Along with the single tracks, LADYMONIX was kind enough to create a mixed version of the record complete with voicemails from friends that I have collected through out this time of isolation. I always wanted to release a mix of original trax & having Monix’s hand as the final touch just feels rite. Artwork by the amazing BAD.

CBY04 DJ Matpat - Club On Hold LP

In this live talk with Tama Sumo, Lakuti and musclecars, the New York legend sets the record straight.

DJ, producer and remixer Yvonne Turner was one of the only women instrumental in shaping New York's early house scene, yet her story has gone largely undocumented. Born in Harlem in 1953, she started DJing regularly by the late '70s, playing weekly parties in Flatbush and getting her musical education at The Loft. There, she says, she learned how "good music" should sound. It inspired her to start going to the studio and sharing her musical revelations with other people.

As a woman producer, she was often relegated to the small print on records, bumped to associate or co-producer status or marked as a mixer instead of a remixer. Many of the male vocalists she worked with got credit for the music. But Turner penned some acclaimed house tracks, such as "Set Fire To Me," "Music Is The Answer" and the official remix of Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight." While Turner took a back seat for a few years, deciding to teach in elementary schools and wind down her touring, she recently got back in the studio and wants to set the record straight about the history of house and her place—and many other women's—within it.

In november 2022 me and my sister in music @dee_diggs were invited to  record a mix for @honeydijon’s takeover of @blessedmadonna’s Sweatbox show on the @bbc6music. To celebrate the release of her album Black Magic Woman. 

This mix was made on our mutual comedown from a very busy ADE week. We put some songs we both had been playing a lot during that time, some sisterhood, some spells and incantations of our own into this housey, dreamy, elixir of a mix.

"Ladiez Drink Free" is the dynamic trio of Mariposa, Drupe Jam, and Perna. These three Florida-raised DJ’s met in Brooklyn, immediately bonding over their passionate experiences through music and how much it means to them. Since beginning to playing collectively in 2022, their sound has become known for its eccentric vocals and hypnotic basslines, resulting in a controlled chaos that entices you. Their individual eclectic tastes find common ground in the ability to create unexpected sets that are flirtatious yet grounding, alluring yet bracing, and unpredictable as they are nostalgic. They recently began a new residency at Bossa Nova Civic Club, where they aim to deliver monthly on their motto "Great Rax, Great Trax." This mix, recorded using 2 turntables and 2 CDJ 350s, showcases their love for blending various eras of music, wandering through classic yet fresh sounds.

"FRANTZ is from Brooklyn, NY and had local radio and Video Music Box shape his tastes before MTV's AMP took hold, which later got him a high school internship at Astralwerks Records/Caroline Distribution picking up on sounds from major label remixes to "strictly underground" labels. Since then he's been committed to chasing cuts that lie somewhere between jovial and frenzied energy on the Rave/Groove spectrum. This naturally led him to a stint at famed digger's delight, The Thing in Greenpoint.
  Having spent some years in Mexico City just as that scene firmly re-established itself in the global view, he found a space within it playing disco, all manner of house, UK garage at famed clubs and parties Sunday Sunday, Departamento, Pervert, Japan, Por Detroit, and Yuyu.
  Since returning to NYC he's continued to forge his sound around town while daytiming as a buyer at Academy Records, of used collections and supporting burgeoning local (and sometimes foreign) electronic artists and labels. More recently he's featured on a V/A release on Death On Wax, contributing a delightfully sleazy disco edit that works on the dancefloor (or a leather bar).  
 This selection for There Is No Planet Earth is a small sharing of forever favorites, re-discoveries, and new obsessions.
