FAUZIA is an artist of many moods. The UK talent moves from IDM to soul on her NTS Radio residency, while her club DJ sets reveal her love for '90s-style breaks, electro and bass-heavy sounds. In the studio, she explores her softer side through self-released homespun dub and ambient jungle.

In recent years, she's gravitated towards live performances. Her gossamer vocals, one of her strongest suits, cuts through live instrumentation like a hummingbird in agile flight. In 2020, the London-based talent told Mixmag that she was done being categorised as a "dance music" artist—and so far, she's succeeded. While she incorporates clubby touchstones into her work, there's a deep level of cross-genre knowledge and blending at play.

FAUZIA's RA podcast makes that clear. Free of any four-to-the-floor music, it moves from experimental jazz to orchestral melodies to R&B ballads for a thoughtful and introspective journey full of her own unreleased music that points towards her newer interest in composition. For the third episode of our Truancy Sessions series, we're thrilled to feature New York-based DJ and promoter Andrew Devlin, renowned for his iconic Level parties. Since its inception in 2014, Level has evolved from filling dancefloors in small Bushwick dive bars to becoming a staple of NYC's nightlife scene, with a recent expansion to Miami showing they are still in ascension. Andrew, along with his team of five residents, has cultivated a musical ethos that spans from tasteful record selections to peak-time party curveballs, showcasing his versatility and range as a gifted DJ. His opening set at Sustain Release in 2022 exemplifies this, seamlessly blending Carly Simon, Beck, Portishead, and Chaka Khan with cutting-edge dance music. We knew Andrew would deliver a stellar selection for our Sessions series, and he has certainly exceeded our expectations.

"Ladiez Drink Free" is the dynamic trio of Mariposa, Drupe Jam, and Perna. These three Florida-raised DJ’s met in Brooklyn, immediately bonding over their passionate experiences through music and how much it means to them. Since beginning to playing collectively in 2022, their sound has become known for its eccentric vocals and hypnotic basslines, resulting in a controlled chaos that entices you. Their individual eclectic tastes find common ground in the ability to create unexpected sets that are flirtatious yet grounding, alluring yet bracing, and unpredictable as they are nostalgic. They recently began a new residency at Bossa Nova Civic Club, where they aim to deliver monthly on their motto "Great Rax, Great Trax." This mix, recorded using 2 turntables and 2 CDJ 350s, showcases their love for blending various eras of music, wandering through classic yet fresh sounds.

Although we only met fairly recently at Honcho Campout, Samira and I are both from the same hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina!! Currently based in Brooklyn, she's also spent a good amount of time in the Pittsburgh underground; co-founding collectives like @dyspheric-x alongside XC-17 (@stephanie-alona-helen) and @yessimusic and Uhaul Disco alongside @johnnyzoloft. Her deejaying is a joy to behold - psychedelic intimacy, passionate + personal, sublimely jacked out improvisational genre-soup flow that I just can't get enough of.

"It was my first time playing at Bossa and I was kinda nervous but also feeling a lot of feelings from the week. I was pulled by cops twice that week, the day before four cops stopped me supposedly for hopping a turnstile, stopped for $2.90... The day of I came in fresh off of a shift at Trans Pecos where I worked a benefit show for Gaza. It featured some powerful performances and a teach-in by DegrowNYC.

Usually, when I'm given opening duties I like to warm things up and keep things a little lighter but I had too much on my heart. I decided that it was more important to speak to what's happening in Gaza, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. I think the mix ended up being a chaotic reflection of what I was feeling. Hopefully it made people reflect with me and wiggle a little bit too."
