Kyoto-born, Berlin-based DJ, producer and artist, Alex Kassian has become a firm favourite of ours over here at Phonica over the past couple of years. His sophisticated, lush and organic sounding productions have been picked up by labels such as Paramida’s Love On The Rocks and Alex Bradley’s Utopia Records in recent years. His most recent release, Leave Your Life, was released in 2021 via Pinchy & Friends, and we can safely say it was one of our most-played, and bestselling, records of the year.

Together with Hiroaki OBA, Alex is also one-half of Opal Sunn, who have been operating their own imprint Planet Sundae since 2017, through which they self-released a number of EPs, catching the attention of and support from dance music luminaries such as Andrew Weatherall and DJ Sprinkles.

@petermarks is the co-founder of @occasionvibration, which puts on some of the most talked about dance music events in Portland. He’s also a political activist who’s built digital tools for Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden and some of the largest labor unions in the country. The intersection of these two worlds is explored on his podcast “Rhythm Nation”, which features conversations with politically influenced musicians and musically influenced activists. 

Today, 9/4/2020, sees his debut release on @bottomforty with @sappho-presents-chingo. Their track “Lime Appeal” creeps in around the 9 minute mark of this hour long odyssey of tripped out dub, breezy house and breaks, 303-laced electro and low-slung disco. End of July, 17 artists gathered together to show love & support towards vulnerable members of our society with the gift of music. Orchestrated by Freeride Millenium a charity compilation for the Austrian organization Queer Base - Welcome and Support for LGBTIQ Refugees saw the day of light.

Queer Base offers social and legal counseling to LGBTQI+ refugees who arrive in Austria, including providing help with court cases, finding housing, community events, organising German lessons, HIV/STI testing, and more. Further details can be found at https://queerbase.at/ Now left in a hiatus due to the worldwide pandemic the organization needs the support by a global community in order to continue their quality and viable work.

Massimiliano Pagliara, Benjamin Fröhlich, Zamal & Jorkes gathered together and recorded a 5 hours long fun session at the Romantica in Stuttgart.
