Over 3 years in the making and meticulously constructed from an archive of over 4 gigabyte of old-school rave nostalgia, Glowstyx successfully manages to deliver 12 tracks that seemingly are warped here from over more than a decade ago.  Somehow the charm, humor and excitement of Rave got lost in the growing popularity of synthetic repetitive dance music; focusing less on hooks, catchy melodies and simple song structures. Those who are aware of dgoHn will by now be familiar with his sound and those who aren’t should be. Back with his third single on Love Love, the drum maestro makes skin prickle once again with two shining original tracks laced with impeccable moments. Only dgoHn can create the kind of drum and bass that sounds like the tightest of ensembles playing meticulously rehearsed arrangements, painting intricate shapes with the percussion. 
 
The title track takes a fresh look at the amen break, finding ways to breathe new life into it. Soaring above the clouds on thick warm pads the drums thunder with a blissful rage, propelled forwards by a rumbling bassline. On the B-side ‘Dooky’ serves up a dgoHn masterclass in spatial control that could well be a future-classic of his. A formidable groove with serious punch, hi-hats skip along as the delicate balance of frequencies gives the listener just enough headspace not to get lost in the deep, dark world it creates. A subtle demonstration of tension and release, this single floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee whilst dripping with funk.
 
Lastly, Rognvald switches up the title track with a jam that triples the edits and doubles the bass, tipping the scales from the side of restraint to that of chaos without losing the feel of the original. Artwork once again provided by Colin ‘Snublic’ McCallister.

Dispondant’s Acid Jazz EP is a near-future paranoia soundtrack that could as well be the ending credits of the next Black Mirror season. Each episode has its minimal and focussed intent from captivating synth pads and flashlight 160 bpm beats to signalling 303 lines and anodyne chords. Yet it is the sum of its parts that made the Londoner’s debut release on Defrostatica Records not just a fit but a label blueprint of modern footwork inspired electronic music.

Ruby My Dear - Altaïr [LOVWAX10 CLIPS]

I think most artists have some personal goals they set for themselves when creating their art. Some might strive for some technical achievement that underlay the artistic ones which might be more personally important for them. Others just want to see how far they could push something. This track, Fauvist Respoke, is perhaps my greatest achievement in sample manipulation. I had wanted this to be a 20 minute prog-opus, a la "Fragile", and while it's about half that length, you get a whole ton of ideas packed in there.

My only real regret in my carer so far is that this - my "best" track - only was available as the B-side to the Vinyl version of the "Lady Fantasy EP". And that pressing wasn't so awesome.  But hopefully by posting it here, as well as by spreading it on other sites (CRD, etc) I can give it a bit of new life....
