Pinkshinyultrablast, a five-piece band from Saint-Petersburg in Russia, are set to release their debut album ‘Everything Else Matters’ on 26th January.

Hailing from a city more synonymous with the State Conservatory rather than a gang of shoegaze addicts, they’ve been compared to Lush. But this is no mere throwback tribute - due to their sharp, icy electronics and ability to subvert the genre, bringing something new to the table. They possess  not only the spirit of late 80s/early 90s British bands like Ride, but also machine-made sounds of the same era from Sabres Of Paradise or Global Communication, not to mention wider vibrations like Cluster, Popul Vuh, Terry Riley and Philip Glass.

Disdain for a stagnant scene can often be a driving force of creativity; the band say of St Petersburg that, “we realised the local indie scene was totally boring and wanted to play something radically different”. That vision has been realised – this is an album brimming with playful melody and finely-crafted songwriting. Imagine the scope of a Caribou record, fronted by Elizabeth Fraser soundtracking a grizzly Raskolnikov crime.

The band take their name from an Astrobrite album, an act who were, according to the band, instrumental in how they “researched spaces between ambient, heavy guitar and pop music” .The spaces are what stand out, the production creates a dream-like affair, while space to breathe and reflect on the beauty of the music is accommodated. There is a sparseness to the album that in turn gives spaciousness, even expansiveness.

The second single ‘Holy Forest’ is released 19th January. The song is indicative of an album full of melodic gems and shimmering shoegaze - euphoric with spectral guitars, its sharp edged pop has a radiant charm.  Welcome to your new favourite Russian band.

Mumrunner deal with aesthetics from contrasting aspects of sound: sometimes abrasive alternative rock melds with dream pop soundscapes that gives the impression of being otherworldly.  ​The Tampere, Finland based band love to play loud but never forsake an interest in subtler dynamics which makes Mumrunner's ambitions unique and special.

Bond draws you in with distant strums, melodic lead lines and seductive verses. But take off comes via quiet explosions and a soaring chorus that's pervasively longing and beautiful in equal measure.

After two critically acclaimed EPs, Flyying Colours are set to release their debut album ‘Mindfullness’ in September on Club AC30.  Residing in a dream-world that sits somewhere between psych, indie, grunge and shoegaze, the Australian band’s beautifully dynamic new offering showcases their talent for uniting a delicate vocal melody with a satisfying thick wall of abrasive drums and guitars.

Leading track and first single It’s Tomorrow Now further stirs the melting pot. Opening with a chaotic looped squeal, the knockout punch of the frenzied opening riff and steady, driving drums sets the bar high for the nine tracks that are to follow.

Formed in 2011 in Brunswick by school friends Brodie and Gemma, they played every show they could week in, week out in Melbourne’s bustling inner north to finesse their sound. Debut single Wavygravy (2013) perfectly set the scene by truly capturing the unhinged essence of a Flyying Colours show. But the recent addition of the impressive abilities of Andy on drums and Mel on bass have taken that unhingedness to undreamt-of-levels, making the beautiful trip of their live show, something to truly marvel.

The Melbourne quartet have since spent the last year touring with label mates pinkshinyultrablast as well as Johnny Marr, Brian Jonestown Massacre and A Place To Bury Strangers, whilst singles Not Today and Running Late taken from their second EP, ‘ROYGBIV’ garnered heavy rotation on enormous radio stations worldwide, including KEXP, BBC6, JJJ, RRR and FBi. They hit #47 on the CMJ Radio top 200 in the states, sat in the UK’s Amazing Radio charts for weeks, and were championed by Clash, 405, Stereogum, Wonderland and NME. With the September release of ‘Mindfullness’, 2016 seems set to be just as busy.

In 1997, Jeremy Wrenn formed a two-man shoegaze project called Airiel. Fast forward to 2012 and the band is four members strong, has toured nationally and internationally, released two singles, five EP's (including a box set), one full length album and tracks for multiple compilations. 

Recorded and produced by the band itself, Airiel has just finished Kid Games, a brand new four track EP for Shelflife. Bringing in many of the elements that formed Airiel's foundation, Andrew Marrah and Chase Johnson's drum machines and synths make a larger presence. This produced a new sound that keeps the elements that make Airiel great; catchy melodies, lush guitars, danceable rhythms and lasting dreaminess. "Kid Games" also marks the return of guest vocalist Stella Tran, who's first appearance was on "Firefly" from the Melted EP of the Winks & Kisses box set. 

Kid Games is released May 1st on limited edition 12" vinyl and digital formats.
