Cluster Node Transmissions #1 - Similarch

Ghost Tracks is the first EP of equally named producers presented by Cluster Node and a wonderful example of aery synthetic meditations. With the combinations of acoustic and electronic instrumentation, soiled traces of noise and mixed modes of experimentation, each song presents a peculiar intimacy and effortlessness.

With a curious sensibility to its composition, the EP is clouded with synths, noise textures and sporadic vocals and it is somehow hard to define whether the music intends to elevate us or keep us grounded. It is an EP as textural as it is melodic. The five tracks hover elegantly through electro-acoustic environments and more often than not conclude into beaming reveries. What is certain is that Ghost Tracks is a versatile exploration of contemporary electronic music.

NWRMNTC is the solo project of Ana Quiroga, former LCC (@lascasicasiotone). Formerly known under a live alias, Øliver emerged as a self-titled solo artist in 2016, the latest electronic project from London-based, Oliver Gibson. Born from within the capitals neglected walls and spaces, Øliver's musical interests lay at an intersection between raw Post-Punk, sharp EBM and machine-cut Techno. 

Working with a DIY aesthetic, the alias was founded on a non-purist approach, a resistance against convention.

Cluster Node Radio Show w/ NWRMNTC on Threads Radio - 03/05/19

Bogotá born and Berlin based Brayan Valenzuela gives us three powerful originals for Cluster Node’s fifth release titled ‘Pink Dog’ (CN005), alongside two raging remixes by VSK and Kaylah. 

‘You Are Not Perfect’ explodes the EP into existence with piercing synths, violent percussions and a kick that is as energetic as it is merciless. Title track ‘Pink Dog’ then takes us on a ruthless voyage, featuring sinister vocal samples, shrieking synth-lines to lock you up in the savage zone inside someone else’s head. ‘No More Games’ with its harsh disrupted rhythms, overdriven scream-like noise to freakishly tranquil guitar melodies, is a monstrous track audibly obsessed with horrors of all kinds. 

VSK’s disorientingly meditative remix of ‘No More Games’ continues our journey into the underworld with this track, distinctive of the producer’s vivid sound, while Kaylah’s brutal remix of ‘Pink Dog’ finally crashes the EP in a blaze. 

Brayan Valenzuela’s devotion to modular synths alongside masses of distorted energy and punching kicks characterise his sound and make the EP twenty-four carat dance-floor ammunition.

Ayarcana makes his debut on Cluster Node bringing with him his signature sound and style. The EP, titled ‘Cheap Rents and Haunted Houses’ (CN0006) consists of two destructive original tracks and two equally crushing remixes by Peryl and Outlander.

Sinister and slightly oppressive, the title evokes a shadowy reminiscence of some of the darker facets of life in the artist’s hometown of choice, Berlin. Side A. introduces us to the two original tracks, characterized by Ayarcana’s lethal kicks, monstrous modular noise and powerful synths, they are spinning us around, forcing us to face what we went through as we look ahead. 

Disorder, noise, pressure and paranoia, culminate in an electric storm, continuously upping the voltage to the next level. Ayarcana truly embodies the heavy hitting, relentless, industrial menace that he creates and routinely executes his listeners with. 

Influences like hardcore punk, harsh noise and black metal have always been an undeniable presence in the artist’s sound and there is no doubt that the energy in the tracks is filled with an unsettlement and yet the effect is immediate; surrendering to mental destruction has never sounded so appealing.

On the B. side, two uncompromising remixes of ‘Cheap Rents and Haunted Houses’ continue the EP. Peryl’s version immediately transports the listener to a dystopian landscape of menacing atmospheres and sharp, distorted noises, while Outlander’s interpretation completes the EP with a brutal storm of rave energy ready to tear down the club, taking no prisoners.

Balrog is a producer and DJ from the UK.

Hailing from the Yorkshire Dales just outside of Leeds, Balrog has supplanted himself in the darker and grittier side of industrial techno with a focus on heavy unrelenting drums, driving bass and obscure distorted vocal. His tracks look back to the classic hard and grooving techno of the early 2000's, but with a fresh injection of modern industrial power.

This young producer has gone from strength to strength over the last few years with multiple releases on exciting techno labels including The Meaning Of Rave, COUP, Green Fetish, Taro, Blacklapse, Måinmise, Archivio 01 and Gobsmacked. These releases and unreleased tracks have received support from some of the biggest in the scene including Dax J, Rebekah, Paula Temple, Stephanie Sykes, Manni Dee, Gijensu, Tham, SHDW & Obscure Shape, Dahryl and many more.

Balrog also runs his own record label, Khazad Records, which releases music from the very best industrial and hard techno talent around.
