Co-Select Presents 016: MMMC

After a long hiatus, the Co-Select Presents series returns with the first mix of 2022. Get hyped for Ryo Kurashina, a DJ who has been around London for the past couple of years and is a very close friend of ours. In this mix he brings through a dark energy that gives reminders of the likes of Lee Gamble or Andy Stott, filled with rhythms and ethereal sounds, a left-of-centre hypnotic dystopia.

Ryo is one of the core members of the SODAA collective and helps coordinate the Radio team who have successfully run takeovers at Netil Radio and Boat Live. Alongside his work with SODAA, Ryo holds residencies at 1020 Radio and Loose FM with shows on alternating months.

Having bonded over a particularly nerdy level of obsession over some of our favourite deep techno artists, I've loved watching Amani grow as a DJ - they have played two Animalia events in the past, showcasing their incredible building abilities & class taste from bass to dnb to deep techno & minimal electro cuts. This mix is a sublime continuation of so.. deep, chuggy, bassy rollers.

SCRAMBLED LEGS MIX RECIPE
Combine 100 tbsp of techno and a pinch of trance until the mix has just one consistency, then add a knob of hardcore and let it blend. Don’t allow the beat to drown or it will decelerate the legs.
Keep stirring, lifting and folding them over. Let them sit for another 10 seconds then stir and fold again. Repeat until the legs are set and slightly runny in places. Remove from the heat and leave for a moment until it kicks in. Your legs will now be perfectly scrambled.

D-Joyce is from Morocco and moved to Istanbul in 2018, where he became involved in the local bass music scene. He hosts weekly radio show OH YEAH alongside Co-select’s Emmy Bacharach on the Istanbul-based station Radyo Modyan.
