In the past two years such mixture has become an intriguingly characteristic sound for Mansa (@mansa-music), a rising producer of Gambian descent who was born in Sweden but now resides in Brussels, and his brand new single 'Sonte Saramala' presents the signature style in its full glory once again revolving around the rhythm played on djembe drums.

Cherry on top comes in a form of a lively remix produced by SHE Spells Doom (@shespellsdoom). The sought-after Zambian artist has been living through quite a breakthrough moment of his career in the recent months with his track making it to the compilation released by the legendary Berlin club Tresor as well as being invited to the Crack Magazine mix series and being selected among the ones to watch in 2022 by Mixmag.

Nguzunguzu Boiler Room Los Angeles DJ Set

I have been wanting to record another crisis mix for months & told myself I'd do it in between my summer tour and fall tour dates. I'm about to go back on tour tomorrow. I mixed this just tonight. I woke up today and knew. I put it off because I put most things off but I've also been a little stuck at “whats the point” since August. Since I started djing i've cared a lot about integrating middle eastern music and sound into my mixes and production. I opened up the first crisis mix with a maybe cheesy drop “fuck assimilation forever.” I cared a lot about things like visibility, preserving my culture. Now I think, Middle eastern people are already pretty integrated into racist, white U.S.A, I hate being so visible, and preserving a culture with a violent history and no current concept of solidarity is maybe dumb. I find my victimized mentality sometimes makes my own pain worse... I would like instead to think and act in ways that materially confront the ways I am complicit in the degradation of those I love. I want the crisis to end. I've never been a “music is just for fun” kind of person, but damn the way my mind has been moving its dead serious. I love and appreciate everyone who supports me and has expressed that they find/connect with something meaningful or moving about my work. Ultimately... I don't know shit.  ._. This has been part of my internal dialogue/struggle for years (“identity crisis” was 2 years ago) but I speak very selectively because I hate the way my words will be (re)contextualized, given way too much weight, and it comes out like a “complaint” irrelevant to my world of privilege. 

If there is no selfless use of music, at least it is a tool to aid thought/processing realities. I personally can't think straight in silence. Surviving this world leaves very little time for meditation, purposeful thoughtfulness, and thoughtlessness makes survival that much harder. Wtf.. But please try to work through the grief and guilt. & Turn the mix off if you think it's wack as hell.

The crisis mix series showcases east coast club music with traditional and contemporary middle eastern music.

CLUB CHAI is a record label, event series and curatorial project founded by 8ULENTINA and Lara Sarkissian (fka FOOZOOL) in Oakland, California. CLUB CHAI centers diasporic artists with the intention of carving out sounds and spaces that consider the ways we build narratives as a reflection of our current and future selves. We believe in the transformative abilities of storytelling through sound and honoring its creation of genres and movements for marginalized people throughout the history of electronic music. CLUB CHAI hosted regular events in Oakland and San Francisco while participating in an international network of artists and collaborators. CLUB CHAI held showcases in New York City and London, and have also presented at Unsound Festival Krakow (2019), Mexico City, Milan, and a UK tour in collaboration with TT label. The label hosted shows and streams on NTS radio, Rinse FM, Lower Grand Radio, and Boiler Room.
