Praise You: A Larry Heard Tribute Mix by Kai Alce

A Londoner through and through, Arthur Smith, more commonly known as Artwork, is a man who has been a key part of some of the capital’s pivotal music scenes in the last two decades. After a time producing techno under his Grain alias in the 90s, fore-fronting dubstep with Big Apple Records in the early noughties and forming Magnetic Man alongside Skream and Benga in 2007 – Artwork is now busy injecting his character into various parties, festivals and clubs around the globe.

As a longtime friend of the shop, we reached out to Arthur to see if he would be up for contributing a mix to close out 2021. For the occasion, Arthur went above and beyond and the result is a whopping one hour and forty-minute long recording packed with all kinds of rare disco, funk, boogie and house treasures.

We asked Dublin based @JimmyRouge to select his favourite summer tracks and the result was a lush two-hour long mix, which will make these early spring days feel like summer already. 

Jimmy is well-known for his DJ sets in the Dublin nightlife, but he's recently taken his musical career to new heights by founding his very own record label, Orange Tree Edits. The label has seen two EP releases so far, and both of them have already caused quite the buzz with support support from DJs like Hunee, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Session Victim and Peggy Gou.

Florian Kieffer will mit seiner „deep story“ dazu anregen den urbanen Dschungel zu verlassen und sich auf eine Reise ins Ungewisse zu begeben. Mit Wanderstock bewaffnet und einem ermunternden Lied auf den Lippen geht es raus in die Natur. Vergesst nicht, euch eine ordentliche Bemme einzupacken, frische Luft macht bekanntlich hungrig.

Wer etwas mehr Zeit und Entdeckungslust hat, dem würden wir in Deutschland das Elbsandsteingebirge oder den Schwarzwald empfehlen. Wenn es noch ein wenig weiter weg sein darf, dem wollen wir die Plitvicer Seen in Kroatien ans Herz legen.

Risky Mix 003 - Folamour goes R'n'B

I made this mix right after Navid passed last year.  It helped me get through the initial shock and pain to listen to all his music and be reminded that he was so talented and his music so unique and diverse. It was amazing to go back though it all and think about the memories of hearing it for the first time and sharing it with him. But then it got really hard to hear his voice, it just hurt too much...

The last few months I've come back to playing his music in my sets and feeling positive that he will live on forever through his music. A year on from his passing I feel like it's time to share this mix with the world. I hope it helps all of us remember Navid and celebrate his life...
