It’s going to be a big year for Tincture’s Luke Dalton. He's back with the follow up single from his forthcoming EP, “Tryst”, which is set to cement his place in the scene as a force to be reckoned with.

Similar Circles represents a progression in his sound, borrowing influence from acts like Shelter Point and The Knife, yet never forsaking his penchant for lush synth and sharp percussion. At it's heart, Similar Circles grapples with the fear of stagnation through routine. Though you can feel a sense of yearning, the track never quite reaches the anxious resolve it strives for - "repeating, repeating, repeating until the same things come back again".

At some point in 2013, Friendly Fires, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay (aka The Asphodells), convened in an east London pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. The plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles - a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal.

The collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful Friendly Fires albums – 2008’s debut Friendly Fires and 2011’s follow up Pala – and an acclaimed debut album from The Asphodells in 2013’s Ruled By Passion Destroyed By Lust, the latest in a long line of classic releases from Andrew Weatherall’s own Rotters Golf Club label.

Recording took place between Weatherall’s Shoreditch studio, The Bunker, and Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane’s basement studio just a short stroll down the road in Farringdon, using a desk that once belonged to influential German producer Konrad ‘Conny’ Plank to mix the tracks.

The result is ‘Before Your Eyes’ and ‘Velo’ - two brand new tracks that take close to ten minutes each to reveal their full hypnotic glory. The tracks will be released as a AA-sided single on 12” and download and will be the inaugural release on Friendly Fires’ own Telophase label.

In 2010 Rökkurró released the studio album Í Annan Heim (produced by Alex Somers of Jónsi fame) to an unexpected wave of critical acclaim - not just within their native Iceland but internationally. The album spent a staggering 100 weeks in the Icelandic chart’s Top 30, while international media such as NME, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, CMU Daily and KEXP Radio championed the band. Three years on, Rökkurró returned to the studio with two new members Helga (piano) and Skúli (bass) to record their follow-up second album  which is set for release in late 2014.

In October 2013, Rökkurró released a teaser from the new album in the form of English-speaking album track Killing Time, a three-minute, stripped-down piece of music that talks about “a person who feels young, but their body is failing them and how getting old is a misleading thing,” said Rökkurró vocalist Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir.“Our new sound has a few obvious changes. We have added more electronic elements. I have taken a break from the cello and have replaced it with a synthesiser.” This time around, production was done by renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Helgi Hrafn Jónsson. “His ideas are fresh and we liked the fact that he chooses the artists he works with very carefully. We found out very soon that we shared a common vision for this project and that is really important.” - Stefánsdóttir.

Rökkurró self-release their new album later this year, on CD, Vinyl and Digitally. The album release will be preceded by the single The Backbone (released on 11 August 2014) - also available in a limited handmade edition (120 copies).

The Backbone was composed in January and recorded in February 2014. "We took a break from the album recordings, as we felt we needed new songs with a different feel from the ones we had already recorded. This song came through quite quickly. It changed quite a bit in the recording session and soon afterwards we felt this could be one of the strongest tracks on the album," explains Stefánsdóttir.

"Even though the song has quite a chilled vibe, the rockier bit was probably the sweatiest recording session of the entire album! We had to record that part many times - as it needed to be tight - and by the end everyone had taken most of their clothes off..I think you can hear the half-naked vibe, if you listen closely," jokes Stefánsdóttir.

The lyrics to 'The Backbone' are about the Reykjavík neighbourhood Stefánsdóttirgrew up in, and how it changed over the years, just as she has changed."Things seem totally different as we grow and see them in new perspectives that make us realise how simple our view was. But the innocence of pure curiosity has also a beauty to it," she says.

When asked about the idea behind a handmade single, Stefánsdóttir explains: "We've always been a DIY band. We love making things ourselves. The very first thing we ever released was a 4-track EP that we recorded and crafted ourselves. We hadn't made any special items for a long time and we wanted to go straight back to where we started. The only difference now is, that the single is professionally recorded. Our drummer Bibbi is definitely the most artistic in the band. He is always making beautiful things, whether it's a lamp, a memo book or a painting. He made the covers from scratch, painted, cut and glued them. None of the covers are the same. They are all different and unique which makes them even more cool. They are made from huge abstract paintings that Bibbi then cut down and made into covers."

Rökkurró self-release their new album in late 2014, on CD, Vinyl and Digitally. The album release will be preceded by the debut single The Backbone (released on 11 August 2014).

Rökkurró are playing Iceland Airwaves in November 2014, with more dates to be announced.

The empathy test in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is based on the premise that machines, no matter how advanced, lack compassion. But for childhood friends, Isaac Howlett (vocals) and Adam Relf (production), Empathy Test is all about wearing their hearts on their digital sleeves. With soaring synthetic chords, precision beats, and jubilant 80s melodies — all coated in soft, irresistible melancholy — the London-based duo takes inspiration as much from modern acts like CHVRCHES and Purity Ring, as it does from Vangelis and Depeche Mode. But, instead of sounding like a mere update of 80s’ electro, Empathy Test produce a mesmerizing and immersive identity which sets them apart from pretty much everything else currently on the scene. Shadows envelop hymns, a note sustains too long, a lyric confesses too much: It’s the heart of darkness, not compassion, that beats slow and steady.

While the lingering nighttime aesthetic that Relf conjures up provides the initial hook, Howlett’s vocal mastery pushes the stakes ever higher, providing the urgency and romanticism to Relf’s crystalline production. Swedish band Nervous Nellie return with new album "Where The Nightmare Gets In" later this year.

The album peeks inside the band’s nightmares and dreams and has been divided into three chapters, each one representing a certain brain state.

"Skeletons" is taken off the first chapter “Theta”, released September 8th 2014.

The track is produced by Henrik Jonzon & Nervous Nellie, mixed by Anders Hvenare.

Nervous Nellie will play at the Culture Collide festival in Los Angeles and San Francisco in October.
