Dekmantel Selectors 2021 was a much needed musical reunion. After the preceding period of stillness, the catharsis and pure joy of finally being together again has been overwhelming. In the words of Simo Cell: "It's 7pm, and I have 5 missed calls on my phone: 'We're expecting massive rain tonight and we will have to close your stage earlier, is it okay for you to play earlier?' No time to stress and to think about it. I left my place and started my set straight away. From a few people to a packed dancefloor, I built up slowly from 90bpm to 160bpm (you know the drill). Pretty happy about the progression of the set and the rise in intensity. In the end, the crowd turned into a mosh pit on XXXtentacion and I had the best time behind the decks. It's good when things sometimes happen spontaneously like that. And it didn't rain after all."

This set was recorded at Public Records in NYC. In Your Dirty Ears currently hosts a residency at Public Records. Amelia also hosts a bi-monthly radio residency on @movement-radio-athens.

Cut from the In Your Dirty Ears residency at Public Records, the mix spans from trip hop and dub to bass heavy dance music with Amelia Holt on for the first hour, followed by Yumi for the later hour and a half. Why do you think it's important to DJ? 

A way to tell your story, to be part of a cultural archive and a sharing in folklore/ grassroots. Important to look at djng as a way to connect the dots between sounds and people (not capital). 

Describe your favorite club in the world?

Almost always parties put on by friends in places off the beaten path. Most memorably, any party that’s happened in the woods of Stanley Park.

What do you miss most about clubbing?

Describe the vibe of your first DJ set?

Sleepy sunday vibe at a Tiki bar in Vancouver BC with the 30 guitar records I owned at the time.

Describe what you would want your rider to look like as a DJ all star playing Ibiza…

Sensory deprivation tank, oxygen bar and gummy bear chandelier.
 
Describe the first moment where you had an epiphany about your love for music?

Getting a discman in concurrence of the napster advent and burning cds felt special and allowed me to discover so much music! 

Favorite weird drug experience? 

Hooping MDMA and going to Robert Johnson for the first time.

Any advice about what to do with free time during this moment of social distancing?
