PART II: fourtwotwentytwenty

Torture the Artist celebrates its 5th anniversary with the release of 'fivefourtwentytwentyone', a compilation compiled and mixed by the webzine-founder himself, Holger Breuer, who gathered together 17 exclusive tracks from artists that either have a record or relationship with the online magazine. 'fivefourtwentytwentyone', a numerical and literal abreviation for '5 for TTA', musically varies between Deep House and Disco, it makes an excursion to melodic and more techno-ish takes, it contains edits of current Indie/ Alternative but also Pop-artists and provides its audience with unreleased material from and of scene-heavyweights. The result is an eclectic mix that delivers several approaches to (electronic) music carefully and skillfully put together in a continuous mix that represents Torture the Artist's philosophy, namely that of offering various (mainly melodical) styles of music to its listeners from renowned as well as talented and uprising artists.

'fivefourtwentytwentyone' is released in four parts containing four tracks while each track is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD exclusively via Torture the Artist' Soundcloud-channel. The download-link for the 17th and last track, is unlocked to those who solve a riddle as each of the previously released parts will provide you with a hint.

PART II: fourtwotwentytwenty
The second part of Torture the Artist's 5th anniversary compilation 'fivefourtwentytwenty' comes with tracks/ edits from Amplitudes, Daniel Bortz, Valiete and Santiago Garcia and  are summed up under the code 'fourtwotwentytwenty', meaning 4 days until 2020. Augsburg iconic artist Daniel Bortz, known for his releases on Permanent Vacation, TAU, Pastamusik or Exit Strategy, probably delivers the most timeless take of the compilation, namely 'Take My Hand'. And it does not get any deeper than that – a classic bass line, paradisiac chords and a vocal that takes the listener (back) to sweaty underground clubs of NY in the 90s. 'Take My Hand' is followed by Amplitudes' 'Cognitive Shift', the first track of the duo, consisting of Philipp Harms and Marc Wolf, ever. Just like Bortz Amplitudes follow a stringent deep sound scheme but turn their approach into a rather mental on-going jam that uses warm deep chords to shortly break with the melancholia before coming back to it their initially introduced idea. Noveau Frankfurter Valiete takes on one of the tracks of 2019, more precisely Valiete reworks Billie Eilish's track 'Bad Guy' into a rave monster with a dub/techno touch that smoothly balances the amount of hard-hitting whipping hi-hats and a catchy chord and vocal. Lastly it's Santiago Garcia who got his hands on Âme's 'Give Me Your Ghost' and delivers the anthem of the compilation. A mellow melodically construct combined with Jens Kuross' vocals divided into three acts almost resembles the build-up of a classical drama with Santiago being the author of this outstanding play that is now ready to be presented to the world.

We had no plan beyond escapism, but a cleared schedule gave us lots of time to explore new ideas. Cocoon Recordings has been founded in the year 2000 as a part of the Cocoon Music Event GmbH. Sven Väth has initiated Cocoon Recordings in order to complete the Cocoon platform as a supporting tool for young artists in Electronic Music. The label philosophy is as simple as demanding: helping young producers and DJs to release their music without depending on Major Label structures. The releases can mainly be assigned to the genres Techno and House.

Cocoon Recordings as a label and Sven Väth as an artist stand for the use of vinyl as sound carrier, also in the future. Admittedly, the Digital Division of Cocoon Recordings has also been set up in 2008 and the numbers of downloads are indeed enjoyable. However, the label's focus is on vinyl, now and in the future. In order to complete the range of services that Cocoon Recordings offers, the publishing company Cocoon Publishing was founded in 2010.
