Chaperone, a Philadelphia native who creates tunes and soundscapes that reflect on the urban psyche, the desire to get away, and the investigation of memory without the pitfall of nostalgia. David Coccagna was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He has releases on labels such as Great Circles, Enmossed Always Human Tapes, and Bastakiya Tapes;

London musician @shek-o –aka Matt Scowcroft– studied at Durham University, specialising in electroacoustic composition and sound design. Although he has been producing music for more than a decade, his release for Lapsus marks his first artist album, perhaps surprising considering the overriding maturity and precision found in his output.

His debut entitled ‘Bancha' was produced throughout 2020 and skilfully demonstrates his affinity for improvisation and modular systems. The 10-track album was predominantly created from longer original compositions that have been meticulously warped and modified, resulting in an innovative and unique body of work.

Although Shek O operates in essentially ambient terrains, the British artist’s influences are wide-ranging. His overall sound bucks convention, with ‘Bancha' incorporating elements of IDM, glitch, deconstructed dub-techno and psychedelic experimental electronica, to form music without complexes or clichés.

‘Bancha' will be released mid-April 2021 on cassette (limited to 50 copies) and all digital formats.

Sofia Acosta is a multidisciplinary artist focusing on sound, DJing and visual arts. Coast2c composes electronic music that shifts from acid, drone and experimental techno.

This variety of sounds is well captured in her latest EP, 'Vault'. The project kicks off with “Bones”, a one take live recording of several different synths. The evocative combination of bells, noise and acid leaves you wanting more. “Time is Not Linear” is a study of synthesis in drum machines and loops, created by the raw and atonal sounds of modular synthesis. “Cornelius” combines ominous keys, scattered percussion, and a vocal sample to create an explosive track. The final cut “Vault” is an attempt to layer live acid sounds with samples on top of the software version of the legendary Linndrum drum machine.

Here’s what Coast2c had to say about the release:

“I wrote this E.P in 2020. It is an archive of my learning process on how to record with hardware and analog gear. After DJing for more than a decade, my interest shifted in producing and in 2018 I dived into learning hardware and modular synthesis. I was drawn to exploring sound and thanks to the community space at S1/ Synth Library in Portland I was able to learn, experiment and record with all sorts of gear. This year (and under the lockdown circumstances with no chances to perform live or DJ) I focused my practice on translating and expanding those sounds into songs so I focused mostly on learning how to use a DAW as it was my most readily available tool to work with. Vault EP is an archive of all those explorations, of trying new things and figuring out solutions to my questions and problems as they arise.”
