provided with the context in which Medicine came to be, it allowed the song to become a mausoleum for those ideas, captured, diverted and frozen forever. Which is pretty cool x

Copy is an old friend of ours from Portland, OR. He’s a criminally underrated electro producer, with releases on Audio Dregs. In the past he has remixed rap and R&B songs (he devoted whole mixtapes to remixes of Bone-Thugs and R. Kelly) so we hit him up to contribute to our project. Copy’s “Summertime” is just so funky. This guy gets the groove just right. It’s brilliant.

It’s a huge honor to have had Thom rework this track. After alt-J mentioned liking our music in an interview a few months back, we contacted them and they asked to trade remixes. You can hear our version of  “Hunger Of The Pine” on their SoundCloud page (soundcloud.com/alt-j/story-4-sleeplessly-embracing-a-remix-by-clipping). We dig the weird skittery rhythm of Thom’s “Inside Out”. He’s a really sophisticated percussionist and his remix has such an alien sense of time.

Kanga is a promising young producer/beat-maker/singer/writer/everything. Definitely check out her stuff for some cold gothy pop. Her take on “Body & Blood” is clubby and danceable but at the same time totally eerie. Hard-as-fuck beats and the vocals are on some summoning-occult-demons-type-shit.

RP Boo is a goddamn legend. We are so honored that he wanted to do this remix for us. Footwork — the genre he (arguably) invented — is known for its jittery, hyper-active rhythms, and RP’s flip of “Tonight” showcases his signature drum programming skills, transforming our hook into a Chicago house-party-ready sex anthem. We sincerely hope this track gets somebody laid one day.

Tonight (RP Boo Remx)

Rind is the solo project of singer/musician/artist Lee Relvas. Relvas composes and performs solo operas, and also produces a wide array of visual work (drawings, paintings, comics, etc.). When she agreed to do this remix, we asked her to please make sure she sang on it, at least a little bit, because we love her voice. And she really delivered with this slowly creeping interpretation of B&B, which builds into a powerful vocal crescendo.


Body&Blood (Rind Remx)

Terminal 11 is an amazing breakcore artist—seriously, he’s got records on Phthalo, Cock Rock Disco, and Hymen—who was once the sole audience member at a Clipping show in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was embarrassing, but he’s a nice guy and he agreed to do this remix for us anyway (maybe out of pity).

Get Up (Terminal 11 Remx)

It’s a cliché to say that somebody needs no introduction, but sometimes it’s true. Sleeparchive’s "Hospital Tracks" was a massive inspiration to us. That album taught us that if you painstakingly build four perfect sounds, a track might only need four sounds in it. We don’t necessarily always take this advice ourselves, but it remains a core tenet. It’s an honor to have been remixed by this guy. This track should be on vinyl.

Body&Blood (Sleeparchive Remx)

Progressive Reason track using the Ultranova; this track came from an accident when I was chopping drums, but the effect was nice so I kept it. This was one of those I ended up happy with and it all flowed together.
