Beau Wanzer grew up moving between the states of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Dressed in black the teenage Wanzer would brave the deep southern heat visiting record stores to purchase CDs with the most whacked out album covers. This methodology led him to the works of Skinny Puppy, Sleep Chamber, Absolute Body Control and a host of other industrial, noise and punk bands. Whilst Wanzer played guitar in bands for over eight years he bought his first synthesiser, a Roland Juno-6 at the end of the 1990s and began creating his own synth music. A short while later he moved to Chicago to study molecular biology and began working at Weekend Records & Soap in 2001. It wasn’t until a couple of years later that he began to consider the possibility of releasing his music following a friendship with Melvin Oliphant III, a.k.a. Traxx. The two recorded music together as Mutant Beat Dance and Wanzer’s first solo piece, ‘F.U. Klaxon’ came out on Traxx’ Nation record label in 2008. Wanzer participates in frequent collaborations exploring various aspects of noise and sound, for example creating rhythmic techno as Civil Duty with Sean O’Sullivan and somewhat raucous synth & electro with Elon Katz under the Streetwalker moniker, a project which saw the release of an album on Cititrax in 2013. Wanzer has released a variety of music under his own name across labels such as L.I.E.S. Russian Torrent Versions and his own imprint BW, secreting grotty synth and drum machine workouts, not quite techno, not quite punk but scuzzy mutant hybrids of the two. Wanzer released his debut album on BW in October 2014. Music for the lost and the damned and those that want to be.

Chris Imler, who alternates between eternal street boy and dubious magician, has succeeded in upgrading to a prophet with his third record. The 12-inch, completed in January and released on May 22nd on vinyl, is exaggeratedly up to date. Though it would never occured to him in his wildest nightmares while doing it, Chris Imler produced the soundtrack for the state of emergency. „Ich mess die Zeit in Katastrophen / Die Skala ist nach oben offen / Das Haus stürzt ein, es brennt die Stadt / Ein Laserstrahl weist mir den Weg zum Country Club“ says the chorus of “Country Club”. The music itself sounds like an emergency from the first second on. Synths like deeply pitched sirens, a beat like ground troops. And also the second song with the again ridiculously contemporary title “Protect Myself” provides appropriate voodoo vibrations.

Imler couldn't have found better remixers than INIT (Benedikt Frey & Nadia D’Alò / two thirds of the R.i.O. label) and Debmaster (Julien Deblois / Nyege Nyege label), who consistently drive the sound into dark rotations.

With the best of intentions, the worldwide public sitting in their rooms cannot expect more than the cathartic distraction gathered in these four songs.

Suction Records welcomes Roger Semsroth back to the label - having previously released 2 full-length albums with us under his retired electro-pop alias, Skanfrom. “Grøndal” (suction051) is the debut vinyl release under a new alias, Nordvest. These days, Semsroth is best-known for his stark and minimalist techno project, Sleeparchive. The material on Grøndal - icy, melodic, and mostly beatless - is comprised of tracks that were originally released digitally as Sleeparchive, via Bandcamp. The releases were met with general disinterest from Sleeparchive fans, prompting Semsroth to re-brand them as Nordvest, before removing them from Bandcamp altogether.

We’ve chosen 11 highlights from 3 of those digital albums, “Rooftops & Chaotic Streets”, “Scribbles”, and “Sleepless”, for a cohesive 11-track LP of austere, synthetic ambience. Think Tangerine Dream as reinterpreted by Incunabula-era Autechre, and you might be getting somewhere close. While “Rooftops & Chaotic Streets Seven” recalls Sleeparchive, and “Sleepless Six” could very well be a lost Skanfrom track, the rest of the LP clearly warrants a new alias - Nordvest is a new side of Semsroth that we haven’t heard before.
