Tash's Movement Recordings opens the new year by welcoming Weird Sounding Dude back to the label for his debut EP. As one of India's rising musical mavericks, Weird Sounding Dude has emerged from his country's electronic landscape as a premiere progressive house talent. Long a favourite of genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Cid Inc, the Bangalore resident often touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling the divide between intergalactic design and groove-centric hypnotism. With a career that now spans a decade, Weird Sounding Dude has compiled an impressive discography with standout releases via Anjunadeep, Hoomidaas, The Soundgarden and Sudbeat Music. Movement Recordings has also been a landing spot for the scene veteran, with a contribution to the label's 'GLBLMVMT3 - Exploring India' collection marking his debut in 2020, a project which would lead to a 2021 remix of Not Demure's 'Aifos'. Now, as 2023 begins to take shape, Weird Sounding Dude returns to Movement Recordings with a two-track showcase entitled 'Fallen Poet'.

The title selection finds Weird Sounding Dude composing with a strong sense of rhythm and groove. Beginning with a smooth pulse, its smoky resonance eventually reveals a backbone of monolithic beats and thunderous bass stabs. Instantly seductive, it's this muscular framework which provides the vehicle for panoramic textures and dissonant synth blasts to work their magic, ultimately resulting in a resounding dance floor escapade.

Meanwhile, the companion piece 'Lost Ark' lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship, as Weird Sounding Dude reaffirms his ability to tip a dancefloor over the edge. Mountainous grooves and clever rhythmic co-actions underpin a fascinating blend of striking chord stabs, balmy atmospherics and muted piano's, the latter of which provides a heartfelt interlude, before confidently returning to the groove for a heads down finale.

Welcoming a new collaborative pairing to Meanwhile Horizons, Jiminy Hop & Dofamine join forces for a debut EP in the shape of “Veresk / Yoke”.

An established figure within the underground dance fraternity, Konstantin Kuranakov continues to strengthen his reputation through the Jiminy Hop moniker. An accomplished DJ with production credentials to rival any, his music has been a fixture on such esteemed imprints as Plaisirs Sonores, Colorize and Juicebox Music. A pair of original EPs have followed on GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint as March 2022’s “Johlin” and September’s “Levera / Agmoli” hit Meanwhile. A similarly impressive artist, Dofamine can boast almost a double century of production credits to his name dating back to a Stripped Digital debut in mid-2014. Since then, releases for Clinique Recordings, Bonzai Progressive, Suffused Music and Stellar Fountain have lit up the progressive house scene. Although remixing Jiminy Hop for Just Movement and Shambhala Music in 2016 and 2017, the duo now join forces for the first time to create a magical twin-track EP.

“Veresk” quickly establishes itself with potent percussive foundation and fizzing shaker pattern. Textured pads and free-flowing melodic lines create the sensation of warm dappled sunlight as they gradually build into longer sequences and coruscating patterns. Pausing for breath at a stripped back breakdown, white-noise swirls and rich sonic layers emerge unencumbered before the track hits its stride one more in the second half with a deep rolling groove and a new light synth motif.

A cavernous sub-bass and metronomic beat characterise the opening stages of “Yoke” as a pulsating white-noise backdrop sits perfectly against a shimmering arpeggio. Evolving easily, an emotive key change adds subtle dynamism as new melodic elements are introduced, not least through a beautiful piano sequence that extends into a sublime and atmospheric break. Gradually building once more with vibrant dance-friendly rhythm and subterranean bass, “Yoke” enters its third movement with a cast of complementary synth lines and smooth rising energy. The result is a powerful and impressive track full of poise and craft.

Showing rare talent and immaculate production skill, Jiminy Hop & Dofamine have come together to create a seamless partnership with “Veresk /Yoke”.

An artist with a long and rich musical heritage, Paul Deep makes his Proportion debut with the 3-track "Fazed" EP. A single remix come from Greek artist, Blusoul.

From the town of O'Brien, part of the Buenos Aires province, Paul Deep has been a mainstay of the progressive house scene with his immaculate fusing of rhythm and melody. For almost a decade his releases have featured on an array of esteemed imprints that include GMJ and Matter's Meanwhile, Juan Pablo Torrez's Clubsonica Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Over a double century of production credits thus tell their own story of Paul Deep's success as he makes his debut on Proportion with "Fazed".

Built upon a heavy beat and ticking percussive groove, the title track gently evolves with a range of melodic phrases that blends with sumptuous pads and shimmering arpeggios in an emotive combination. Waxing and waning with dancefloor knowhow, an exquisitely syncopated motif rolls forward with metronomic intensity to reveal a deep progressive gem. "Barion" continues the trademark rhythmic depth and rolling groove while textured pads and filtered motif enter the fray with typical subtlety and intensity. A beautiful piano sequence develops during the breakdown while a crescendo of delayed synth work paves the way for the dynamic groove to drop back into place alongside occasion vocal flourishes. Immediately revealing a slightly lighter touch and feel, "Ashura Path" excites with its off-beat hi-hats and punchy kick. Developing an expansive and beautifully cadenced synth pattern, delayed notes cascade across the stereo spectrum. Continuing a sparkling path across proceedings, the track reaches a rousing filtered denouement at the beatless mid-point before building once more through the final movement. Creamy pads and atmospheric swells add to the melange creating an intoxicating mix.

A long-term proponent of underground house movement dating back to a 2009 debut for The Sound of Everything, Harris Sgourdas has carved out a sizeable reputation over 15 years with his Blusoul soubriquet. An accomplished DJ and renowned figure in his Athens home city, plus producer of a portfolio of successful progressive house gems, the Greek star has found his work allied to some of the fines modern imprints that include the likes of Juice Box Music, Movement Recordings and Guy J's Lost and Found. Making his Proportion debut, the Blusoul remix of "Fazed" builds around the rhythmic groove of the original before evolving effortlessly with intelligent use of familiar themes found within Paul Deep's track. Rising and falling, a gathering sonic storm drives forwards as new melodic elements make their presence felt at the breakdown before extending through the second half with strong chord progression and club-friendly framework. The result is a powerful new interpretation that showcases craft and technique in abundance.

PREMIERE: Paul Deep - Barion (Original Mix) [PROPORTION]

Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint rounds out the month of April by showcasing new interpretations of 'Amirim' by Choopie and Golan Zocher. With a career that spans the better part of three decades, Israeli artist Choopie is widely regarded as one of his country's premiere electronic music talents. Releases via Bedrock and Yoshitoshi laid the groundwork for what has been a storied career, one which has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. Meanwhile, Colombian born, Israel based artist Golan Zocher has enjoyed similar success across his five-year career, landing releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Paired occasionally since 2020, Choopie and Golan have masterfully synthesized their talents and found that creative balance between progressive and organic house, taking their enchanting sound to Mango Alley, Sol Selectas and Choopie's own Agnosia Black imprint. Madloch's Sound Avenue has also been a landing spot for the duo, with 'Alush' highlighting the label's popular Correlation series in 2021, ultimately leading to 2022's three-track showcase 'Amirim'. Now, looking to build on the success of 'Amirim', Sound Avenue invites Kyotto, Inherent (AU)
and Figueras to re-imagine the EP for 2023's spring season.

Golan Zocher, Choopie - Noche De Sueño (Kyotto Remix) [Sound Avenue]

Clubsonica Records continues a strong spring season by welcoming K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren to the label for their debut EP. Russian artist K Loveski has been a beloved figure of the progressive house underground for well over a decade. A series of releases for Omid 16B's Alola Records spearheaded what has been a thirteen-year creative swell. The Saint-Petersburg resident now boasts a resume highlighted by releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Balance Music, Mango Alley and Or Two Strangers, while also earning the support of Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J along the way. Meanwhile, Argentinean artist Geronimo Eguiguren has also made his mark since first emerging in 2019. Longstanding imprints Balkan Connection, Droid9 and Soundteller Records were comfortable homes for Geronimo early on. However, it was 2022 which proved to be a breakout year for the Buenos Aires resident, with a release via Antrim's Or Two Strangers yielding play and support from Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Sebastien Leger. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren make their Clubsonica debut with 'Chaia | Kamikaze', alongside remixes from Simos Tagias and Ruben Karapetyan. 

Beginning with 'Chaia' K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren masterfully synthesize their talents into one singular progressive minded vision. Warm beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of youthful vocal fragments, cosmic effects and heartfelt harmonics. Pushing a melodic mood into the break; the duo marries emotive chord changes with balmy synth phrasing; building emotion with each successive pass as additional vocal fragments tease the senses, before eventually giving way to a thumping drop and groovy finale. The companion piece 'Kamikaze' continues the groovy lean of the release and lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Smooth and uplifting throughout, it's a foundation of warm pulsating beats and chunky bass stabs which set the course for effervescent effects, whimsical vocal elements and panoramic synths to captivate leading into the break. Charming synth phrases and choir-like pads further the story as the centrepiece unfolds, bringing with them reflective moods and serene qualities, before a tasteful drop puts your senses on high for an emotive conclusion.

The first interpretation of 'Kamikaze' is provided by Simos Tagias. Clubsonica has been a comfortable home for the Greek artist, having remixed two projects for the label beginning with his debut in 2018. Now, following his latest vehicle for GMJ and Matter's Meanwhile, Simos makes a welcome return to Clubsonica with a poignant rendition of 'Kamikaze'. While maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Greek artist crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, one where redolent themes and heartfelt sonics blanket voluptuous grooves and flashing percussive arrangements. Coming to full fruition across the main break, it's a bucolic college of texture and effects which serves to elevate mood onwards to a thumping finale. 

The release concludes with Ruben Karapetyan. Now, following a contribution to The Soundgarden's Winter Sampler, Ruben makes his Clubsonica debut with a powerful take on ‘Kamikaze´. Smooth and inviting across the first movement, Ruben continues his stylized ways with rippling grooves, precise percussive arrangements and whimsical melodies creating a colourful path into the main break. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space, luminous effects and sweeping harmonies rise out of calming atmospheres as the interlude evolves, eventually breaking off as a flurry of drums sparks a pulsating drop and charming finale. A stunning remix from Ruben, which rounds out an impressive label debut from K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren, an artist duo who continues to impress and rise in the world of progressive house.

Beginning the new year in style, Cid Inc's Replug Records welcomes GMJ and Matter back to the label for a two-track showcase. Based in Melbourne, the Aussie duo have been beloved figures in the global progressive house scene for over a decade. Having forged a distinctive sound which focuses on inventive use of melody and rhythm, the duo has drawn the lines between global dance cultures without adhering to any fixed formula. Whether operating in solo capacity or as a duo, GMJ and Matter have taken their elusive production touch to the industry's most esteemed imprints. From Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and UK behemoth Anjunadeep, to Australia's long-standing Balance Music and their own burgeoning Meanwhile imprint, it's GMJ and Matter's storytelling style that continues to surprise and inspire even the genre's most discerning trendsetters. Replug has also served as a landing spot for the talented Aussie's, with the release of Matter's ‘Satori' EP marking his label debut in 2017, while GMJ first arrived in 2016 with a contribution to the label's Replugged, Vol. 2 collection. Now, fresh off their latest Meanwhile vehicle ‘EXT 135', GMJ and Matter land back on Replug to begin the new year with ‘Metanoia'. 

As a recent favourite of Replug boss Cid Inc, EP opener and title selection 'Metanoia' finds GMJ and Matter composing with a strong sense of space. Instantly seductive, its looping hypnotism and subtle musicality never fail to command your attention, driving each other into a whirlpool of spiralling emotions, making for a flexible club track that bends between scenes while injecting vibrant energy into the dancefloor. Rich atmospheres, effervescent percussion and dubbed out tones are at a premium across the eight-minute excursion, with each sound being an event in a slowly expanding landscape, zooming out to reveal a world of scale in which depth and contrast coax perfectly with rhythm and melody. 

Moving forward to selection two, GMJ and Matter masterfully synthesize their talents into one singular meditative vision that is 'In Bloom'. Building with a subdued pulse, its smoky resonance eventually gives way to melodic experimentation, where textural and structural dimensions blanket subterranean wobbles and tightly knit percussion, resulting in a profound mood setting experience. Thematically distinct throughout, the duo's misty melodies are haunting and highly memorable, ringing out in timeless suspension across a mood lifting break, before segueing into a utopian finale that resonates with a rare combination of hope and reflection.

The 'Metanoia' project is a fantastical journey across a vivid electronic cosmos, one where GMJ and Matter carefully balance technical vision, with thought-provoking musicality and elaborate rhythmic sequences, making for a two-track affair that brings us closer to knowing the enigmatic duo, while continuing to live in the mystery of their design.
