I wanted to do another Jazz standard with just my trusty old Gretsch with no bass or drums. Travis/Atkins fingerpicking on one track and some walking bass and fills on the the other track.

With thoughts about the people I know or have known with Dementia the idea of Clouds forming in the mind and drifting around causing various blockages of memory and getting worse and worse got me thinking about the correlation to the clouds in the sky and how they behave with no control from any human being and this song was born.

Listen to "mistermark" on Soundcloud. He has recorded some very cool and groovy tracks.When I heard this track on Soundclouds Jazz playlist I messaged mistermark and asked permission to attempt to add my guitar inspiration in the mix and he very graciously said okay. I laid in a comping chord track and a lead guitar track and attempted to maintain the melody I heard in there. I used a stereo chorus effect on this particular mixdown.

Another Funky/ Reggae track .The Groove was created by Mistermark who came up with the Bass, drums. organ , percussion and horn sounds. In itself it is a mesmerizing rhythm track that stands on its own nerits.  But,  being a guitarist, when I hear an infectious rhythm like this I want to grab my guitar and join the band. I added a rhythm guitar comping throughout and  then drifted a lead guitar in and out so as to allow the cool stuff of the basic track to shine through and not be lost.

Sneaky Reggae

Such a popular guitar tune. When I heard it on the radio in 1959 I actually thought about learning the steel guitar. My brother Cliff had an acoustic Hawaiian guitar and was taking lessons. He said stay with the Spanish guitar and we could be like Santo and Johnny.
However, we heard more hits coming from Duane Eddy and The Ventures so we kind of  copied them, but we always liked hearing Sleep Walk by whoever covered it too.

How Deep Is Your Love

Well this is  Bert Kaempfert's Moon Over Naples instrumental. Charles Singleton And Eddie Snydor wrote lyrics to the melody and called it Blue Spanish Eyes. Almost everybody under the sun has sung the song ,the biggest hit probably was sung by Al Martino. I pulled the heavy bass line and a bit of the orchestra from a Bert  Kaempfert Vinyl 331/3 lp I have. i then added a steady chording guitar track. I then played the melody straight and pure a la Duane Eddy's tremelo twang sound. To that I played another guitar with a delay sound to get the melody and fills an octave higher.

Blue Spanish Eyes

I was totally thinking about Duane Eddy when I improvised this tune I never met the man but I am still saddened by his recent passing. It feels like I knew him. I listened to him play his Guitar since I was 14. His sound more than anything hooked me on the idea of even trying to learn to play a guitar .Many guitarists have inspired me to play but Duane was the first. I just wanted to create a new guitar tune based on my love of his big Twangy Guitar sound and just feel a bit of Duane in my soul.
I played lead,rythym and bass guitars but the drummer was Les Brown Jr.

Used my 1962 Gretsch 6120 for all three guitar tracks and did a little finger drumming to put together my version of a 1962 instrumental hit.
